The workman was excellent at his job

It took several attempts to match a worker, but TR succeeded eventually. The workman was excellent at his job, which was constructing a very large IKEA wardrobe.it involved some tricky bits that would have been too difficult for me. He wasn't rushed but was carefully to leave a perfect result

Very easy to arrange whilst ordering furniture from IKEA. Confirmation received from the person who would be building my wardrobe - very pleased with the work completed in a friendly professional manner. Will definitely use again

My Tasker did a great job

My Tasker was prompt, tidy and efficient. He was able to help me sort out some design issues which I hadn't really considered when purchasing my units. I would definitely use them again. It was easy to book online and I was given plenty of available time slots.

Handyman experience

I am a young female and as you can imagine moving on your own is tough! I needed my bed assembled asap so I found Oleh through the website, I booked him and he came within a couple hours and was super efficient and fast working, he was very kind and got the job done! Would totally recommend him and Taskrabbit!

Work good, app not so much

I have no complaints about the work but my experience of the app was not good. I just could not get it working. Ikea must have put in the wrong task and the joiner asked me to change it to reflect the correct price, however we could not get our prices to match up. I ended up paying £4 more than the price the app was giving him. Not a tragedy I know but still, I basically had to mix and match units to get a price close to the one he was quoting me. I'm pleased with the work and don't regret using the company however I will never use them again, their mark up is over 30% - ridiculous.

IKEA wardrobes

Fantastic job by Canberk and Catalin. They worked so hard and didn’t stop all day. Uneven walls and floors didn’t appear to be an issue for them. They fitted the wardrobes perfectly. Would highly recommend.

I got a quote of £109 for an IKEA…

I got a quote of £109 for an IKEA furniture assembling. My card details was taken for payment. Before commencement of job, I was informed there have been a mis quote from ikea and I do not need to worry as I do not need to take any step. The initial quote will stand. Only for taskrabbit to charge my card £187 after completion of Job a wooping £78 difference however a £1 was charged at the point of given card details This is Fraud!

We are sorry to hear about this experience. We value your experience and would like to look into this for you. If you have not already and would like to speak to Our Team further you can visit help.tr.co and click on "Contact Us" to get in touch.

Taimoor from task rabbit helped us with our Pax wardrobe. He was very efficient, really friendly and helpful and communication was key. He is a hardworking individual and with no time he fixed our wardrobe and it is fantastic. Thankyou

Efficient service

We were referred to taskrabbit when we purchased bedroom furniture from IKEA. We expected Jamie at 1.00pm but he requested to come earlier at 9.00am the morning of the same day. This was roo early for us so we settled on 10.00am. He arrived promptly and got straight on with putting three items of furniture together. He was a quick and quiet worker who just got on with the task. His work was professional and he placed the completed items in situ before leaving. Can highly recommend him and the service. Only problem for me was operating the Internet process to arrange a booking and contact the tradespeople.

Date of experience : 27 February 2024

He was booked for 7.5 hours to assemble…

He was booked for 7.5 hours to assemble the wardrobe and he finished it in less than 2.5 hours. He really knows what he was doing, but he his in hurry to get to another job. On arrival I took him to the garden flat where the job needs to be done. I couldn't lift up the wooden gate and I requested for help which he refused and after he finished assembling the wardrobe, he refused to clean the mess he made and also refused blantly to assist in moving the boxes outside the garden to where the bin was placed which is on his way. Customer Service is 25 %. There is a mistake with two of the wardrobe handles which he will need to come back and correct or I will raise a dispute with my bank. He assembled the wardrobe professionally, but made some errors because he was in haste. Please kindly let him come back to correct the errors before I give IKEA a call and followed by publicity. Thanks

Boring chore? Airtasker or TaskRabbit could help – at a price

I t’s like Uber, but for the household chores you can’t face doing yourself: from assembling flat-pack Ikea furniture, to cleaning your home, to sorting out problems with your computer. You go online, list the job you want doing, then others on the site bid to do the work.

It has already taken off in Australia, where Airtasker claims to be sorting out 1.4m household jobs a year, earning “taskers” AU$240m (£135m). This month Airtasker is spending about £20m launching in the UK, handing out £35 coupons to help pay for the first task.

US company TaskRabbit, which began a pilot programme with Ikea Wembley in late 2016, launched in Bristol at the end of February and is beginning operations in Birmingham and Manchester this week. Fans of the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be familiar with TaskRabbit, as it featured heavily in season three.

