Preschool Letter B Worksheets & Activities

Hey there! I am quite excited about the new preschool series I am working on. Last week I started the Letter of the Week series with some Preschool Letter A Worksheets and Activities and the first set of my printables.
Today I have the preschool Letter B activities ready to go. This post includes a Letter B snack, Letter B books, a letter B craft, and a big printable Letter B activity pack with 17 pages of letter B activities for preschoolers. Come back weekly for each new letter!
My sweet little girl is anxious to be learning along with her older siblings. She always is asking for more school! I love teaching this age.

What’s Included in the Preschool Letter B Worksheet and Activities Pack?
The Printable Letter B Preschool Worksheet and Activity Pack includes cutting pages, letter puzzles, circle the letter B, writing/letter tracing pages, B dot pages, B mazes, and more! It includes activities for upper and lower case letter B.
Letter B Snack:
We like to keep our snacks healthier around here. Our Letter B snack are Banana Berry Boats. You may have had these with chocolate chips and marshmallows, but this one is made with almond butter, berries, and granola. It is amazingly delicious, too!

Slice a banana down the center and drizzle some almond butter in the center (melted peanut butter would be great, too). If you have nut allergies, you could even do it with sunflower butter. Then fill with some little berries like blueberries and raspberries. Sprinkle some granola on top and to sweeten it a bit a tiny drizzle of honey makes it perfect! This is a messy snack, so some forks may be required. And for little ones, you should probably give them each a half of a banana. We actually had this for breakfast one morning and it was a hit!
Butterfly Letter B Craft:
This is a simple and fun butterfly craft made from the letter B. We used one of the templates in the printable packet for the outline of our B then traced it onto black construction paper and glued it onto a white piece of paper with glue sticks . Then the center wings are filled with pieces of colored tissue paper .

A big important part of the preschool experience is story time! We love books around here and I wanted to share some of our favorite books that go well with a letter Be preschool theme.

15+ Free Letter B Worksheets: Easy Print!

Need some letter B worksheets for your kindergarten students or preschoolers?
The alphabet worksheets below are full of letter B activities, coloring pages, letter tracing, and more!
Your younger children will have so much fun as they learn letter identification of lower case b and uppercase B, the letter B sound, proper letter formation, and letter B words.
I always try to do things the fun way, so be prepared for hands-on activities! For best results, read through the notes I have on each sheet. They were all thoughtfully prepared and arranged to give your student the best experience as they learn the letters of the alphabet!

This giant letter B is surrounded by all kinds of images that your kindergarten kids will love to color!
Before they dive in, see if they can identify the name of the picture AND isolate the /b/ sound at the beginning of each word.
They should spot baby, ball, banana, balloons, butterfly, bug (or bee), bow, and bear.
If they are really sharp, they might also notice the b-b-bottle that the baby is drinking from.
Can they think of a color that starts with the /b/ sound to use while coloring this printable?

This simple worksheet is great way to introduce tracing upper case B and lower case b.
Have your student follow the numbers and dotted lines of the letter Bb. This will show your student the correct order to write the letters.
The uppercase letter B probably won’t be a problem, but kids sometimes want to make the lowercase letters with a “ball” first and then add the “stick.” The problem with that is their fine motor skills often struggle to have the ball and stick actually touch. The end result is often something that looks like an /l/ and an /o/…as opposed to a /b/.
So for best results, be gentle but diligent with your kid about tracing the lines in order.

This practice sheet will allow your child to start writing the letter b on their own!
The top of the page still has letters to guide them. They can quickly trace the letters for a quick confidence boost.
Consider sliding a blank copy of this into a plastic sheet protector. Use some dry-erase markers for a fun review in the future!

This is a great lowercase letter b worksheet. It’s hands-on, fun, crafty, and will help fight the issue of letter reversal that usually pops up.
Your child can color the letter and other items on the page.
Cut out the pieces and assemble their own butterfly on construction paper!
This printable letter b craft is perfect for displaying all week long.

This letter recognition worksheet is wonderful practice to help your student recognize the differences between capital letters B, P, and R.
Have your student use their do-a-dot marker (or any crayon, marker, or colored pencil) and dab all the capital /B/ letters among all the other uppercase letters.
Tell the child to go slowly in order to avoid making a simple mistake.

