Why should you use Google Sheets templates for business?

Google Sheets templates are valuable business tools that can be used by teams of any size. Whether you’re a business just starting out or an established enterprise firm, using Google Sheets templates gives you access to countless benefits.

Even if not used as a primary business tool, they can serve to supplement other tools. For instance, you might use a free CRM to track customer information, then use a Google Sheets invoice template to quickly create invoices for each customer.

Let’s go over the top benefits of using Google Sheets templates for business.

Google Sheets templates are free to use.

Google Sheets templates are completely free to use, and they cover a wide variety of needs. You won’t have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars getting an Excel subscription (or a subscription for another tool).

Everyone who signs up for a Google Workspace account will have immediate working access to these templates.

You have the ability to collaborate.

Google Sheets templates allow your team to collaborate with little gatekeeping. The only thing you have to do is click the “Share” button at the top right-hand corner of a document, and your team members will have access to the file.

You can also limit the collaboration aspect to commenting or viewing only. This is a great option for sensitive documents that only a few people should edit.

Google Sheets templates are intuitive to use.

Using a Google Sheets template doesn’t require much experience with spreadsheets. You don’t need to know advanced formulas and functions to make them work for you.

All you have to do is plug in the numbers and populate the fields. The document will generate a report or calculate a total based on the built-in fields.

Google Sheets templates are customizable.

Using a Google Sheets template doesn’t mean that you’re stuck with its look and feel. You can easily change the fields, the colors, and the fonts using Google Sheets’ built-in tools. This gives you the ability to make your sheets have a brand-specific look and feel.

There’s no data loss.

Another great benefit of using Google Sheets templates? Unless a freak accident happens with Google’s servers, it’s near impossible to lose data.

All changes are stored in the cloud, and Google Sheets includes a version history of the document. You can always revert to a previous version if something happens.

If your laptop crashes or you lose an internet connection, Google Sheets simply freezes the copy until you’re online again. You’ll still want to take a few precautions, such as enabling offline editing and downloading a copy of the document to your local drive.

Ready to find a few templates that you can start using right now for your business? There are two common ways you can find and use free Google Sheets templates.

1. Google’s In-Built Template Gallery

On your browser, go to Google Sheets . Click “Template Gallery” at the top right. Explore the templates to find the right one for you.

  • Open an existing Google sheet, or type “ sheets.new ” to create a new one.
  • On the top left menu, go to "Extensions," then “Add-ons,” then "Get add-ons."

21 free Google Sheets templates to boost productivity [2024]

A hero image for Google Sheets app tips with the Google Sheets logo on a green background

In this blog post, I'll share 21 ready-to-use Google Sheets templates made by yours truly and walk you through how they can bring efficiency to your projects.

Is a Google Sheets template right for you?

First, ask yourself what you're trying to achieve. While the below templates offer convenience and efficiency for various tasks, there are scenarios where dedicated software might be a better fit. Here's how to determine what's right for you.

Use a Google Sheets template if:

You need a quick, straightforward solution for tasks like budget tracking or simple project planning.

Basic, pre-designed formats and structures suit your needs without much alteration.

You want to collaborate without a headache. If you're the type who loves group projects, Google Sheets lets you collaborate without wanting to pull your hair out.

You're looking for a free or cost-effective tool that integrates well with other Google apps.

Consider dedicated software if:

Your tasks require complex, specialized functionalities that a basic spreadsheet looks at with wide-eyed terror.

You need software customized to your unique needs, like a made-to-order burrito—add what you want, leave out what you don't, guac costs extra.

Advanced data analysis, with sophisticated reporting and forecasting tools, is a necessity.

You require robust integration capabilities with a wider range of applications beyond the Google ecosystem.

Evaluating your specific needs against these points can tip the scale between Google Sheets templates and dedicated software. It's like deciding between staying in pajamas all day or putting on your fanciest evening outfit. (Mine also happens to be pajamas.) Both have their charm, but it really depends on what kind of day you're planning.

If you think a specialized tool might be more your speed, check out the following app roundups that do a lot of the same things these templates do, and more:

21 free Google Sheets templates

The following Google Sheets templates let you hit the ground running, so you can focus on the important stuff, like taking credit for these beautiful spreadsheets.