For frustrated householders who find it near-impossible to find people to sort out mundane tasks, or don’t know who to trust when it comes to more complex jobs, Airtasker and TaskRabbit may seem like a boon. Like Airbnb, householders can see reviews of work done before hiring someone, sort out the price beforehand, and know that payments will be handled by the tasker company, which then takes its cut (about 15%).

Airtasker is launching in the UK this month.

But critics – and there are many – see it very differently. They fear that the likes of Airtasker are the next step in the gig economy: driving down wages, busting union agreements and labour standards, and ignoring health and safety in a race to the bottom.

Trade union body Unions NSW, representing 600,000 workers in the Australian state of New South Wales, has called Airtasker a “ superhighway to serfdom ”, and warns on its website that it “flagrantly disregards the minimum wage and other labour standards by encouraging workers to compete and underbid each other for bite-sized pieces of work”.

Low pay remains one of the main reasons not all Australians are enthused with Airtasker. However, many fear their ability to find work on the site will be affected if they speak out.

Jackie (not her real name) set up Twitter account @FairGigForAll to raise awareness of the downsides of the gig economy. She used Airtasker to look for writing, editing and other digital work, but only completed two jobs out of the 70-odd she bid on.

“There are some really low rates around which work out to AU$5 an hour [£2.80]. I don’t bid any more, but I’ve kept an eye on Airtasker out of curiosity as no one seems to be documenting how low the rates actually are,” she says. “There are a lot of hirers looking for anything from cleaners to graphic designers at below the minimum wage. Other hirers have very vague instructions such as ‘edit my book,’ but they don’t say how many words it is. People are desperate for work, even though they have no idea how big a job it is, or the time commitment.”

TaskTabbit website on an iPad.

Job posters’ budgets for some creative tasks on Airtasker will make freelancers wince. Jobs currently up for bidding include writing a 1,000-word blogpost for a paltry AU$20 (£11), and designing a logo for AU$75 (£42). The minimum wage in Australia is AU$18.29 an hour (£10.27), while in the UK it is £7.50 (AU$13.34) an hour for workers aged 25 or over (£7.83 from April).

Airtasker founder and chief executive Tim Fung is well aware his company is launching in the UK in the middle of intense controversy over gig economy companies such as Deliveroo and Uber.

He says no one is forced to work at a particular time, do a job they don’t want to do, or work for a fee they’re not happy with. “It’s a fallacy that it’s a race to the bottom,” he says. “Less than 39% of tasks are actually assigned to the tasker who quotes the lowest price.”

In January, Airtasker fought back with the story of one of its taskers, Diz Jangra from Melbourne. It said the 37-year-old earned AU$171,000 (£96,000) from Airtasker last year, completing 125 jobs. The fledgling UK website of Airtasker is full of stories of happy taskers - such as smiling single mum “Samantha O”, who says: “I’ve been on Airtasker since late last year, and it is perfect for me as I can work within my own availability. I currently have three days a week that my children attend pre-school, so that is when I can complete tasks, as well as occasionally on weekends.”

Under pressure from Unions NSW, Airtasker has updated its price guide to reflect higher pay rates for certain trades – though it is still just recommending pay rates rather than enforcing them. It has also introduced an independent dispute resolution process and a $20m (£11.2m) personal insurance policy for those accepting work through the platform.

TaskRabbit features in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season three.

TaskRabbit told Guardian Money: “On average taskers earn £20 per hour, and we ensure that the living wage foundation is the minimum rate available.” Unlike Airtasker, TaskRabbit jobs are expressed in a cost per hour rather than per job. It adds: “Our platform helps those with skills connect to job opportunities and helps clients who are looking for skilled help get connected with people who can help them. We help connect taskers to work opportunities and help them grow their business.”

We tested the two sites, even though they are relatively in their infancy. On TaskRabbit, we asked for help clearing a loft in north London, estimating two to three hours. The site immediately offered a “quick assign” where the work would be done later that day – but for a steep £72.45 an hour. Once we said that we’d be happy for it to be done in a week’s time, the offers starting coming through more cheaply – dropping to £23 an hour.

On Airtasker, we said we needed someone for three hours for a one-off clean of a three-bed house. We set a cheeky budget of £50 (one-off “deep clean” services in London typically charge about two to three times that rate), yet within minutes we were emailed by “Dan” offering to do the work for the budget, and to bring his own cleaning materials.

