how much is iphone 6x

Apple’s big September event was yesterday, which means two things: the company introduced new iPhones and cut the prices of its older models.

If you’re interested in an upgrade from your aging iPhone 5 or 6, but the $999 iPhone X is a little pricey, it’s the perfect time to take a look at some of the slightly older iPhones that Apple sells. To help you out, we’ve broken down exactly what your options are, along with how much everything costs.

The iPhone SE is the smallest iPhone in the lineup, with a 4-inch display and a design that resembles the original iPhone 5. But internally, it offers the same A9 processor and improved camera as the iPhone 6S, making it a pretty good deal for those who don’t mind (or even prefer) the smaller size. The screen isn’t quite as nice as larger-sized iPhones and Touch ID is slower, but the iPhone X doesn’t even have Touch ID, so something is better than nothing.

Prices : 32GB for $349, or 128GB for $449 Colors : Silver, gold, space gray, or rose gold

iPhone 6S / 6S Plus

The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are upgraded versions of the iPhone 6. It’s got the same design, with a choice of a 4.7-inch screen on the 6S, or a 5.5-inch display on the 6S Plus. There’s also support for Apple’s 3D Touch feature, and you get the ability to take animated Live Photos. Those two things, combined with a faster processor, are the main differentiators compared to the older 6.

Prices : iPhone 6S: 32GB for $449, or 128GB for $549 iPhone 6S Plus: 32GB for $549, or 128GB for $649 Colors : Silver, gold, space gray, or rose gold

iPhone 7 / 7 Plus

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were released last year, overhauling the camera from the 6S, with the 7 Plus getting a dual-camera system and a wide and telephoto lens. Along with the processor boost (to an A10 Fusion chip), the 7 line also added IP67 water resistance.

Prices : iPhone 7: 32GB for $549, or 128GB for $649 iPhone 7 Plus: 32GB for $669, or 128GB for $769 Colors : Silver, gold, black, jet black, or rose gold

iPhone 8 / 8 Plus

Of the new models announced yesterday, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus look pretty similar to the last few generations of iPhones, but they swap the all-aluminum shell for a glass back to facilitate the new wireless charging, upgrade the screen to a True Tone display for better color accuracy, and offer the usual camera and processor improvements (this time, to the new A11 Bionic six-core chip). At starting prices of $699 and $799, respectively, they’re the most expensive base costs for any iPhone yet.

Prices : iPhone 8: 64GB for $699, or 256GB for $849 iPhone 8 Plus: 64GB for $799, or 256GB for $949 Colors : Silver, gold, black

The iPhone X is the new flagship iPhone, with a radical new design, a new Face ID system for unlocking your phone, and an edge-to-edge bezel-free OLED display. It also has the improvements of the iPhone 8, including wireless charging and the new A11 Bionic chip. But at a starting price of $999 (not including taxes), customers on a budget might want to consider some of Apple’s older — and far, far cheaper — options instead. Or at least wait for the reviews .

Prices : 64GB for $999, or 256GB for $1,149 Colors : Silver, black

Correction : Fixed iPhone 8 Plus storage sizes.

Old Cellphone with Poor Battery

This cell phone is very old. It has a poor battery, its performance in 2022 is too poor for gaming, but it's okay for social media. The iOS version is old and it's not worth it these days.

  • Decent camera
  • It's an iPhone
  • Good quality screen (LCD IPS)
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Quick charging (5W) (45 minutes to charge)
  • Very good build quality (Aluminium)
  • Poor battery (1800 mah) (1 hour of usage)
  • Small screen (4.5 inches)
  • Low power for gaming but okay for daily usage
  • Old iOS version (12.5.5)

Fabulous

It has stood the test of time

I got the iPhone 6 in 2021, clearly billions of years after release lol, I wouldn’t say I have had the best of experiences but It just baffles me how much it can stands with some of today’s midrangers on camera and software department, the only downside of this phone is its battery and how hot it gets sometimes, otherwise you can do most today’s functions in not so bad environment... I would advice to get something more up to date if you have the money

  • Camera still does the trick sometimes
  • Doesn’t lag that much for a old phone
  • Faster than most phone in its price range
  • Temperature
  • Connections

How much is an iPhone? Find out in our iPhone price comparison

Karen Haslam

iPhones come in a range of models that are designed to fit your pocket and your budget, but how much will Apple’s current offerings set you back? Here’s a breakdown of the iPhone line-up, including which is the cheapest and most expensive of Apple’s iPhones.