1. Expense report template

Screenshot of Zapier’s expense report Google Sheets template

An expense report template helps track and organize expenses incurred by employees or departments. It simplifies the process of managing expenditures by providing structured fields for items like date, category, and amount spent, supporting easy recording and analysis. Perfect for when you need to justify that "business lunch" that was really just you eating a sandwich while hovering over the break room sink.

2. Cash flow template

Screenshot of Zapier’s cash flow Google Sheets template

A cash flow spreadsheet helps you stay on top of your business's income and expenses. This template makes it easy to track your cash flow over time, so you can spot trends, anticipate shortfalls, and make data-driven decisions.

3. Invoice template

Screenshot of Zapier’s invoice Google Sheets template

Use Google Sheets to create and manage client invoices for services rendered or products sold. This template tracks details like customer information, itemized charges, payment terms, and outstanding balances. You can even connect it to Zapier to automate your invoicing process .

4. Balance sheet template

Screenshot of Zapier’s balance sheet Google Sheets template

A balance sheet template provides a snapshot of your business's financial health. It shows what you own (assets), what you owe (liabilities), and your net worth (equity) at a given point in time.

It's a useful tool for managing your company's funds and ensuring you have enough cash on hand to cover expenses. It also helps determine if business is booming or if you should start selling office furniture.

5. Profit and loss statement template

Screenshot of Zapier’s profit and loss Google Sheets template

A profit and loss statement, or P&L, is one of the most important spreadsheets for any business because it shows whether you're making or losing money. It's like a business's report card, revealing whether you're top of the class or the kid who eats paste in the back.

This Google Sheets P&L template makes it easy to track your revenue, costs, and profits over a period of time. Simply plug in your income sources and expenses, and the spreadsheet automatically calculates your net profit.

 6. Small business budget template

Screenshot of Zapier’s small business budget Google Sheets template

When it comes to budgets, most mere mortals would rather read the entire tax code than create one from scratch, which is why I'm repurposing one from Zapier's small business budget templates .

This template makes it simple to track all of your budgets and projections, forecasting your revenue and expenses for the fiscal year.

Staying on budget is key to the success of any small business. It's the financial tightrope you walk, juggling hopes, dreams, and the harsh reality of how much printer ink actually costs. This free Google Sheets template gives you an easy way to monitor your financial performance and make data-driven decisions.

7. Payroll template

Screenshot of Zapier’s payroll Google Sheets template

A Google Sheets payroll template provides an easy, low-cost solution to handle employee compensation for small businesses that don't outsource payroll or use specialized software.

The template has areas to track hours worked, pay rates, and formulas to automatically calculate gross and net pay for each employee based on their hourly rates and deductions.

At the end of each pay period, you can use automation to generate payslips to send to your staff along with their direct deposits or checks. Keeping good records of all payments and deductions will make managing tax season much easier.

8. Project plan template

Screenshot of Zapier’s project plan Google Sheets template

This project plan Google Sheets template helps you map out all the steps required to complete a project. Break down your project into actionable tasks, assign deadlines, and allocate resources, so you have a clear roadmap to get the work done.

With a comprehensive project plan in place, you'll have confidence that no detail will slip through the cracks.

9. OKR template

Screenshot of Zapier’s OKR Google Sheets template

Let's face it: coming up with objectives and key results (OKR) is rough enough without having to build your own template to track them. Luckily, some kind soul has done the work for you. (It's me—I'm the kind soul.)

This template lets you define your OKRs, set deadlines, note progress, and see how you stack up against key milestones at a glance. All you need to do is plug in your goals, add some metrics to measure success, and you've got yourself an accountability mechanism. What more could an aspiring overachiever ask for?

Not only will you have a roadmap to keep your team on track, but you'll also get to unleash your inner control freak. Win-win.

10. Project management template

Screenshot of Zapier’s project management Google Sheets template

A project management spreadsheet is clutch for keeping tasks, timelines, and team members organized. This Google Sheets template gives you a pre-built sheet with sections for tasks, owners, start/end dates, durations, and notes. Fill in the details for your project, assigning tasks to the appropriate team members and setting realistic timelines.

A good project management spreadsheet predicts how the chaos of your projects might settle into success, showing who's doing what, which balls are in the air, and when they might land.

11. Gantt chart template

Screenshot of Zapier’s Gantt chart Google Sheets template

A Gantt chart template helps you visually lay out project timelines and schedules. Using horizontal bars, it breaks down task durations, dependencies, and critical paths. It helps manage project schedules, identify bottlenecks, and communicate progress effectively.