Bear in mind that this was the total rate for the job – the handyman (their term, not ours, but every tasker offering was male) would have to spend time and money making their own way to the property, pay for their own insurance, parking and so on, and also lose a percentage of their fee to the platform. For now, it suggests that people are selling their services at or just above the living wage. But if these websites take off, drawing in many more taskers, then it must be inevitable that wage rates will fall.

Taskrabbit Review: 5 Things To Know Before Signing Up

Whether you’re tackling a home improvement project or need help with a challenging chore, hiring someone is sometimes the best solution. When it comes to finding that help, Taskrabbit may be a resource worth checking out.

I signed up for Taskrabbit and searched for a local “Tasker” to see how the process would go. You can use Taskrabbit to connect with contractors in hundreds of fields including furniture assembly, cleaning, delivery and repair. In this article, I’ll take a close look at exactly what you can do on Taskrabbit and how this resource can help you find the right person for the job.

This article was updated in July 2023 and I review it every six months. Detailed notes on all updates can be found here .

What To Know About Taskrabbit Before You Sign Up

Whether you need help with cleaning, running errands, moving or something else entirely, you’ll likely find a contractor on Taskrabbit who can complete the job. In addition to searching for local contractors, you can also view hourly rates, read verified reviews and book services online.

Before you create an account and begin searching for freelancers, consider these five things to know about Taskrabbit:

  • What Is Taskrabbit?
  • How Much Does Taskrabbit Cost?
  • How Does Taskrabbit Work?
  • How To Cancel Taskrabbit
  • Tips From a Tasker

In each section below, I’ll provide detailed information about the services offered by Taskrabbit, how to hire a Tasker and more.

1. What Is Taskrabbit?

Taskrabbit is a   website and app ( iOS and Android ) that allows users to research, hire, rate and review local service providers .

While searching, I found freelancers skilled in hundreds of categories including yard work, running errands, moving and more. According to the website , “Whether you need monthly cleanings or assistance assembling furniture, Taskrabbit can connect you with an independent contractor in your area.”

Those independent contractors are referred to as “Taskers,” and while they offer personal experience and expertise, Taskrabbit does not offer licensed professional services . For more information, visit this page in Taskrabbit’s support center .

2. How Much Does Taskrabbit Cost?

When I searched for a few different jobs, it quickly became obvious that hourly rates vary by Tasker . Because of this, Taskrabbit doesn’t provide estimates of how much a particular service may cost.

Still, you’ll be able to see an exact hourly rate when booking your task . When I searched for someone to clean an apartment in Atlanta in July 2023, I found listings for available contractors who charged anywhere from $21.68 to $103.24 an hour.

In addition to the Tasker’s hourly rate, you’ll also pay Taskrabbit service fee . If there are any materials required, you’ll either need to buy them yourself or discuss adding a reimbursement to your invoice with your Tasker.

In addition to the service fee, you can expect to see a Trust & Support fee added to your invoice after the service is completed. The Trust & Support fee varies.

For example, if I’m looking to hire a Tasker who charges $100 an hour, I would see $100 plus the service fee as the hourly rate. If the task takes only one hour to complete and no additional materials are required, I can expect to see a total that includes the hourly rate, service fee and Trust & Support fee on my invoice. For more information about Taskrabbit fees, reimbursements and payments, visit this page in the support center .

3. How Does Taskrabbit Work?

Taskrabbit works by connecting users with local contractors. The service also provides access to verified ratings and reviews. You can use Taskrabbit to find nearby Taskers, read about previous clients’ experiences, compare hourly rates and share your own reviews.

If you’re looking to hire help for a project or service, Taskrabbit can be a great resource for finding freelancers in your area.

Getting Started

To get started, visit Taskrabbit online or download the mobile app for iOS or Android . While you don’t have to create an account as soon as you visit the website or download the app, I recommend getting it out of the way. Creating an account is easy and free, plus you’ll have to sign up to see any local service providers’ information.

task bunny uk

To create an account, click “Profile” in the app or click “Sign up / Log in” in the top right corner of the website’s homepage.

Finding a Contractor

The best way to find a local service provider on Taskrabbit is to search for the type of task you need done . When I first visited Taskrabbit’s website, I clicked on the search bar and typed “Cleaning.”

From there, I answered a few questions about the project including the location, my estimate for long it would take to complete the task and a few other details. Then I clicked “See Taskers and Prices.”

Hiring a contrator on TaskRabbit

Along the side of the screen, I could indicate the task date and time I wanted as well as the Tasker type (such as “Elite Tasker” or “Great Value”) in order to narrow my results further. Be sure to plug in your preferred date and time before you select a contractor to prevent any scheduling conflicts. I was also able to sort the results by recommended, price (low or high), percentage of positive reviews and number of completed tasks.

