How to Find Lost Homework in The Sims 4

Check all your tables, counters and other random surfaces

Let’s picture a situation real quick. Your Sims 4 character is sitting on a couch or bed, working on their homework. They finish the work before running off to do something else. You go to their inventory to do more homework, only to find that it has disappeared! This is a common occurrence that can be detrimental to your success if your student Sim isn’t performing well. If you’re interested in learning more, continue reading to discover how to find your lost homework in The Sims 4.

The most likely reason why your sim lost their homework is that they finished their work and dropped the book somewhere. Instead of placing it inside their inventory, they often drop it onto the floor or a nearby surface and walk away to perform other actions. With this in mind, you can look around your immediate surroundings to see if you can find the homework book on the ground or on a table.

What if you can’t find it, though? Are you doomed never to do your homework again? No! If you misplace your homework book and can’t find it anywhere, you can order a new one from any nearby bookcase or computer. Head into one of these, choose “ Purchase Books “, and pick “ Homework Books ” in the Show All dropdown menu. In the base game, you’ll find a Grade School and regular Homework book, while The Sims 4: Discover University introduces a University Homework book. Each book type costs one Simoleon, making them inexpensive to replace.

Oh no, your sim’s homework is not in their inventory! Here’s how to quickly fix the sims 4 missing homework glitch.

What to do if you lost homework in Sims 4?

There are really only two things you can do if your sim’s homework is lost: you can look for it by checking all the places missing homework usually ends up or you can buy new homework.

If you need more help than that, you’ll find it all in this post!

First, I’ll go over the best places to find lost homework then I’ll show you all the easy ways you buy new homework (university homework included!)

Places to Check for Sims 4 Missing Homework

The most obvious explanation is that it’s somewhere in or around your sim’s home.

Check all around your lot for the lost homework. Child sims love to stop doing their homework and leave it randomly in the middle of the floor!

If your sim was doing homework at a community lot , it’s likely they set it down and it’s somewhere around there.

If your sim tries to leave the community lot without bringing their homework, usually you’ll get a notification that it’s been returned to their inventory when your sim gets back home.

I know I already told you to look around your sim’s lot, but just in case you didn’t already, check any bookshelves around the house . It may have been put away in there.

And lastly, if your sim’s homework isn’t in their inventory, maybe it’s in someone else’s.

View the inventory of all the sims in your household to check that the lost homework wasn’t stolen!

How to Buy Homework in Sims 4

If you can’t find your sim’s homework notebook, there are 4 ways to buy new homework in Sims 4: bookshelf, computer, university kiosk, or build mode by unlocking hidden objects .

I’ll take you through how to buy new homework using each of these methods.

And in case you were worried, it doesn’t affect your sim’s homework completion level if they lose it and have to buy new. Your sim’s homework will still be listed as complete if they had completed it before it went missing!

To buy homework using a bookshelf, click ‘ purchase books ‘ and then select ‘ homework books ‘ from the drop-down categories.

This will allow you to buy all the possible homework types in Sims 4 including:

grade school homework
homework (high school)
university homework
soccer team playbook
teacher’s padfolio of student homework

Prices vary, but high school, university, and grade school homework is 1 simoleon.

Keep in mind that when you buy homework with the bookshelf, the new homework will be on the bookshelf.

After buying, you need to open the bookshelf and place it in your sim’s inventory.

To buy homework in sims 4 using the computer, you’ll follow almost exactly the same steps you did when buying with the bookshelf.

I have a mod in my game that makes the computer setup more organized, so my sim’s computer menu looks different. (You can find it at #32 on my list of must-have sims 4 mods !✨)

But all you have to do is find the ‘ purchase books ‘ option and then select ‘ homework books ‘ from the drop-down categories, just like you did with the bookshelf.

This time, the new homework will be put directly into your sim’s inventory!

If your sim is in college and lost their homework, you can buy new university homework at the kiosk located on campus in either Britechester or Foxbury.

Just find the kiosk and click ‘ buy university items ‘.

Then you’ll want to click on the book icon labeled ‘ academics ‘ to narrow the items down even further.

You can find the university homework by scrolling all the way down. Just buy it and it will appear in your sim’s inventory!

And finally, you can easily buy homework in build mode by unlocking all hidden objects using cheats.

If you don’t know how to do that, here’s my easy step-by-step guide on how to unlock hidden all items in build mode .

Once unlocked, search for homework in build mode and place it somewhere on your sim’s lot.

Then have your sim put it into their inventory by clicking on the homework or simply dragging it directly into their inventory!