Which is the cheapest iPhone?

If you’re thinking of buying an iPhone today, but don’t have a big budget, then the cheapest model available is the iPhone SE (2022) . It’s also the one with the smallest display (4.7-inch) and the last remaining device to retain the physical Home button.

It is also possible to save money on other iPhone handsets if you’d prefer a larger screen and Face ID. Apple currently sells the iPhone 13 at a discount compared to it first launched in 2021. The iPhone 13 is not all that different to the iPhone 14, which has also been discounted compared to when it launched in 2022, so if you want to save money there are plenty of brilliant iPhones available for less than the newest models.

It is also possible to buy cheaper iPhones from Apple’s Refurbished Store . These iPhones have been refurbished, but come with a one-year warranty. Another option is not to buy your iPhone from Apple, but to look for deals from one of the various Apple resellers or a favorable network contract. We track deals on all the iPhone handsets–check out our round-up of the best iPhone deals this month . We also have guides to the best iPhone 15 deals (and a U.K. version of that), as well as the best deals for iPhone 14 and the best deals for iPhone 13 .

If you aren’t sure which iPhone is best for you read our guide to choosing the best iPhone and our comparison of all the iPhones .

iPhone SE price

The iPhone SE (2022) is Apple’s cheapest iPhone right now. It’s ideal for those who want a smaller iPhone and a Home button.

Here’s how much the iPhone SE (2022) costs if you buy one from Apple:

  • iPhone SE (2022) 64GB: $429 / £429
  • iPhone SE (2022) 128GB: $479 / £479
  • iPhone SE (2022) 256GB: $579 / £579

iPhone 13 price

There’s not a huge difference between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 so if you aren’t bothered about having a slightly better version of the same processor and features like Action Mode, then you should get the cheaper handset.

Here’s how much the iPhone 13 costs if you buy one from Apple:

  • iPhone 13 128GB: $599 / £599
  • iPhone 13 256GB: $699 / £699
  • iPhone 13 512GB: $899 / £899

iPhone 14 price

As we said above, there’s not a huge difference between the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, but some new features arrived with the 2022 model that might interest you. For example, we love Action Mode, which allows you to film video while moving, plus there is also the Emergency SOS feature.

Apple has reduced the price of the iPhone 14 since introducing the iPhone 15. Here’s how much the iPhone 14 costs if you buy one from Apple:

  • iPhone 14 128GB: $699 / £699
  • iPhone 14 256GB: $799 / £799
  • iPhone 14 512GB: $999 / £999

How much does a new iPhone cost?

If you are prepared to spend a little more and want the latest iPhone you will need to consider the iPhone 15 and its larger brother the iPhone 15 Plus . If you want the ultimate iPhone handset then the iPhone 15 Pro review and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the ones to consider.

iPhone 15 price

Here’s how much the iPhone 15 costs if you buy one from Apple:

  • iPhone 15 128GB: $799 / £799
  • iPhone 15 256GB: $899 / £899
  • iPhone 15 512GB: $1,099 / £1,099

iPhone 15 Plus price

The iPhone 15 essentially comes in two sizes: the smaller handset with its 6.1-inch screen, and a larger version that has a 6.7-inch screen. This is the second time Apple has offered a larger screen with the standard iPhone. So if you are after a phablet-style iPhone, without having to pay the premium attached to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, this is the one for you.

Here’s how much the iPhone 15 Plus costs if you buy one from Apple:

  • iPhone 15 Plus 128GB: $899 / £899
  • iPhone 15 Plus 256GB: $999 / £999
  • iPhone 15 Plus 512GB: $1,199 / £1,199

Which is the most expensive iPhone?

Should you require the highest build quality and specifications that Apple can offer, then there is no other option than the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These are both premium powerhouses that hold every trick Apple can fit into a handset. They have prices to match though.

iPhone 15 Pro price

The iPhone 15 Pro is the same size as the iPhone 15, but the processor is a generation newer, and therefore more powerful, and the camera much better. There are many other enhancements that make this a better handset–but it has a much higher price.