Gathering Information and Hiring a Contractor

Once you’ve found a contractor you’d like to learn more about, you can click their name to view their information.

In addition to the Tasker’s name, you’ll be able to see how many relevant tasks they’ve completed, how many positive reviews they’ve received and a percentage of reliability. You can scroll down to see ratings and reviews from previous clients. If the Tasker has collected reviews in more than one category, you can choose to filter the reviews accordingly or view them all.

Details of a Tasker Profile on TaskRabbit for a local contractor

When I was collecting information on nearby Taskers who could help with cleaning, I felt that the app was more comprehensive than the website . It provided a clearer breakdown of ratings and reviews and had photos that I wasn’t able to find online.

Taskers’ profiles also include a brief introduction and an hourly rate, which includes Taskrabbit’s service fee.

If you see “ Elite Tasker ” on someone’s profile, this means that they’re one of Taskrabbit’s highest-rated Taskers and have met the following qualifications:

  • Maintain a positive rating of 98% or higher
  • Complete a significant number of tasks each month
  • No violations of Taskrabbit’s strict Marketplace Guidelines

Once you find a few available, highly-rated Taskers, begin comparing them. Be sure to read customer reviews, consider the Tasker’s reliability rating and look at the hourly rate. For more specific information on how to choose the best contractor for the job, follow these six tips .

After you’ve made your decision, click “Select and Continue” to choose a date and set a time. If you haven’t already created an account, you’ll need to do that now. Simply enter your name, email address, ZIP code and create a password before continuing.

task bunny uk

From there, you’ll be able to verify the details of your project. Then, you’ll enter your payment information, enter your phone number and confirm your booking.

What’s Next?

When you book a Tasker, you’ll have a   pending authorization charge applied to your account that will disappear after 24 hours. This is to verify the validity of your credit card. The actual charges won’t appear on your account until your Tasker completes the work.

Once you’ve hired someone, you’ll be able to chat with them online or call them on the app. Taskrabbit recommends using chat as your primary method of communication so that everything is documented in writing . Your phone number and email address won’t be shared with a Tasker. For more information on how to contact Taskers, visit this page in the support center .

Be sure to agree on the date, time and details of the project beforehand. You and your Tasker should decide what materials will be required and who is purchasing them. You should also work together to estimate how long the task will take as this will affect the total cost.

Once the task has been completed, you’ll receive an invoice for the hours worked plus any agreed-upon expenses. You’ll also be able to leave a review by logging in to your Taskrabbit account.

4. How To Cancel Taskrabbit

If you need to cancel a task, you can do so from the web or the Taskrabbit app.

From the website, click the small circle with three dots in the task window. Then, click “cancel.” From the app, click on the “tasks” tab and choose the task. Then, click “task info” and click “cancel.”

Note that if you cancel a confirmed task within 24 hours of its scheduled start time, you will be charged a one-hour cancellation fee at the Tasker’s hourly rate . If your Tasker has already completed some work, you’ll need to contact them directly. From there, you can agree on the number of hours that will appear on the invoice.

For more information on cancellations, visit this page of the support center .

5. Tips From a Tasker

To get a better idea of how to find the best freelancer in your area, I spoke with Tasker and a Team Clark volunteer, Bob Field. While you’re searching for the right person for the job, keep these tips in mind:

  • Be flexible. You may not find the perfect Tasker as soon as you log on, but Taskers appear in the search results only if they’re available. Try logging on at different times throughout the week or changing your project dates to see more results.
  • Do your research . The more research you put into it, the better results you’re going to get. Take the time to look at a contractor’s profile information, read reviews and compare hourly rates.
  • Trust the reviews . Taskrabbit doesn’t edit reviews and Taskers can’t delete them. Read all of the reviews, good and bad, to get a full overview of a service provider.

By following these tips, you’ll maximize your chances of finding the best, most highly qualified person to hire.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think Taskrabbit is a great resource for people who are looking for contractors or freelancers. Just keep in mind that the listings you’ll find on Taskrabbit are not for licensed professionals, though Taskers do offer personal experience and expertise. They’ve also gone through an identity verification process and criminal background check.

I felt that both the website and app made it easy to compare local service providers. After I created an account and searched for a nearby freelancer myself, I found these major pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Upfront Pricing. Instead of gathering quotes, you’ll be able to compare hourly rates before contacting anyone.
  • Convenience. Both the app and website were simple to use and made it easy to compare Taskers and hourly rates.
  • The Taskrabbit Happiness Pledge . This pledge covers clients for up to $10,000 worth of property damage, bodily injury or theft under certain conditions.