In a previous post, we showed you what you can do to help your Sims complete their homework faster . But I recently came across a different homework-related issue that’s been bugging many users for quite some time.

Many players complained about their Sim’s homework suddenly disappearing from their inventory. Unfortunately, getting it back is not that obvious.

In this guide, we’ll explore why that happens and how you restore your Sim’s homework.

No, we’re not going to play Sherlock Holmes here.

Let’s dive right in!

Why is my Sim’s homework book missing?

Sims often drop their homework books on the floor. They rarely put their homework books in their inventories after doing their homework. As a result, they can’t find their notebooks when they get to class.

The quickest solution to find missing homework books in The Sims 4 is to look around the house or dorm.

If you’re lucky, you’ll quickly come across your Sim’s homework book and put it back in their inventory.

But sometimes, you won’t be able to find it.

Don’t be surprised if non-controlled roommates leave their homework books on the study table in the dorm.

What to do if you lose your homework book in The Sims 4

Buy new homework books.

You can buy grade school and university homework books for $1.

To buy a new homework book in The Sims 4, click on the bookcase or computer, select Order Books , and buy the homework book you want.

If you’re buying a new homework book for a child, have an adult purchase it. Then put the book on a table for the child to pick it up.

If you’re playing The Sims 4 Discover University and your Sim’s homework book is missing, you can buy a new one by clicking on the bookshelf.

If you’re on campus, you can go to the campus kiosk and purchase the homework you need.

Delete or sell your bookcases

Other users suggested that selling or deleting your current bookcases and buying new ones could solve the problem. Sometimes, your bookcases might get glitched.

This often happens when you move a Sim to a new household and bring their furniture and bookcases with them. Replacing the problematic bookcases should fix the problem.

Check other Sims’ inventories

Your Sim’s homework may have accidentally landed in the inventory of another Sim.

Many players confirmed they found their Sim’s homework in someone else’s inventory.

Where is my Sim’s homework in The Sims 4?

To find your Sim’s homework in Sims 4, click on their inventory. You should find a black-and-white homework book. Click on it to have your Sims complete the assignment.

Do Sims in The Sims 4 University do homework?

Sims attending university in The Sims 4 Discover University do homework regularly as part of their class assignments. Lazy Sims that refuse to do their homework will get bad grades and won’t earn a Distinguished Degree .

However, understanding how to do homework in The Sims 4 can be pretty tricky.

In this article, we’ll provide a detailed guide on how to do homework in Sims 4, and outline the benefits of performing the task.

Step-By-Step Guide to Doing Homework in The Sims 4

How you perform homework actually depends on which stage your Sim is in their education. Here’s a detailed guide for doing homework across all ages in Sims 4.

Children – How to Do Homework in The Sims 4

To get your child to do homework, follow these steps:

Send your child to school.
When they return home, select the child and check their inventory. There should be an orange book – this is their homework book.
Click on the book and select ‘do homework.’ The child will sit down and begin completing the task.
If needed, an adult Sim can assist with their child’s homework, which will speed the process up.

Make sure your character completes their homework before the next school day for optimum performance at school.

If you’re struggling to get your teen Sim to do homework in The Sims 4, follow these steps:

Send your teen to school.
When they return home, check their inventory. Your teenage Sims should have a blue book, which is their homework book.
Complete steps 3 and 4 as above.

Getting a teen Sim to do homework is largely the same as having a child Sim complete it. The only difference is that a teen Sim’s homework book will be blue, not orange.

University Student – How to Do Homework in The Sims 4

If you have the ‘Discover University’ expansion pack installed, here’s how you can get your Sim to do their homework:

Have your Sim go to class.
When they return, open the character’s inventory. There should be a homework book.
Click on the homework book to start the action. If your Sim takes multiple classes, you’ll have to choose which homework to do.
Repeat until all homework is done.

Sims who have enrolled at university will have much more homework than other Sims because they will attend multiple classes. It’s a good idea to get each piece of homework done before the next class, as this will lead to bigger XP rewards and better progress at university.

To speed up the time it takes for your character to complete their university homework, try leveling up their research and debate skills. This will reduce the time taken to complete homework considerably.

Why Is Doing Homework Important in The Sims 4?

You may be wondering why doing homework is so important in Sims 4. Well, it actually has a number of benefits.

By doing homework, your Sim will perform better at school, leading to better school grades. This will ultimately result in better job opportunities and higher wages. Additionally, you’ll be able to unlock several achievements by performing well at school.