To get started, list your project tasks in the first column. In the next column, estimate how long each task will take. See at a glance which tasks overlap or depend on others finishing first. It's like a timeline wearing a party hat.

12. Inventory template

Screenshot of Zapier’s inventory Google Sheets template

I originally created this inventory template a few years ago because I needed a simple solution to track my small business's stock. Its simplicity means it can fit a variety of inventory tracking needs. Use it to keep tabs on office supplies, company-owned equipment, or your vintage muscle car collection. (Ok, Jay Leno.)

Track all your items and their location, quantity, value, and comments (in case you want to record that dent in your '67 Mustang's fender). Formulas calculate totals automatically, so you can stop struggling with the calculator app on your phone. You can even integrate this template with Zapier to automatically pull in up-to-date product inventory details.

13. Event budget template

Screenshot of Zapier’s event budget Google Sheets template

An event budget spreadsheet provides an easy way to track your event income, expenses, sponsors, and more. Simply plug in your numbers, and the spreadsheet will automatically calculate totals, so you always know where you stand financially.

Whether planning a conference, fundraiser, or company event, this free template puts you in control of your budget and ensures no cost is left unaccounted for. You'll be able to throw the party of the year without dreading the financial aftermath. Let the spreadsheet do the math while you focus on more important things, like showcasing those sweet Macarena moves.

14. Project timeline template

Screenshot of Zapier’s project timeline Google Sheets template

A timeline template is a visual way to represent and track events or tasks over time. It's a handy feature for project management, historical timelines, and even personal scheduling.

You can create a timeline in Google Sheets by selecting the data range that contains your dates and tasks and then clicking Insert > Timeline .

15. Sales dashboard template

Screenshot of Zapier’s sales dashboard Google Sheets template

A sales dashboard gives you an at-a-glance view of your sales metrics and KPIs, so you can check progress and spot trends. You'll want to customize it to show the numbers that matter most to your company.

Keep it simple by focusing on essentials like:

Total sales volume

Sales growth

Average deal size

Share the file with your sales team, so everyone's on the same page about progress and priorities. Schedule time each week to review the dashboard together and determine ways to boost numbers or address issues.

With a few clicks, this template transforms into a dashboard tailored to track your sales team's progress so you can whip them into shape. Or gently encourage them with pizza.

16. Social media calendar template

Screenshot of Zapier’s social media calendar Google Sheets template

This social media calendar template helps take the guesswork out of your social strategy so you can focus on creating content your audience will love. With all your social posts mapped out in one place, it's hard to double-book content or miss an opportunity to post. Using a Google Sheets social media calendar keeps your online presence organized and consistent.

17. Content calendar template

Screenshot of Zapier’s content calendar Google Sheets template

If there's one thing marketers love, it's convincing you that your life is a desolate wasteland without their latest product. Coming in a close second is content calendars.

A content calendar template offers a structured framework for planning and organizing all content-related activities, including blog posts, videos, email newsletters, and more. Typically, it includes fields for content topics, responsible parties, deadlines, and publishing channels.

By effectively tracking your publication schedule, a content calendar template ensures consistent and timely content delivery, contributing to a more successful content marketing strategy.

18. Timesheet template

Screenshot of Zapier’s timesheet Google Sheets template

This timesheet spreadsheet lets you log your hours and tasks for each day of the week, keeping a running total, so you always know where you stand—no more guesswork or scrambling to remember what you did three days ago. Just plug in your hours as you go for a clear picture of your time usage and maximum time management .

 19. Time-blocking template

Screenshot of Zapier’s time-blocking Google Sheets template

A time-blocking template helps you visualize how you spend your time each day, so you can optimize your schedule. This template breaks down your day into 15-minute increments, with columns for each day of the week.

If used properly, this template can transform you into a productivity pro . But also remember that no spreadsheet can replace listening to your body and honoring your own humanity. Take a walk sometimes. Call your mom. Scream into a pillow. Your time-blocking sheet will be there when you get back.

20. To-do list template

Screenshot of Zapier’s to-do list Google Sheets template

A Google Sheets to-do list template is a simple yet effective way to organize your day. It can help you gain clarity, focus your efforts, and achieve more.