Cons:

  • Additional Fees. A service fee is included in the hourly rate, plus you can expect an additional Trust & Support fee on the final invoice. So you’ll end up paying slightly more than the quoted hourly rate, but the actual fees vary.
  • Not Licensed Professionals. Most Taskers aren’t licensed professionals, and those who are aren’t verified by Taskrabbit. If you feel you need a professional for your project, this may not be the best resource to use.
  • No Contact Before Hire. You won’t be able to send any messages, discuss project details or contact references prior to hiring.

After using Angi , Thumbtack and HomeAdvisor , I felt that Taskrabbit was best for smaller projects and services. While it’s easy to compare hourly rates, you can’t contact service providers before deciding whom to hire. You also won’t be able to verify licensing or ask for references. Still, if you need to book a second pair of hands quickly, Taskrabbit makes the process easy.

The 14 Best Sites & Apps Like Taskrabbit

Posted on February 27, 2024 - Tom Blake - This post may contain affiliate links that compensate us if you click or sign up. Please read our affiliate disclaimer for more information.

Taskrabbit is a popular gig marketplace that began in 2008. And these days, the platform has more than 1.1 million reviews and thousands of ‘Taskers’ across the world.

However, there are plenty of other sites and gig apps like Taskrabbit that you can use to make quick money on the side. That’s why this post is covering some of the best Taskrabbit alternatives that are on the market to help you get started.

The Best Sites & Apps Like Taskrabbit

Here are some of the top Taskrabbit alternatives that you can use to begin making money.

Table of Contents

1. Thumbtack

Thumbtack is one of the most popular odd job apps that helps handyman professionals find new leads and clients .

Taskrabbit monetizes by taking a 15% fee on all jobs. In contrast, Thumbtack uses a pay-per-lead model to charge contractors. In fact, contractors use job targeting to tell Thumbtack which jobs to push their way.

Thumbtack-app

If a job matches exactly what you’re looking for, you pay for the lead. Setting up automatic payments grants a 20% discount. If the job is a partial match, you only pay if you accept the lead.

Ultimately, the whole Taskrabbit vs Thumbtack debate isn’t exactly a fair one. Taskrabbit is awesome for part-time side hustlers , while Thumbtack is the perfect platform for professional  contractors looking to pay to expand their business.

If you offer high-ticket services, I strongly recommend checking out Thumbtack as a Taskrabbit alternative.

Another one of the most popular apps like Taskrabbit is Steady , a gig economy job marketplace.

Once you download the free Steady app, you complete a short side hustle questionnaire to help the platform learn more about you. From there, Steady matches you with gigs that suit your income goal and skill set.

Steady gig app

Examples of popular jobs you find on Steady include :

  • Food delivery gigs like making money with DoorDash or Uber Eats
  • Temporary work jobs in your city
  • Remote freelance gigs and micro task websites
  • Retail jobs
  • Driving gigs
  • Grocery delivery gigs like making money with Instacart
  • Caregiving jobs
  • Cleaning gigs

According to Steady, its users earn an additional $5,500 per year on average through these sorts of hustles. Apps like Steady are ultimately an easy way to get in on the gig economy action.

If you want to get paid to walk and make over $20 per hour in some markets, Oppizi is the app for you.

This new gig app pays you to deliver flyers to people in your city. It pays up to $23 per hour in the United States, and it’s also available in over 70 cities and 10 countries .

Oppizi

You claim available shifts as an Oppizi Brand Ambassador, with most shifts being around 3 hours. This means the gig is slightly less flexible than many gigs on Taskrabbit. However, you get paid hourly, so you know how much you’re making.

Oppizi is also a great side hustle if you don’t have a car . It also pays you weekly for the shifts you complete, and its hourly pay is quite high.

Jobble is an on-demand marketplace that is highly focused on the gig economy. And if you want a more traditional job board feel, it’s an excellent site like Taskrabbit to try.

This marketplace is still a great way to make money doing odd jobs, but it’s far less related to housework or handyman-type tasks unlike Taskrabbit or Thumbtack.

Jobble

The most common job categories on Jobble include event staffing, hospitality, retail, transportation, and general labor.