In The Sims 2 , The Sims Stories , The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 , children and teens get homework on school days. Homework comes in the form of a school notebook, with differing covers depending on the student's life stage [ TS2 ] [ TS4 ] and the number of days that have passed. [ clarification needed ] [ TS2 ] Homework can be completed at a desk or on the floor, and will usually take a Sim hour to complete. Failing to complete homework generally results in bad grades. In The Sims 4: Discover University , students young adult and above are also given homework after each class.

The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories [ ]

In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories , children and teens will have homework in their hands after they get off the school bus. If possible, they will put the assignment on or by a desk, and seem to prefer the first desk that was placed in the house, even if it is in an illogical or inaccessible location. [n 1] If a student has unfinished homework, he or she will put the new homework on top of it. The player can tell the student to put the homework down by canceling the "Go to School" icon. Homework can be moved in buy and build modes, though it cannot be sold. A child's homework will be brightly colored, while a teen's homework will be plainly colored.

Clicking on the homework gives the child or teen an option to complete it or ask an older Sim for help. An older household member, when the homework is clicked, can offer help with finishing the homework. A child or teen who is being helped with homework will finish it faster, and will gain the memory of being taught to study . This will fulfill the "Ask for Homework Help" want , and will allow them to do homework more quickly in the future. If Seasons is installed, students will do homework faster in the fall , or after drinking apple juice .

Sims can do homework while seated at a desk or sitting down on the ground. There does not appear to be any difference in completion speed depending on how the Sim is seated. If Apartment Life is installed, Sims cannot do homework that is placed in an apartment 's communal area.

Sims will not usually get distracted while doing homework, unless their motives are low. They are more likely to get distracted if they are being helped by an older Sim. It is usually best to ensure that both the student and the mentor are in a good mood prior to beginning the interaction, and that no other interactions are in their queue until the homework has been completed.

There is no time limit on completing homework, but doing (or not doing) homework will affect a student's grades. A student who goes to school in a good mood with all homework done will gain a better grade. Students will not be penalized for going to school with one piece of incomplete homework, but going to school with more than one piece of incomplete homework may cause their grades to drop. [n 2]

Sims may have a want to do homework. This want will be fulfilled when they complete a piece of homework. This want will be fulfilled even if the homework they complete belongs to another Sim.

Young adults in college do not receive homework, but can optionally do assignments in order to improve their class performance.

If a teen has unfinished homework when he or she is sent to college or becomes an adult , it will disappear.

The Sims 3 [ ]

On school days, children and teens will come home with homework in their inventory . This is unlike The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories , where they would place the homework down. They can simply "Do Homework" on their own, "Do Homework With..." another friend of their age group, or "Get Help From" an older Sim on the lot. Sims can also do someone else's homework, or copy someone's homework if that person already did it, although this can cause after school detention. Sims may stop doing homework if they are hungry , tired, have the "Stressed" moodlet, or have a low bladder meter. Sims with bookworm and workaholic traits, as well as logic skill get homework done faster, and the library is a good place to study. The level of logic skill does not increase the rate of finishing homework; only one skill point in Logic is necessary. In Supernatural , vampires also do homework faster than normal Sims, and witches may magically finish it in a matter of seconds with a chance of being Singed . Homework is a hidden skill.

Students who skip homework or do not complete it on time will receive a bad mark in the Homework area of their school performance (This can be found in the 'School' section of the Simology panel) and may get detention. Students who complete their homework on time get a good mark in this section. However, homework can be finished while at school using the "Work on Late Homework" option. However, if the teacher catches them, they may get an after school detention. Good students grow up to be good adults, so it is important that young Sims maintain good grades. If a Sim has an A when they age up, the player will be able to choose his or her next trait. [n 3]

In Generations , children can bury their homework in the sandbox, but will receive a bad grade for doing so.

The Sims 4 [ ]

Once Sims become a child or teen on-screen, they will automatically receive a homework book appropriate for their life stage in their inventory, whether or not they have attended school in the past. Children will have a yellow book labeled "Grade School Homework" while teens will receive a blue book simply labeled "Homework". When a student receives a B or above from school, they will be given the option "Do Extra Credit" if they have finished the homework by clicking again on their individual homework books. If a student receives a D or below they can "Do Make Up Work" which works functionally the same as "Do Extra Credit". Children have the ability to receive help from adults. Unlike previous games, children who neglect their homework still have a fair shot at keeping their school performance high by completing other tasks such as maintaining certain moods or building skills. If a player's Sim misplaces a homework book or ages up to a child or teen off-screen, they can purchase a new homework book for §1 from a bookcase, or simply use another Sim's homework book. Unlike previous games, a homework book is not tied to a particular Sim.