You can customize the template by adding or removing columns to suit your needs. For example, you may want columns for:

Priority: Assign a priority level like high, medium, or low

Due date: Add the target completion date for the task

Subtasks: Break down larger tasks into smaller steps

Status: Update the status to not started, in progress, or completed

Keep your list up-to-date, and be sure to regularly review priorities to maintain an efficient workflow . Before you know it, you'll be on top of your to-do list and have a squeaky clean slate. Easier than dealing with all those crumpled Post-it notes, no?

21. Habit tracker template

Screenshot of Zapier’s habit tracker Google Sheets template

A habit tracker keeps you accountable and helps you build better habits. This Google Sheets template is so shiny and full of promise, like that gym membership I enthusiastically signed up for and then used exactly once so I could take a shower when my plumbing was out.

Simply list the habits you want to track down the left column. Each day you complete a habit, check off the corresponding box. At the end of the month, you'll have a visual record of your progress.

The great thing about digital habit trackers is you can tweak them as needed. Maybe you want to track habits over a year to get the bigger picture. You might add columns for rewards or accountability partners. Get creative—the point is to make this template work for you so you'll actually stick with it.

Tips for creating your own Google Sheets template

Google Sheets is a powerful tool, but that power means nothing if you can't figure out how to harness it for your specific needs. Herepe are a few simple tips for building templates in Google Sheets that you can use again and again.

Understand your data: Before you can build an effective template, you need to understand what kind of data you're working with. Are you tracking expenses, managing a project, or something else?

Keep it simple: Once you determine the purpose, think about the most essential information. Keep your template simple by only including crucial details. You can always add more later, but start with the basics. If you want to show off your spreadsheet skills, start a YouTube channel.

Utilize advanced features for enhanced functionality: Once you have the basics down, utilize some of Sheets' advanced features to make your template even more powerful.

Formulas can calculate sums, averages, percentages, or whatever metrics you need. With a simple =SUM() or =VLOOKUP() , your template will instantly become more dynamic.

Conditional formatting allows you to apply custom styles automatically based on cell values. Use it to highlight numbers over a certain value, color-code categories, or flag outliers.

Add-ons are mini-apps that extend the functionality of Google Sheets. There are add-ons for project management, billing, inventory management, and more. The right add-on can turn a basic template into a robust tool.

Collaborate with team members: One of the best parts of Google Sheets is its ability to collaborate with others. Give teammates access to your template and work together in real time. Take advantage of features like comments, chat, and revision history to keep everyone on the same page, literally.

Integrate Sheets with other Google tools: As part of the Google ecosystem, Sheets plays well with other Google Workspace apps. For example, you can create a chart from data in a Gmail message, embed Google Sheets directly into Google Docs, use Google Forms to collect data that is then automatically populated in a Google Sheet, or use Google Apps Script to automate tasks in Google Sheets.

Google Docs Business Plan Template

google docs business plan template

Whether you’re a seasoned business owner or just starting your entrepreneurial journey, a Google doc business plan template offers a valuable resource to help you organize your ideas, refine your strategies, and present a compelling roadmap for your business. In this article, we’ll explore the features and benefits of a business plan template using Google docs and how it can enhance your business planning process.

Following a step-by-step business plan creates an all-in-one solution for small business owners and entrepreneurs. And, by using a pre-designed framework, you can craft your business plan to focus on the “why” behind your business and the steps you’ve already taken to make your business a true success. In the following, we’ll show you exactly how to create your compelling plan. Let’s get started:

Google Doc Business Plan

Executive summary.

The first few pages of your business plan contain the executive summary. It highlights the key points, findings and recommendations inside your business plan google docs template. Why create a summary when the business plan holds all the details? We’re glad you asked. The executive summary allows busy executives to quickly grasp the main ideas and make informed decisions about your business concepts and plans. It serves as a snapshot of the document, capturing its essence and presenting it in a clear and concise manner. By providing an executive summary, you’re allowing decision-makers to first discover a “teaser” bit about your business, and then become more intrigued as the full plan is unveiled.

Company Overview

The next portion of your free business plan template google docs is composed of a full company overview. You’ll establish facts, explain the company history, outline the services or products to be offered, and detail the milestones you’ve already achieved to get your business started. This is the “big-picture” story and it’s integral to your plan, as it contains the “why” behind your business. You’ll want to provide details in this portion of the business plan, such as descriptions of your products or services, a brief description of your management team, the issues or problems that brought you to the place of finding the best solutions, and other factors that are singular to your business and your vision for the future. You’ll also include any partnerships, you’ll detail innovative products or ideas, and you’ll emphasize that your goal is to drive positive change.