However, Jobble has recently started to scrape local job boards from what I can tell. If you visit the Jobble Job Board and enter in your Zip code, it’s easy to find local results or to use keyword and distance filters

Once you create a free Jobble profile and upload some information about yourself and a resume, applying to jobs is very easy. This is probably the main benefit of using this app in the first place since it’s really just a local job aggregator.

Handy is one of the most similar apps like Taskrabbit around, and it’s definitely possible to make some solid money with this platform.

As a Handy Pro, you can make money with general handyman tasks, furniture assembly, cleaning gigs, TV mounting/setup, and similar household tasks.

Handy-Pro-Signup

However, Handy also offers plumbing and electrical work, which are definitely the highest paying job categories on the platform. This platform is available in many cities across North America and the U.K. just like Taskrabbit.

To work with Handy Pro, you need prior experience. However, Handy is  not  an employer. The platform just connects independent contractors to customers, so there aren’t too many requirements.

6. Mystery Shopping Apps

One category of apps you can use as a fun side hustle option are mystery shopping apps.

For example, apps like Premise and Gigwalk pay you with PayPal cash for completing short tasks around your city. These tasks include simple jobs like taking photos of buildings or confirming the price of in-store items.

Premise-Data-contributor

You can also earn money by completing short surveys or by visiting numerous stores. Overall, they’re a pretty easy way to make money while you’re out running errands or when you’re exploring your city.

Apps like FieldAgent and Shopkick also have some similar gigs if you like this category of Taskrabbit alternatives.

If you want to make money working in hospitality and haven’t had luck applying to restaurants or hotels in person, Staffy might be a perfect alternative to find work.

Staffy wants to provide hospitality workers with flexible, well-paid gigs, and they do a solid job at that. And the app makes it easy to find same-day or short notice work opportunities in your area and to set your own rate.

Staffy

The Staff job board also makes it easy to filter for jobs in your area or to look for specific gigs. Email filters are also an option if you want live updates on when new jobs are posted.

Staffy is only available in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, you must provide a resume, references, and a photo that proves you are eligible to work in the given country.

However, Staffy is free to use since it’s up to restaurants and hotels to foot the bill (getting last-minute shift help is worth the cost). Plus, once you complete 5 shifts and have a 4.2+ rating, you’re eligible for StaffyPay.

Wonolo is another on-demand staffing app that is similar to Taskrabbit in terms of simplicity.

To work with Wonolo, all you need is a smartphone, a valid social security number, and to be 18 years or older. And it’s rapidly expanding to new cities across the United States.

Wonolo-Workers

The Wonolo app provides quick access to jobs in the following industries :

  • Warehouse operations
  • General labor
  • Delivery drivers
  • Food production
  • Event staffing
  • Washing & cleaning
  • Administrative
  • Merchandising

Currently, Wonolo is only available in 34 U.S. cities, but the platform is still growing.

9. NextDoor

Nextdoor isn’t so much of an on-demand job marketplace or pure lead generation marketplace. Rather, Nextdoor is designed to connect residents, business owners, public agencies, and contractors who happen to live within the same neighborhood .

Nextdoor

As a business owner or independent contractor, you can create a free Business Page on Nextdoor that describes exactly who you are and what services you provide. This lets you showcase your services to people in your area.

This system is similar to paying for leads on websites like Thumbtack, although you aren’t guaranteed to get any interest. This could be cheaper or more expensive than simply buying leads, depending on how skilled you are at marketing and how worthwhile your deal is.

According to Nextdoor , the average local deal costs $75 to promote. If you run a local business or want to reach more customers with a cheap test run, this is a great platform to try out.

10. Care.com

If you want to find on-demand work as a babysitter, nurse, or pet-sitter, Care.com is one of the best Taskrabbit competitors you can use.

One of the most important parts of finding housekeepers, babysitters, or nurses is trust . Thankfully, Care goes above and beyond in their screening process, making it a go-to platform for customers .

care-on-demand-jobs

Customers can request background checks on potential caregivers, but caregivers also have control. By following a few basic steps like having a background check, responding to messages, getting an approved profile photo, and getting 3 reviews, you can earn CareForce  status. This status will cause you to appear higher in search results and rank on local leader boards.

Jobs on Care pay pretty well according to Indeed , and this platform definitely beats out other on-demand gig websites for this line of work,

When  it comes to ways to make money with a pickup truck or cargo van , Lugg has to be near the top of the list.

Lugg is an on-demand moving and delivery company where you can help people in your community to earn extra cash. According to Lugg, if you own a truck, you can earn up to $2,500 per week!

