Vale Park (capacity 19,052)

Port Vale are one of the minority of clubs that are not named after a place, and instead are named after the valley of ports on the Trent and Mersey Canal. The club hold the unenviable record of playing the most seasons (105) in the English Football League without reaching the top flight. They have played at Vale Park since 1950.

With the exception of the Lorne Street Stand, all stands are single tiered with supporting pillars which can obstruct the view if you are in the wrong seat. However, the average attendance is somewhat lower than the capacity so this has rarely proved an issue. The Lorne Street Stand is the newest, although it has yet to be completed.

Away fans visiting Vale Park are located in the Bycars Stand, with a maximum allocation of around 4,500

This Darren Moore reveal is an exciting sign of Port Vale's ambition

  • Port Vale appoint Darren Moore as new manager after parting ways with Andy Crosby, signaling a change in leadership.
  • Moore's first game in charge is a crucial one against Cheltenham Town as Vale aims to secure their League One status.
  • The length of Moore's five-year contract shows Port Vale's ambition to move up the football pyramid and achieve long-term success.

Port Vale announced the appointment of former Huddersfield Town boss Darren Moore on Tuesday evening.

The announcement comes just a week after the club decided to part ways with Andy Crosby after winning just once in their last eight games , leaving the club less than a year after joining them.

Moore comes into the club with great pedigree having began his managerial career with Championship outfit, West Bromwich Albion before an impressive spell at Doncaster Rovers saw Sheffield Wednesday pay compensation to acquire his services. He would then go on to guide The Owls to promotion to the Championship before joining The Terriers.

"A magnificent appointment" - Pundit reacts as Port Vale plot Darren Moore move

Port vale league position.

Vale's tricky away trip to Peterborough United was one of three games on Tuesday that were postponed due to heavy rain experienced across the country yesterday, meaning Moore's first game in charge is a crucial one at the bottom of the table.

The Valiants travel to Cheltenham Town this weekend, knowing a win would increase their gap over the side directly below them and put more pressure on the surrounding sides, particularly helped by having games in hand on most teams in the bottom half.

This month signifies an important run of fixtures for Vale and their hopes of survival, as they also face relegation-threatened Reading and Fleetwood Town , so appointing Moore at this time of the season was crucial if they were to stand any chance of retaining their League One status next term.

Darren Moore the "primary target" in Port Vale manager search according to club chiefs

The club had been linked with a number of potential candidates before appointing Moore as their new head coach, but it appears the 49-year-old was always the number one target.

Upon the announcemount of his arrival at Vale Park, Director of Football David Flitcroft told the club website that Moore was the club's primary target in their manager search.

“We identified Darren as our primary target to come in as our new manager who can galvanise and energise the club," he said.

"Following extensive conversations, it’s clear to the board that he has a plan of how he wants to lead the club from the very front and understands the importance of success both on and off the pitch.

“He personifies every quality that we look for as a representative of Port Vale FC as well as possessing the management and leadership qualities that are so highly sought-after in any football club’s manager."

Port Vale's co-owner, Carol Shanahan, also added: “I am absolutely delighted that Darren is joining us as our First-Team Manager. He was the only manager I wanted and after hearing him speak so passionately about where he sees this club heading, it confirmed what I already suspected in that he will be a great leader for Port Vale.

“His values and aims are aligned with ours as a family and he is the perfect person to help us achieve our immediate and long-term goals.”

The length of Darren Moore's contract shows the ambition of Port Vale's owners

Having secured promotion from League Two two seasons ago, Vale are looking to build on their 18th place finish last term and try to move up the football pyramid.

The Valiants have fluttered around the Premier League stage in the mid-to-late 90's but have since been yo-yoing in between League One and League Two ever since.

But the appointment of Moore and the length of his contract suggests that they feel the 49-year-old is the man to lead the club through the latest phase of their existence.

Moore signed a five-year deal at Vale Park, with one of his first jobs is to ensure Vale remain in League One this term and to continue the rebuilding to next season.