Industry Analysis

The next section of your business plan, the industry analysis, reveals crucial insights into the current state and future prospects of your industry sector. An industry analysis requires market research to help show market trends, competitors, customer preferences and regulatory influences. The analysis within your business plan also provides a solid depth of understanding regarding the dynamics of the industry and it helps identify growth potential, possible risks, and key challenges that may be ahead. And, finally, after reviewing the results of the analysis, a business leader repositions plans as needed and makes informed choices to move ahead with clarity.

Customer Analysis

In the customer analysis section of the business plan, the vital component of your business strategy is revealed: valuable insights into the behavior, preferences, and needs of customers are detailed. And, with that reveal, a deeper understanding of the target market is gained, enabling your business to better tailor products, services and your initial marketing efforts accordingly. Gathering and analyzing data offers a sneak peek at the purchasing choices of consumers, and with that snippet of knowledge, you’ll be able to better meet that need, solve that pain, or serve that drive for satisfaction. Whether your target market analysis is extensive or defined, you’ll want to include all of the information gleaned from it in the business plan template google docs for optimal results.

Competitive Analysis

With the industry and customer analyses section of the business plan template complete; it’s the right time to examine the competitive analysis, as well. A data-driven study of competitors is a critical component of any business strategy, as it provides valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of key competitors operating in the same market. By evaluating and understanding the competitive landscape, businesses can identify opportunities for differentiation to gain that much-desired competitive edge. Your competitive analysis should reveal everything available about your competitors, including their brand reputation, customer loyalty, distribution channels and the financial resources they hold. Because your goal is to capitalize on market opportunities, you’ll want to understand the environment of every competitor your company may have.

Your marketing plan will outline the goals and tactics to promote your product or service in the most effective marketing strategy possible. And, tailoring marketing efforts to meet the parameters of the data and industry findings guarantees a better result in the marketing strategies utilized. In short, your marketing strategy will encompass various elements such as branding, advertising, digital marketing, public relations, and social media to create a cohesive and impactful marketing campaign. The ultimate objective of marketing plans is to achieve your desired business outcomes. As it should.

Operations Plan

The operations plan outlines the specific actions and strategies required to achieve the goals and objectives of the business. It provides a roadmap for how the business will carry out its daily operations, deliver products or services, and meet customer demands. It typically includes several key components; operational goals and objectives, desired outcomes, and performance metrics. This helps align the activities of different departments or teams with the broader organizational objectives. Processes and procedures are the highlights of the operations plan, along with the timelines and scheduling of implementing those objectives. Knowing how your business will actually conduct business is the perfect starting place for your success.

Management Team

Comprised of experienced professionals, the management team brings together a shared commitment to excellence. They will understand the collaboration and strong leadership skills needed to effectively manage the entire team, and they will be guided by a customer-centric approach. A brief sketch of the management leaders and their relevant professional backgrounds completes this section of the business plan.

Financial Plan

The financial plan completes the final section of the business plan template. It is a summary of the financial goals, along with the strategies and actions needed to achieve them. It also outlines key aspects, such as budgeting, savings, investment plans, and debt management that can adapt to changing circumstances and maximize financial stability and growth. Ultimately, the financial plan serves as a roadmap for informed decision-making and long-term financial success. Important financial projections such as a balance sheet and a cash flow statement can be made using google sheets

A well-written plan that’s no paper stack collecting dust on your desk, but a business document that helps strategize business growth and secure funds.

Although it’s no easy feat—using a Google Docs template can make things a lot easier.

A professional business plan template can help you refine your strategies, organize ideas, and outline the structure of your plan through step-by-step instructions.

In this article, we’ll discuss the top 5 free business plan templates available in Google Docs, their features, benefits, and how you can use them to simplify your business planning process.

Ready to get started? Let’s dive right in.

Understanding Business Plan Templates

As you already know—your business plan is a document that summarizes your business objectives and outlines strategies or plans to achieve them.

In contrast, a business plan template is a format that helps entrepreneurs prepare a structural outline while drafting a perfect business plan.

It’s not that you can’t create a plan without using a business plan template.

However, having a well-structured template can help you develop a detailed and visually appealing plan and make sure you won’t miss out on any critical information.

Let’s quickly overview the key components of a business plan template:

Key components of a business plan template

While there could be multiple types of business plans, the standard outline is almost similar for business plans across industries. The following are the key components of a business plan template.