If all four of a child Sim's skills ( creativity , mental , motor , social ) are at least level 3, "Do Homework" changes to "Breeze Through Homework", meaning the Sim is already skilled and can complete the homework more quickly. With all four skills at level 7, this changes again to "Dominate Homework," and the homework can be completed even more quickly. This speed boost is not available to teen Sims.

Homework is given to young adult sims and older in The Sims 4: Discover University . Students must complete homework before every class to achieve high grades. Although failure to do so may impact a sim’s performance at university, homework is not essential. Sims that miss their homework can make up for it by studying extra hours, or edit their term papers to be outstanding quality. However to get the highest grades, it is recommended that university students finish homework before each class.

Like with school homework, a new university homework book can be purchased from any bookcase or university kiosk. Homework of any type can be completed 50% faster on lots with the “Study Spot” lot trait .

↑ A mod on Mod The Sims remedies this issue by forcing Sims to place their homework at a player-defined location, rather than at random.
↑ Grades are adjusted according to the amount of incomplete homework remaining on the lot, and not whether the homework was actually completed. Thus, players can simply delete homework using the moveobjects cheat or have a pet destroy it, and Sims will not be penalized for it.
↑ If the School is deleted, then the player will get to choose their next trait if the Sim was in a Good Mood.

Homework in sim's inventory in The Sims 4

As your sim children and teens age up-they'll automatically receive homework in their inventories. Children receive yellow 'Grade School Homework' and teens receive blue 'Homework' books. The homework is individual to each sim, sims cannot do other sim's homework for them. If you lose the book around the neighbourhood, you can purchase another set of homework for your child through the 'buy books' menu on a bookcase or PC.

To do homework simply click on it in your inventory and select 'Do Homework'. The activity will take longer if your sim is in a bad mood. You can speed up the interaction if you get an adult sim to 'Help with Homework' by interacting with the sim whilst it is working. After completing the homework, you can interact with it again to complete 'Extra Credit Homework' for additional gain.

How To Improve Grades In The Sims 4

Doing Homework is an easy way of ensuring your child improves their grades. School works in a very similar way to sim careers in the fact that homework acts as an extra activity you can do to boost performance.

To boost performance, you can also ensure that your sim goes to school in a good mood with their needs all met and choosing the 'Work Hard' option on their icon picture whilst attending class. You can also raise a child's skills to increase performance. Skills include mental, motor, creativity and social.

Children can sometimes come home with a school project if you have The Sims 4: Parenthood installed. If this is the case, you'll receive a notification that they have received a project from school. Projects range from making volcano displays to castles and other dioramas. These are a good way of boosting your sim child's grade as well as boosting skill gain. The project will perform even better if you get a parent to help the child with the project. Projects can also be bought from the build and buy mode if you wish to help your child's grade along faster.

If the child's grade starts to fall, it will trigger an interaction where the principal will ring the child to discuss their failing grades. The child's grades will also suffer if they choose to skip school. This can be done by simply cancelling the interaction for them to go to school in the morning. They may also get a pop-up from a classmate asking them to skip school if you have The Sims 4: Parenthood installed.

There are a few different methods to find your sims lost homework which I’ll discuss below.

Check other households member’s inventory

The first place to look is in the inventories of other Sims in the household, sometimes another sim picks it up or a glitch causes it to land in their inventory.

If that’s the case you just need to drag it out of the other sims inventor and back into yours.

Check around your house or community lot.

Have a search around your house as sometimes it can be on a random table or just randomly places someone on the ground in your lot or even have been put back in a bookcase.

Where did your sim last do their homework, were they at a community lot? The game normal notifies you and put it back in your sims inventory if they forgot to pick it up. But the game could have glitched and left it there, so that’s always worth checking.

How do you buy homework in the sims 4.

The Sims 4 doesn’t have a dedicated homework object to buy, however, there are a few ways you can get your hands on some:

1) Use the cheat code: bb.showhiddenobjects and then go into buy mod and do a search and you should be able to buy it for $1

2) If your sims have a bookcase you can buy a new homework book like you would a regular book. ( If you purchase it through the bookcase thought it won’t be added straight to your inventor so will need to open the bookcase and add it to your inventor) .

2) You can also use a computer to purchase a homework book as well, by just clicking purchase books and then selecting homework books.

3) If you have a sim in college, another option for buying homework is to go to the kiosk located on either Foxbury or Britechester. ( All you have to do is click buy university items, academics and then scroll down to homework. Once purchased it will be added straight to your inventor)