Lugg-moving

This is probably on the high end, but according to Indeed, Lugg drivers earn around $35 per hour! You also keep 100% of your tips which is pretty awesome. Plus, you can sign up as a helper if you don’t have a truck, so there’s still money on the table.

Here are Lugg’s hiring requirements :

  • Have a recent smartphone
  • Be 18 or older
  • Be capable of lifting at least 100 pounds
  • Have strong communication skills with customers

You can also check out Roadie and GoShare , two more popular peer-to-peer delivery jobs that pay you for delivering packages!

Papa provides on-demand senior living assistance for families and individuals. Like Taskrabbit, Papa helps families and elderly people hire freelancers to help with everyday tasks.

Papa-Pal

As a Papa Pal, you can help elderly folk with jobs like:

  • Getting groceries and running errands
  • Driving people to appointments or wherever they need to go
  • Providing conversation
  • General house tasks

You manage all of your appointments and clients through the Papa Pal mobile app. There’s also a virtual companionship side of the platform where you can make money online by chatting with elderly people.

I can’t find exact payment information on Papa, but the website states the top Papa Pals earn $3,000 per month .

Like Taskrabbit, you also set your own schedule, so these gigs are rather similar. Taskrabbit still has more service categories, but if you specialize in elderly care, Papa Pal is a better platform to start with.

If you run a professional service like handyman work, renovations, or painting, joining Porch could be the best options for your business.

Porch helps homeowners find reputable services for things like home security systems and internet plans.

Porch-Pro

But, Porch also lets homeowners contact service professionals for help with projects like :

  • Handyman work
  • Electrical work
  • Plumbing problems
  • Windows and doors
  • Appliance moving or repairs

Porch is also similar to Thumbtack and Takl and lets service professionals buy leads to try and get more business. You also get to create a services page that lists what you offer, your testimonials, and work preferences like the areas you service.

To become a Porch Pro, it’s $360 per year. Porch Pro gets you discounts on buying leads, a verification badge some homeowners trust you more, and also gives you some automatic leads.

This is expensive, but if you’re struggling to find business, Porch might be a lead generation system that’s worth trying.

14. Instawork

One final app like Taskrabbit you can use to find quick cash gigs is Instawork .

This staffing app helps companies find same-day and short-term gig workers to fill open positions. As a gig worker, you can use the app to find same day pay jobs in your area .

Instawork

Examples of gigs you can find with Instawork include cooking, bartending, event staffing, and merchandiser work.

The platform is available in 40+ cities in the United States and keeps expanding. If Instawork isn’t available in your area, you can try some Instawork alternatives like JobGet , BlueCrew, and Airtasker.

Tips For Making Money With These Apps

Now that you know some of the best Taskrabbit competitors, here are a few tips that I’ve found helpful over the years to help me make more money with gig apps:

  • Stack Several Apps : Create a side hustle stack with several apps like Taskrabbit so you maximize your gig opportunities.
  • Track Income & Expenses : Always track your income and expenses so you’re ready to file taxes as an independent contractor. I suggest using mileage tracking apps like Everlance if you end up driving regularly for gig work.
  • Set An Income Goal : Decide how much money you want to make with these types of gigs so you can hold yourself accountable and track progress.

I also made a video that covers some guaranteed ways to make $100 a day if you want even more ideas similar to Taskrabbit that you can use to boost your income.

What’s The Best Alternative?

The best Taskrabbit alternative depends on how serious your side hustle business is. For example, you can use apps like Steady if you just want a part-time side gig. But you can use platforms like Thumbtack and Nextdoor if you have an actual contractor business and want to pay for leads.

Also note that these apps and sites like Taskrabbit are just a few ways you can make money in the gig economy. There’s also gig jobs like driving for DoorDash or jobs like Instacart where you can earn a steadier hourly wage if you’re most interested in stable pay.

My main piece of advice is to pick one platform to start out with to avoid stretching yourself too thinly!

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for some new side hustle ideas, I hope this list of Taskrabbit alternatives have provided some inspiration.

There are plenty of ways you can find business if you’re a side hustler or own a contracting business. And I believe that the options on this list are an excellent starting point.

But don’t be afraid to get creative. I mean, you can find local cash gigs on websites like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist . And even local classifieds or ads in the paper can help you find some work.

Professionalism and Service - Top Tier

Chris was very professional and installed a garbage disposal at my home. He not only verified that the garbage disposal was working after it was installed but also turned on the dishwasher to ensure there were no issues with the water backing up in the sink. His work was very clean and neat. I would have him perform maintenance work at my home again.