Executive Summary:

Company overview:, market analysis:, products and services:, sales and marketing strategies:, operations plan:, management team:, financial plan:.

That’s pretty much it about the components of a business plan template. Let’s move ahead and discuss the top #5 Google Docs templates for business planning.

Download Top Business Plan Templates in Google Docs

Considering different business plan types, multiple templates are available in Google Docs, but do you know which one you need?

Well done if you do, and don’t worry if you don’t.

The following are the top Google Docs business plan templates you can download for free. While we will share access to them, we’ll also discuss which will suit your requirements the best.

So let’s cut to the chase.

Template #1: Startup Business Plan Template

As its name suggests, a startup business plan template is specifically designed to meet the specific needs of new startups.

This ultimate template can help new-age entrepreneurs predict challenges, achieve their business objectives and goals, understand business financials, and revise strategies—in short, it is a roadmap for them to get started.

The primary objective of a startup business plan is to put forth the steps to get a business up and running.

A startup business plan template emphasizes providing detailed information about the startup, its product or service offerings, a thorough industry, market, SWOT, and competitive analysis, marketing strategies, management team, operational plan, and financial projections.

Best for : New entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking investment or bank loans.

Template #2: Lean Business Plan Template

Consider a lean business plan template as a condensed version of a traditional one—that’s the best way to put it. It’s a shorter version of a business plan highlighting and summarizing all its sections.

A lean business plan primarily focuses on critical elements, including strategies, tactics, metrics, and finances.

Since it’s comparatively shorter, drafting a lean business plan is easier, quicker, and efficient compared to a traditional plan. It’s flexible enough to update and revise, providing sufficient room for improvisation.

It consists of short texts and mainly represents relevant information using bullet points.

While a lean business plan template is for businesses uncertain about the business planning process, it’s ideal for everyone to use a lean business plan template to create the first draft of their business plan—and then move ahead with creating a detailed one.

Best for: Businesses in fast-changing industries, startups with limited resources, sole proprietors, and internal planning.

Template #3: One Page Business Plan Template

A one-page business is a condensed, simplified, and one-page version of a standard business plan. Consider this as an outline of a lean business plan.

(that we discussed earlier)

A one-page plan is often used to present a quick overview of your business to your employees, partners, and vendors and as a summary to banks and investors.

It’s just a one-page plan, so it doesn’t mean it’s only for a specific group of people or businesses—no.

In fact, a one-page plan can be a viable option in multiple scenarios. It can be used by idea-stage businesses, startups & pre-revenue businesses, and businesses planning to expand for various purposes.

If you need a plan for internal use or don’t intend to share lots of details while sharing with outside vendors—a one-page business plan will do.

However, companies seeking outside investment or bank loans must prepare a detailed business plan—there’s no other way around.

Best for : Idea stage startups, side-hustlers, solopreneurs, micro-businesses, and business idea testing.

Similar to a traditional business plan, the key elements of a small business plan template include an executive summary, company overview, products and services, sales and marketing strategy, operations plan, management team, and financial projections.

Best for : Small business owners seeking funding or bank loans.

6 Google Sheets templates your business needs in 2024

google sheet business plan template

Making sure your company grows to its biggest possible potential is a challenging task. Luckily, there are many useful tools available for us to incorporate into our business workflow. The ever-growing technology allows us to manage huge amounts of data with just the click of a button. But, let’s be honest, sometimes it can get very overwhelming to face these massive amounts of information. Let alone report from them.

This is why we set out a handful of templates below, that will help you in not only registering your data but also closely monitoring it on a relevant and customizable dashboard. Take a look at these Google Sheets templates and find exactly what you need to boost your business just that extra bit more!

Why use Google Sheets templates

The greatest and most widely available tool for data manipulation is Google Sheets. Compared to other spreadsheet softwares it is one of the best options. Unlike other programs, Google Sheets is free, cloud-based, multi-user friendly, and — because it’s part of G Suite — integrates nicely with other Google products like Gmail.

However, Google Sheets alone isn’t enough to keep up with the fast-paced business world. To do that, you need more than just a spreadsheet; you need a spreadsheet with superpowers.

Spreadsheets with superpowers

For Google Sheets, templates are as close as you can get to super-powered spreadsheets. They’re basically prebuilt spreadsheets designed to do specific tasks. Templates combine formatting and functions to make spreadsheets perform in a certain way. That saves you from having to build something yourself.