Here’s how much the iPhone 15 Pro costs if you buy one from Apple:

  • iPhone 15 Pro 128GB: $999 / £999
  • iPhone 15 Pro 256GB: $1,099 / £1,099
  • iPhone 15 Pro 512GB: $1,299 / £1,299
  • iPhone 15 Pro 1TB: $1,499 / £1,499

iPhone 15 Pro Max price

In previous years the Pro and Pro Max have only been separated by screen size, but the Pro Max version of the iPhone 15 is Apple’s flagship iPhone for 2023, with Apple’s best ever iPhone camera with a 5x optical zoom.

Here’s how much the iPhone 15 Pro Max costs if you buy one from Apple:

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB: $1,119/£1,119
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max 512GB: $1,399/£1,399
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB: $1,599/£1,599

Here's What the Original iPhone X Costs Now

The iPhone X has reached its end of life. Here's how much retailers are charging for it today.

how much is iphone 6x

When Apple debuted the iPhone X in 2017, it called it the future of the iPhone. That future became a little pricier this month as Apple replaced the original X with new models — the $999 iPhone XS and the $1,099 iPhone XS Max .

Apple also broke tradition and rather than drop the iPhone X's price, it unceremoniously wiped the 10th anniversary iPhone from its lineup. Instead, the company chose to slash the prices of its iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 .

Fortunately, carriers are picking up Apple's slack, as many have lowered the price of the iPhone X. So if you want a new iPhone, but don't want to drop a grand in the process, here's where the iPhone X landscape currently stands.

AT&T customers can get the original iPhone X for $899.99 ($30/month over 30 months). Currently, AT&T is offering a BOGO discount when you buy two iPhones. However, the deal requires opening a new line of service and the maximum BOGO credit you'll receive for your second iPhone is $699.99.

Image

Sprint is slashing $100 off the cost of the iPhone X, which drops its price to $899.99 ($37.50/month over an 18-month lease). However, the carrier is also offering the iPhone XS for free and the iPhone XS Max for $4.17/month under the same lease plan, so you're actually better off opting for the new iPhones at Sprint.

Image

At the UnCarrier Network, the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max all come with a $30/month installment plan, so at first glance it may seem like the new iPhones are the better bargain. However, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max require a $279.99 and $379.99 down payment, respectively. The iPhone X, which is being offered for $899.99, only requires a $179.99 down payment. It's far from cheap, but if you opt for the iPhone X you'll save $100 on both the full price of the phone and on T-Mobile's required down payment.

Image

Like the competition, Verizon has dropped the price of the iPhone X to $899.99 ($37.49/month over 24 months). The carrier is currently offering a $700 credit if you purchase two iPhones. Alternatively, you can get a minimum $100 trade-in credit toward your iPhone X if you trade-in select iPhone or Android phones including the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, and more.

Image

Best Buy is honoring the same iPhone X deals and prices you'll find at Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. In addition, trade-in your iPhone 7 (or newer iPhone) and you'll get up to a $275 Best Buy gift card.

Very nice phone

Had Samsung phones in the past, great phones. Had to try the iphone 6s and it runs real smooth, not choppy at all, no lag. FAST! This feels real good in the hand, feels real solid. Nice features on Video, way more than my Samsung 5s. Battery was really good on the Sam 5s, but I think this beats it by 10 min. The encrypted i cloud is a very nice feature. After the Yahoo hack upgraded at every level for a secure mail and every other area. I got the 16GB and should of gone the 32GB or better yet the 64GB. But they make a flash drive for the phone and you can download into that and free up the phone or you can send everything to the i cloud, so no big deal if you do have the 16GB model.

Thin, super fast performance with beautiful, large 5.5" screen in 1920x1080 resolution

The iPhone 6S Plus is a huge step up if you've use to a smaller screen with its 1920x1080 resolution, compared to iPhone 6S1334x750 resolution. While it's comfortable to hold in your hand, it may not be a perfect fit for everyone due to reaching across the entire screen with your thumb is challenging. However, it's a small price to pay in order to have this beautiful, large 5.5" screen. This phone is fast! It's able to able to offer previews that pop right out of your screen. Photos are gorgeous with its built-in flash. It's also able to deliver beautiful low-light pictures too. Stabilization and smoother videos are wonderful, particularly for Netflix, Amazon Prime and Youtube TV viewing. This phone is a smart choice given it's blazing fast performance, excellent video and photos performance, with long battery life.

iphone 6 S Plus

I have had the phone for a bit over a month. I don't really see much improvement from the 6 Plus. It is a little bit faster with the new chip, and photo's are a tad bit crisper. However Siri still lacks much needed intelligence. Google Now is far superior, and gets you at least 95% of what you ask, where Siri is still only about 60%. This phone also locks up more, and has issues with the home button being unresponsive at times. I have also had multiple problems with calls and voicemail, which may be more related to AT&T's service in my area. All in all, I would wait for the 7 if you have to have Apple.