Shanahan has a vision for the club that consists of financial stability and leadership on the pitch, and in Moore, the club have someone who can potentially take them to greater heights in the coming seasons.

That's a decent allocation. Double what they have to give us?

I see Port Vale have over 62 year old tickets , as against Boro over 65 ? Why can’t Boro do over 62 ? Seems a fair age for a reduction and might tempt older fans to buy a season ticket rather than picking the odd game . Older fans have been the life blood of the club , reward them with an over 62 ticket age limit.

How will that work though. I am over 65 and this season it doesn't let me buy an adult just an over 65(I think I have that right). So how will it let someone have a over 62 when we don't have that category of ticket on Boros site.

As long as your 62 by November 29th, just order a senior ticket and take your driving licence to the game. I can see some clubs slipping the age up to 66 as that is State Pension age now.

Nano said: It should be the other way around. The over 60s are one of the wealthiest demographic. "OAPs" aren't the paupers they used to be. It's working age fans that need the most help these days. Click to expand...
asredastheycome said: That's a huge generalisation Nano. Not every OAP is wealthy. I know some who could not afford to go to Port Vale away even if the club gave them free tickets. Click to expand...

I have noticed the OAP discount is starting to slowly vanish or get smaller. I guess because the new 66 year olds are usually better off than their parents were at the same age, as long as they have some form of occupational pension or additional income such as a buy to let. Occupation pensions started to become common in the late 1960s, sometimes it was compulsory to join. While people say born around 1920 often only had the state pension to pay into, until late in their working life.

Nano said: Of course it's a generalisation but it's based on demographic statistics. On average 60+ year olds have more disposable income than any other age group other than 50-60. Having cut price tickets for the wealthiest seems unfair when there are plenty of people in the working age group that also can't afford to go, and who likely also have to pay for children. These discounts are there because of a generalisation in the first place, that OAPs have less disposable income, but it's an outdated assumption. Means testing would be better but obviously completely out of the question for us to do that. Normalising the price so adults and 60+ pay the same seems fair to me (ideally somewhere in between the two prices). Giving discounts to seniors for things like restaurants etc makes sense because it's encouraging them to use the restaurant at quieter times. Wealthy 60+ year olds paying less than much poorer 30 year olds for the same thing doesn't sit right. Click to expand...
Beverleyred said: Although I welcome anyone’s opinion on this board, and perhaps don’t entirely disagree with what you say for the those with large pension incomes. I wonder if your sentiments will change when you reach your 60’s Nano. Take it from me, it’s ruddy hard work. Any available discounts are welcomed with open arms, believe it or not. Although recently retired with four months to go to my state pension, I’ll still have to cut my cloth accordingly, and adjust my life style to suit my reduced income. Plain sailing it isn’t my friend, and I’m sure that I’m not alone in that boat. Click to expand...

Port Vale are putting tickets for their game at Oldham on sale to season ticket holders from tomorrow (Thursday).

The Vale have confirmed they have an allocation of around 2,500 for the game, on Saturday March 21. Holders of season tickets, either for this season or next, have from Thursday to Saturday to buy them and can have two each.

Remaining tickets will then go on general sale from Monday.

The game could be key to the Vale’s hopes of reaching the play offs. With nine games remaining, John Askey’s side are one point and one place outside the top seven.

The club has also announced that fans who attend the next three away games – at Oldham, Cambridge and Carlisle, will be given a better chance of tickets for the final game of the regular league season, away to Plymouth on Saturday April 25th.

port vale allocation

Vale may only get an 1,500 tickets for that game, an allocation that is unlikely to meet demand if they need a result to clinch a place in the play offs.

So, fans who have season tickets (either for this year or next) plus their tickets from the next three away games, will get first priority.

Season ticket holders will get second priority, followed by non season ticket holders with tickets from the Oldham, Cambridge and Carlisle games.

Ticket prices for Oldham are £18 adults, £8 over 65s, 18-20 year olds and students, and £5 for under-18s.

Those admission prices rise to £22 adults, £10 over 65s, 18-20 year olds and students, and £7 for under-18s on matchday.