Another reason templates are great is, it provides the structure for growth. When tracking your business processes, it’s hard to know where to start. All of the templates in our list give you the framework to get a hold of your business and develop with it. Over time you can adjust, add to, or improve upon the functions of the templates in this list to suit your business as it achieves growth.

Below is our list of the top 6 Google Sheets templates your business needs and how they can take your business from just keeping up to supercharged. Want to get started straight away? Click here to browse all of Sheetgo’s automated templates.

1. Automated income statement template

Income statements are indispensable for your business. This is the sheet that tells you if you’re profitable or not. Also known as the profit-and-loss statement, the income statement compares expenses and revenue over a certain period of time, usually monthly. It takes money-in and money-out and shows the net earning of your business. It’s important to keep an eye on your total income while you track more nuanced expenses like interest, taxes, and uncategorized expenses.

This Income statement template lets you register your income and expenses, and does the calculations for you. Avoid wasting time crunching numbers and get back to the things you love about your business. No more errors in your numbers. No more running it twice, just in case you missed something. This template takes the mathwork out of keeping track of your company’s profitability. You no longer have to spend long nights with your nose in a pile of receipts. Record all of your expenses and revenue, or upload them as a CSV file, and you’re done. It’s as simple as that.

4. company okrs template.

OKRs (Objective and Key Results) are a great way to promote goals for your teams or employees. Over the past five years, teams have begun to adopt quarterly, monthly, or even weekly OKRs. To see how your teams are performing, you need a sturdy tracking system in place. If you don’t have the time to build an OKR tracking system, your teams might be stuck reporting for no reason. Decentralized OKR reporting across your organization means the insentive to set and achieve goals diminishes.

Use this Company OKRs template to take advantage of a detail-oriented OKR tracking system without wasting time on building it yourself. Each of your team members reports on their OKRs. That data is then synced to a master sheet where you or your team leads can get a better picture. Making it easier for you to adjust and pivot for underperforming areas or to push over-performing departments even further.

How to Create an Annual Plan

Create an annual plan by first reviewing the previous year’s wins and losses to determine where to focus the upcoming year’s efforts. Brainstorm annual goals, list the actions to achieve them, and assign the action steps to team members.

Start drafting an annual plan in Q4 to prepare for the upcoming year. Follow the steps below to create an effective annual plan that drives revenue and growth to any business.

  • Review the Previous Year Meet with stakeholders and review the previous year’s plan and successes. Identify areas that need improvement. This review process will help determine where to focus efforts next year. You can skip this step if it’s the company’s first time creating an annual plan.
  • Download an Annual Plan Template Download the simple annual plan template. Using a template will help ensure you don’t miss any vital sections of the plan.
  • Enter the Company’s Vision Statement The vision statement describes the company’s long-term aspirations, so keep it at the forefront of the decision-making and goal-setting processes.
  • Brainstorm Annual Goals Collaborate with stakeholders and determine what you want to achieve in the upcoming year. Use last year’s wins and losses to set realistic goals that align with the company’s vision statement.
  • List Objectives List the action steps required to meet the goals. Categorize them into sections, such as marketing, financial, customer experience, product, etc.
  • Set Timelines Set a start date and end date for each objective. Annual plans are often broken down into quarters, but it’s not uncommon to set monthly and weekly timelines.
  • Determine a Budget Determine a budget based on financial projections. This step helps allocate resources teams or departments will have available to them, which will make planning more realistic.
  • Identify Metrics Decide what metrics to use for tracking and monitoring results. The data these provide is important for measuring if objectives are being met.
  • Assign Responsibility Assign a team, department, or individual to each deliverable to ensure nothing is missed.
  • Share with Team Members Share the annual plan with team members to create alignment and build motivation around working toward specific goals.

Elements in an Annual Plan

Elements in an annual plan include everything necessary to outline a comprehensive plan for growing any company. Here is a list of elements found in a general annual plan:

  • Budget: The funds allocated to each goal or objective.

Business Overview

The Business Overview section gives a close look at your Pilates studio. First, it talks about the studio’s space and what’s inside. It mentions how big the studio is, the kinds of machines and equipment it has, different areas for workouts, and extra features like places to relax and get well. This part shows how your studio is set up to meet the needs of people who come there.