Pricey, But Worth It

It's a great phone, speedy, reliable, the battery lasts all day. I wouldn't recommend getting one under 64 GB, the high quality pictures take up quite a bit of room, and you just can't help taking more and more! It's very pricey, and it has a great selection of apps. I wouldn't call it a good deal since it usually goes for above $1,000, but if you can afford it it's bound to last a while and be reliable. The 3D touch is confusing at first but I got the hang of it within a few hours. The nice, big screen combined with the pressure sensitivity makes it a good tool for on the go sketches.

Adore This Phone

Recently reentered the world of Apple with this phone about 7 months ago and I couldn't be more pleased. It does everything I want it to reliably and I could never go back to a tiny phone. Have now converted family members. I like things I can count on and the 6s plus does just that. That being said I will keep this phone until Apple really outdoes themselves with the 8 or on to justify the huge price tag. Do yourself a favor buy the model you want late in the game when it's been out 6 months or more or just after the next phone comes out for a significant savings.

Nice screen size for reading and lots of storage for music and apps

I had an iPhone 6 that I used a lot for reading kindle books, and other things, along with web surfing, etc. Screen was just barely usable. This iPhone screen has enough screen real estate to be useful as a micro-iPad, yet is still usable as a phone. The storage is great. I've used about half of it with 14,000 songs from my library and playlist. Initially, I thought it would be too big physically, but it has turned out to be just the right thing for my needs and fits in my shirt pocket. Got a clear OBLIQ case with a stand, and a screen protector, and it's just great.

Phone is great partner

I like the phone just fine it works as good as exspected There just one thing I will mention has nothing to do with What phone will be used for. When I press any app it does not give options as the Manuel describes Yes I do have 3D turned on. If there is a fix for this I would be happy to hear about it. Otherwise phone seems to be doing fine. Also this is my first iPhone . Oh yes I have it in a protected case

Strong and Stable

Amazing and still quick for an old device. I am switching over from an android device. I picked this device over the google pixel and its safe to say i have no regrets. The device is quick, car play is amazing (For new Toyota's, I would say this is a necessity), its slim and the battery life is near perfect. IOS can be a bit annoying comparing to android but I think its worth it due to data collection done by google on an OS level and security.

Great all around phone

I had an iPhone 6 Plus that I really liked. I resisted upgrading to the 6s plus for a year and a half. After reading projections for the iPhone 7, I decided that I would go ahead and upgrade to the 6s plus. I'm very happy with my decision. Although this phone is noticeably heavier (.67 oz), it has a much better camera (with Live Photos) and a more durable frame. I also like the Rose Gold color. The processor is also noticeably faster.

Excellent phone and camera, but has long learning curve and shorter battery life.

It's an excellent phone with an amazing camera. For me, it doesn't get five stars because of its learning curve and shorter battery life than I've had previously. But it is true that my previous phone wasn't smart. It would have helped if Apple provided a short basic written primer for elementary tasks, instead of just supplying a dense textbook on its use online. Apple does offer free classes, as well--but honestly, to have to take classes for a product's basic uses!

Please think twice before purchasing this item.

Battery life is short and there's problem with the volume. Though it's on max volume, it's so small that I cannot even hear unless I turn on the speaker mode. (talking about when making calls.) I assume you don't want the speaker mode on every time you talk to somebody over the phone. Also, I have another apple product to compare with this one, but the box does not look like it is a legitimate Apple product and so for the charging cables. It is more stiff than the one I have which I bought from a registered Apple store.

Battery will not charge

This phone apparently has battery issues and Apple is over run with recalls. It is difficult to get an appointment to change batteries. I would definitely stay away from 6s. I am having so much trouble. Apple also can not do anything for you quickly. You will be without a phone for days.

Should have purchased an iPhone 8

Poor picture zooming ability. At 82% battery life remaining, it seems to need recharging rather quickly. Value is fair; form factor is big for a smart phone but then it's not that big.

Clean phone, but the battery life is non existent.