Very easy to find the service you need

Very easy to find the service you need, in the timeframe you need, and I appreciate the variety of hourly rates available. I had a plumbing repair done within a couple of hours of entering my request, and was very happy with the service.

I had dreaded this project and didn’t know who to hire. My friend recommended Task Rabbit and said she used them for all kinds of projects. It was a great experience and I will likely use Task Rabbit again soon.

I chose Slav to assemble bookcases and secure them to walls. He was on time, extremely polite, well-organized, and neat. He put together the furniture carefully and in a relatively short period of time. I will happily hire him again for any future projects!

My tasker experience

My tasker, Tim, was efficient, well prepared and super nice. He completed my tasks perfectly. If I had tried to perform the tasks myself, I would have needed to purchase tools and learn how to use them. Task Rabbit is the answer!

The tasker was just fantastic

The tasker was just fantastic. The reason I'm giving this 4 instead of 5 is that the messages were very slow getting to me, and I could only reliably communicate through the website. It could even have been on my end, but they did eventually show up. Other than that everything was done, quickly exactly as laid out, and I was treated courteously.

Date of experience : February 26, 2024

Great service

I needed someone to help me declutter my bedroom. My husband has been hospitalized with a foot injury, and will need a clear path in order to maneuver when he gets home. I was able to schedule someone easily. She arrived on time, did an amazing job, and was delightful. My only objection is the nearly $18 fee TaskRabbit charges for “Trust and Support.” They already make plenty from the services provided by the taskers, and I find that extra charge excessive.

Date of experience : February 28, 2024

The person that performed the service was very punctual, courteous, and very knowledgeable about what he was doing. He stayed until everything was working the way it was supposed to. He simply went above and beyond!

Sean J was Excellent!!

Sean J was great, friendly, fast, knew what he was doing, reliable, responsive. Highly recommend!! Would definitely hire again!

Terrific Tasker

Terrific Tasker! Mylo was great. Quick, efficient, friendly, and did things to perfection. I was impressed. Will definitely do business with her in the future.

Task Rabbit is an easy site to find

Task Rabbit is an easy site to find professional to do different types of handy work in your home. So far, I've used them to build 6 furniture set from Ikea & to install recessed lights in several rooms in my house. The work is done very well by good professionals. There is also a sense of trust and the rates are fair. Overall, I am very pleased with results and I will continue to use them.

Worker was great

Worker was great and did great work and stayed til the job was completed BUT it upset me that I hired him for outdoor work and the first thing he asked before starting was , could he use the bathroom. He was late already, why didn’t he go to the local Dunkin to use the bathroom.

Wall Gallery Mounting

Mikkel did an awesome job mounting a wall gallery. Appreciated his attention to detail, care, and efficiency. I’ll definitely be hiring him again for future projects. Worth every penny.

Rude unprofessional behavior

Hi - I left a review for C on Sunday Mar 3rd. He arrived 30 min late, was incredibly rude to everyone from the doorman to our friends and he even shouted at a 5 year old for no reason. He was completely unprofessional and we had to ask him to leave. He did 0% of the work that I required. Hence please reverse the charge for his services I am deeply disturbed by this behavior from someone who is rated 5 stars on your platform

Definitely Never Using Again!

Our cleaner had good reviews and was supported by the organization. However, he was terrible. Not only did he ignore instructions, not cleaning some things and cleaning others that we did not ask for, but he intentionally extended his time so that he could charge us for extra time we did not agree to. The quality of his cleaning was also terrible. Afterwards it looked like a tornado went through our place, with items scattered everywhere, cabinets left open, and small items missing. When I tried to report it to Taskrabbit, they did not have any accessible way to do so. I definitely will not be using this service again.

We deeply apologize for this experience and appreciate you taking the time to bring it to our attention. We'd like to look into this further, however, we'd need additional info to do so. The hired electrician took over eight hours to install two sconces in our kitchen, resulting in a ridiculous $700 bill. He also putzed around on his phone, wore headphones, listened to music, and didn't finish the tasks we hired him to complete. Nice guy, sure but now we have to find someone else to come in and finish the job. It was not a great experience.

Prompt; efficient; job well done

The work was completed efficiently and I was very happy with the result: a new bed frame. The only "glitch" was the communication bt text beforehand. I wasn't completely sure of the time since I had to reschedule. However, it all worked out.

Thank you for sharing this experience with your Tasker! If you need assistance with posting a review to your Tasker's profile or want to share any additional details on how we can improve, please reach out to our team via help.tr.co.