Next, it focuses on where your studio is and how easy it is to get to. This includes why the studio’s location is good for customers, like being close to where people live or work and having parking or public transport options. The idea is to make it clear that coming to your studio is convenient and straightforward for everyone.

Lastly, it covers the types of memberships and classes your studio offers. It explains the different membership packages available, which could range from basic to premium, and the variety of classes you hold, such as beginner Pilates, advanced sessions, or specialized workshops. This part is about giving options that fit everyone’s fitness levels and schedules, showing how your studio welcomes and supports different people’s goals and lifestyles.

In the Market Overview of your Pilates studio business plan, begin by discussing the industry’s current size and its growth potential. This provides a foundation for understanding the scope of the market you’re entering.

Follow with an examination of recent market trends, including the growing interest in wellness, Pilates’ popularity for stress relief, and its benefits for physical fitness. For example, highlight the increasing number of individuals looking for low-impact exercises that improve mental and physical health.

Conclude by identifying the key competitors, such as local studios and gyms that also offer Pilates classes. For example, discuss what makes your studio stand out, whether it’s through unique class offerings or a strong community focus. This analysis will clarify the demand for Pilates, outline the competitive landscape, and illustrate how your studio fits into the broader market.

Next, develop a marketing strategy that outlines methods to attract and retain members through targeted advertising, special offers, social media engagement, and local community events.

Template Highlights

  • The template is available for download in Excel and Microsoft Word or accessible in Google Sheets and Google Docs.
  • In the Google Sheets and Excel files, our action plan template includes a task summary section that automatically counts completed, uncompleted, and overdue tasks.
  • Our action plan template also allows you to easily insert your logo, adding a professional touch to your action plan document when sharing it with team members or stakeholders.

What is an action plan?

An action plan is a document that sets out the steps required to complete an objective. It is often used in project management to help meet goals promptly. An action plan is more than a laundry list of tasks that need to be done. Rather, it’s a detailed breakdown of how you plan to achieve something. Your action plan may touch on objectives, resources, methods, and constraints.

Benefits of an action plan

As the saying goes, “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” Without a clear action plan to keep you on track, it’s easy to lose sight of important tasks and miss project deadlines. By using an action plan template, you can expect the following benefits:

  • Clearer objectives: Writing an action plan helps you pinpoint objectives for you and your team.
  • Better accountability: Having an action plan in place with set processes and objectives helps you stay accountable to yourself, your colleagues, and your stakeholders.
  • Increased productivity: With an action plan in place, you can save time and make your project workflow more efficient.

How to create an action plan

While this action plan can be used by anyone, it’s specifically designed for business owners and project managers. Follow these steps:

  • Define your goals: As Zig Ziglar said , “A goal properly set is halfway reached.” You should use the SMART goal framework to help with pinpointing your objectives.
  • Clarify key tasks: These are the steps you’ll take to achieve your desired outcome. For example, a new product release could involve tasks related to design, development, and production. Establish the priority level of all tasks and set milestones for their completion.
  • Communicate responsibilities: Each team member should understand how they fit into achieving the goal.
  • Identify challenges and dependencies: Clarify difficulties related to the task and mark when the undertaking of one task relies on the completion of another.
  • Set realistic deadlines: This step requires careful consideration because if you have many task dependencies with overly tight deadlines, one missed due date could derail the entire project timeline.
  • Amend your action plan: Regularly review your plan and adjust it as needed so that it continues to align with your objectives.

You've just joined a new team and you're trying to ramp up on recent activities. Summarize team communications over the last 30 days. What are the team's priorities?

You want to draft a one-page description of a new project (let's call it Project Foo) that's just about to kick off at work. Using information in file1, file2, and file3, write a one-page description of Project Foo. Write it so non-technical people can understand what the project is about and when it's scheduled to be completed.

You're preparing an email to invite customers to attend an upcoming conference and visit your company's booth. Using information in Document Z, write a fun, catchy email inviting our customers to come see us at our booth during next month's conference.

You want to plan a morale event for your team. List 3-5 ideas for group activities in the Seattle area that would be suitable for my team. Include approximate cost and time estimates.

Ask questions

Find information and get answers quickly, even if you can't remember where the information you need is or how it was shared. Here are some examples:

You need to know what's left in the budget for supplies. How much did we spend on supplies for Project Foo?  How much budget do we have left for Project Foo?

Your team received customer feedback. You want to identify the top things your team should address. Review the feedback we received from customers via email last week. What are the top three issues we should address?