Here is a similar worksheet, but the focus is on lowercase letters.
Have your young readers find all the lowercase b letters and then color the baby and the ball.

This printable focuses on letter sounds.
Go through the images with your student and emphasize the beginning sound of each word.
For example, u-u-umbrella, b-b-button, b-b-bat.
See if you student can correctly color *only* the pictures that start with the /b/ sound.
They should identify button, bat, bell, banana, and bus.

There are a lot of fun words that start with /b/, so this should be an easy worksheet for your kid.
If they struggle to think of pictures to draw, give them a little help with some simple riddles.
I’m going to the library to get a…b-b-book!
I love to make sandcastles at the…b-b-beach!
If I get really muddy, my mom will make me take a…b-b-bath!

Alphabet books can be found in all of my letter worksheet packets.
They are a great keepsake to review in the future, but also a great tool for coloring, tracing, and cutting out all things letter b!
Give lots of time during the week to complete this activity. It is definitely too much for little hands to do in one sitting.

This worksheet gives your child another chance to practice letter tracing, writing letters, and writing words.

Consider taking some time to learn more about birds as you work through this letter of the week. Check out some library books and find some fun bird fact videos on YouTube!
You could also make a simple bird feeder with a pinecone. Just roll it in peanut butter and then birdseed. Hang it in a tree and bird-watch all week!

Letter tracing is an important skill that helps young children develop hand-eye coordination and motor skills, which will prepare them for future activities like coloring, drawing, and handwriting.
It also helps kids learn about the shape of each letter by repeating it over and over again while tracing on our simple black-and-white worksheets.
When you provide your preschoolers with opportunities to hone these skills, you’re helping to build a foundation of success as they progress to higher level literacy and reading concepts as they progress through the years
These no-prep alphabet printables are perfect any time of the year. Add them to your preschool themes as they are appropriate, or use them to focus on one letter at a time.

HOW TO USE THESE ALPHABET WORKSHEETS
If you’d like to use these pages as a one-time activity, print them on regular printer paper. Have your preschooler trace the image at the top of the page.
Then, have them trace the letters B and b at the bottom of the page. If desired, they can then color the picture.
If you’d like to make these pages reusable, print them on cardstock and laminate them for durability.
Then, complete the pages as described above except have kids use a dry erase marker to complete the pages.
As a fun alternative, you can have kids outline the images with wikki stix (wax covered yarn pieces that can be cut and bent to the shape of the image).

It takes a lot of fine motor skills to trace on the dotted lines. That’s why I only added 6 letters to each page of the capital letter B tracing pages.
If your child or student wants a little extra practice, I recommend tracing the letters with a highlighter first and then trace again with a pencil. That will give you double the amount of practice.

Letter Sounds Worksheets
In these free printable worksheets you are hunting for pictures that start with the corresponding letter B sound. When you find one that starts with the sound of the letter B, color it in.
With this practice sheet, you might need to sit with some children and stretch out the word with them so they can hear the beginning letter sounds. This worksheet might also be helpful for kindergarten students who need extra practice.

Large Letters with Dot Markers
You can use these free printable activities in a variety of ways to make learning fun. Refer to the list below. These educational activities will help strengthen fine motor skills. It will also help children become familiar with the formation of the letter.
Different Ways to Work with Large Letter B Worksheets:
- Stamp them with dot markers.
- Put small stickers on the dots.
- Place a mini eraser or button in each circle.
- Punch the circles with a hole puncher and turn it into a lacing card. Lace the ribbon up and down through the holes along the letter.
- Use it as a punching card. Give your child a thumbtack (They can do it!) Start at the top of the letter like you would if you were writing it and poke the thumbtack in the middle of each circle as you form the letter.
Creative Alphabet Activities
Alphabet activities don’t have to only be on paper! Try these different activities with your students for the entire alphabet:
- Write letters with your finger in shaving cream. It is a fun way to practice letter formation with a sensory experience.
- Try a game of alphabet basketball (using ping pong balls). Ball games are a great idea and so much fun for active children!
- Paper Plate Alphabet Crafts A to Z are fun crafts that are simple to make.
- Make and Explore Alphabet Constellations
- Alphabet Toilet Paper Tube Crafts from A to Z include letter B crafts.
- Write the letter B on the ceiling using a flashlight or laser pen.
- Draw the letter B with chalk on the driveway. Then, drive cars on it, hop along it, or spray water to erase it.
- B is for Brown Bear. Read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle.
15 Letter B Words
Here are 15 simple words that start with the letter B.
Play a quick game with younger children to see if they are hearing the beginning letter sound. Say, “Stand up (or give me a thumbs up) if you hear a word that starts with /b/. Sprinkle these words in with other words that do not start with B. Use this as in informal assessment to see who it is clicking for.

These free letter B worksheets actually include 2 Capital Letter B tracing pages for practicing the uppercase B on the dotted lines. Learning an upper case letter can be easy on this practice sheet.

20 Preschool-Level Activities to Teach the Letter “B”

The alphabet is 26 unique letters that make up millions of words in the English language. Preschool is the time where we begin learning and understanding these letters and how they can be used to create words and sentences for communicating our thoughts and emotions.
There are many ways to learn the alphabet besides writing and repetition. Learning new words can be creative, messy, competitive, and most importantly...FUN! So here are 20 of our favorite activities to teach your kiddos about the amazing letter "B".
1. "B" Word Collage
This letter B craft is simple to prepare, and super fun for your preschoolers. First, get some construction paper of different colors and help your kids trace the capital "B" in big, thick lettering. Next, help them cut out their "B" and glue them on different-colored paper. Lastly, help them think of simple words that start with "B" they can write inside the letter.

2. Mystery Bag of "B"s
One of our favorite ways of teaching vocabulary is through real-life items and recall. Get a paper bag and fill it with small items that start with the letter "B". You'd be surprised how many you have around your house or at your school: banana, ball, button, blueberry, bracelet. Add additional items that do not start with "B" and have your kids sort them accordingly.

3. The Bubble Bear
This bear craft is super simple and fun, using a basic outline of a bear on a piece of paper and a bottle of bubbles. Mix your bubble solution with some food coloring and let your preschoolers blow bubbles onto their paper coloring their cute little bear.

4. Letter "B" School Bus
This school-themed letter B activity requires some tracing and cutting skills, along with multi-colored paper, scissors, and a glue stick. Follow the instructions and show your kids how to cut and glue together their school bus using the capital letter "B".

5. Abstract Blue
This alphabet activity is covered in blue. Get a variety of blue paint shades, some white canvas papers, and let your preschoolers express their creativity and emotion through abstract painting. This style of painting is great for emotional release and the color/word association will make letter recognition easier in the future.

6. Berry and Banana Boats
This fun letter alphabet craft is a blast to make and even better to eat! With 3 "B"s what else do you need? Grab some berries, a banana, and whatever else you want to add and show your kiddos how to build their own "B" inspired fruit boat. This is a great activity right before snack time!

7. "B" is for Bumblebee
This fun craft uses a balloon to paint the awesome letter "B"! Cut out a capital "B" and place it on top of another sheet of paper, then use your inflated balloon as a brush to paint the letter shape yellow. You can use black finger paint, or black paper to cut out the bee wings and use pipe cleaners for the antennae, so cute!

8. Button Sorting
This hands-on motor skills sorting game uses colorful buttons to reinforce the exciting letter "B". Put all your buttons in a bowl and give your preschoolers a time limit to sort the buttons according to color! Extra points for the b lue b uttons.

9. Alphabet Bead Necklace
One of our favorite crafts for toddlers they can take home and reinforce what they have learned is homemade jewelry. You can find beads with letters on them at most craft stores and some other colored beads if you wish. Hand out the beads and string and let your preschoolers get creative with their alphabet necklaces!

10. Puzzle of "B"s
Building puzzles is an awesome time for kids to complete something and feel accomplished. This piece puzzle includes pictures of words that start with "B" on each piece reinforcing the words as your preschoolers put the puzzle together.
11. "B" is for Bat
This hands-on learning activity is super fun and the materials are easy to find and assemble. Each bat is made from a cylinder cardboard tube, some construction paper, and googly eyes. Use some black paper to cover your tube and cut out pieces for your bat wings.

12. Letter "B" Books
There are plenty of creative reading and coloring books out there that emphasize the letter "B". Books that tell stories of a brown bear, or a darling bird, or a giant buffalo, really any favorite book with "B" words. Use reading time as a way to refresh and recall the "B" vocabulary you have practiced before.

13. Tissue Paper Balloons
Preschool crafts are colorful and creative, which is why we love to incorporate them in our vocabulary lessons. This project uses colorful tissue paper to fill in a drawing of balloons. It's fun for kids to crumple the paper, glue it on, and see their masterpiece take shape.
14. Cotton Ball Bunny
This letter B craft practices lowercase letter b, by making an adorable fluffy pink bunny! Have your students trace and cut out the alphabet letter, then they can glue on ears, googly eyes, and cotton balls to complete their little bunny friend.

15. Painting with Bugs!
This letter B craft idea will have your preschoolers skin crawling! All you need is some plastic toy bugs, some kids' paint, and paper. Have your kiddos dip the bug legs into a blob of paint and see how they make little bug tracks on their paper.

Time to get your kids moving with this fun alphabet ball game! Get a ball and gather your students in a big circle. When someone is tossed the ball they need to say a word that starts with "B". If they take too long or cannot think of a word they are out of the game until the next round.

This arts and crafts activity is better suited for advanced children who can assemble multiple pieces to make a mini bicycle out of popsicle sticks. With a few easy-to-find materials and paint colors, your kids will create their own adorable little bicycles.

Time to make a mess with these creative and unique handprint butterflies. Grab some construction paper, washable paints, some colored pencils, and make your own one-of-a-kind butterfly shape.

19. Fun with Scrabble
Board games are a fun addition to the classroom, and scrabble is the best game to practice new vocabulary. Gather some kids around and give them their letters (each with at least 2 "B"s), encourage them to think of words using the letter "B" and see how many rounds they can go.

Tips for Teaching Letter S to Preschoolers & Kindergarteners
The letter B says /b/ as in: baby, bed , and boy . This /b/ sound is made as you send a quick burst of air through lightly closed lips.
B is a short sound letter, which means that it cannot be held out. (C,K, D, and G are other short sound words).
When you begin teaching letter B to preschoolers or kindergarteners practice is key.
Another thing to keep in mind for younger children, is visual letter confusion OR letter reversal . This confusion is very common as kids are learning their alphabet, but with a little bit of practice, can easily be straightened out. The letter b is typically confused with the letter d. (Try different strategies for learning letters and sounds to help with these common mixups.)

This letter B formation worksheet focuses on teaching the kids the proper way to write their letter B. We recommend using the highlight marker to trace the large guided B and crayons (or pencils) to work on smaller B’s. This is a great sheet to give the kids as homework.

This letter b worksheet is perfect for preschool. It’s stress-free and all that it’s required from kids is to color in the images. Advantages of Learning the Letter Names
Children who know the names of the letters have three major advantages:
- Kids who know letter names will learn the sounds of the letters much more easily. By contrast, children who don’t know the letter names often have tremendous difficulty in learning the sounds of the letters . 1
- Children who can easily name the letters of the alphabet have an easier time learning to read. 2, 3
- As they learn the letter names, children tend to be more motivated to discover more about the letters and about the words around them. Letter B Worksheets..
Should Uppercase or Lowercase Letters Be Taught First?
Developmentally, it will be easier for your child to learn capital letters first. That’s because the visual form of the capital letters is more distinct. Take a look at this row of capital letters :
A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z
The only letters that could be flipped and mistaken for another letter are M/W.
Now take a look at this row of lowercase letters :
a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z
With the lowercase letters , there are several pairs of letters that could be flipped.
- b/d (flip on the vertical axis)
- b/p (flip on the horizontal axis)
- d/p (flip on the horizontal and vertical axis)
- p/q (flip on the vertical axis)
- n/u (flip on the horizontal and vertical axis)
So that’s why I recommend starting with the “easier” uppercase letters .