Apple iPhone 6s Plus

As many Apple users will tell you, their iPhone is one of the most essential pieces of technology they own. Smartphones have evolved to deliver much more than audio calls. They are capable music players, video streaming devices, and multi-tasking computers with their high-level operating systems and app stores. The iPhone 6s Plus picks up where the previous model left off, providing Apple fans with a phone that is not only bigger with longer battery life as well as significant camera enhancements but also better with the debut of the A9 processor and double the RAM (2GB) over the previous iPhone model.

At first glance

The most notable feature of the iPhone 6s Plus is its size: weighing in at only 6.77 ounces, this phone boasts a screen size of 5.5 inches and a sharp screen resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. This phone runs iOS 9 through 15.1, and like other iPhones on the market, it has both front- and rear-facing cameras, shooting at 5MP and 12MP, respectively.

What's under the hood?

As the name suggests, the iPhone 6s Plus, with its 5.5-inch screen, is considerably larger than its 4.7-inch contemporary iPhone 6s. However, the large screen of the 6s Plus is only one beneficial attribute of this model; the most significant improvement the 6s Plus offers is generously upgraded hardware that makes the phone feel much snappier than prior models, especially during intense use. The CPU is a powerful Apple A9 with 14 nm lithography, which rapidly receives data from 2 GB of RAM, allowing for fast startup and smooth switching between apps. The 2,750 mAh lithium-ion battery in the iPhone 6s provides superior battery life and between charge times compared to previous iPhones. The iPhone 6s Plus can be ordered with storage capacities of 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB and with the following finishes:

The benefits of the iPhone 6s Plus for sale:

The primary benefits of the iPhone 6s Plus can be divided into four main parts. First, this phone has heaps of power compared to its predecessors, which makes for slick performance and fast browsing. The phone's cameras offer better resolution and significant software improvements, allowing 4K video, live photos, and optical image stabilization for photos and videos. The phone has unique functionalities such as 3D touch, Siri always on, and iPhone's last 3.5-millimeter headphone jack. Finally, this phone has excellent battery life, allowing an entire day without charging.

Extras to watch out for

To get the most out of the iPhone 6s Plus, keep an eye out for prices of matching smart watches, cell phone accessories, and other components. Don't forget to find a sleek case and screen protector to keep your iPhone 6s pristine.

Your next phone could get a huge 5G upgrade, thanks to AI

Jesse Hollington

It’s that time of year again when Qualcomm ushers in its next generation of 5G modem technology. Announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC ) 2024 , this year’s Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF system is the successor to last year’s Snapdragon X75, and it builds on the 5G Advanced foundation laid last year with more raw power and new AI features.

The magic of AI-powered 5G

Upping the game for 5g carrier aggregation, covering the entire spectrum.

While the Snapdragon X75 moved the needle by adding support for the latest 5G Advanced standards, we’re still in that fourth phase of 5G technology, otherwise known as 3GPP Release 18 — and most carrier networks are still catching up. So, with no new standards to embrace, Qualcomm has focused on improving the inside of the Snapdragon X80 to take even fuller advantage of these cutting-edge 5G technologies.

Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3  chip uses last year’s Snapdragon X75 modem. While it packs in new generative AI capabilities , those are focused on powering things like Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite of user-facing features found on this year’s Galaxy S24 lineup.

  • Have an Android phone? You can get unlimited 5G service for free
  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 ushers in the next era of 5G connectivity
  • Razer’s 5G-enabled handheld gaming system is getting a public release

Qualcomm dabbled with some AI features in the X75. But by adding a dedicated AI tensor accelerator to the chip for the first time, the Snapdragon X80 is Qualcomm’s first attempt to truly harness the power of AI to dynamically tune how a 5G modem works. This year’s AI tensor accelerator powers the Qualcomm 5G AI Suite Gen 3, which the company says “intelligently enhances data speeds, quality of service (QoS), latency, coverage, and power efficiency.” In other words, all the things that make a 5G chip deliver top-notch performance.

Specifically, the AI will handle things like network selection to ensure that your smartphone or other device is more likely to link up with the best towers and bands, as well as more intelligently balance power efficiency and fast performance with on-device machine learning that analyzes how you use your device and the 5G networks and frequencies that typically surround you.

For example, while it makes sense to connect to the nearest 5G tower when your smartphone is dormant, during periods of peak congestion, it can take more power to get the kind of 5G speeds you need for streaming 4K video or transferring large files. In those scenarios, connecting to a less busy tower that’s farther away can be more efficient and save battery life.

While most 5G modem systems are already designed to account for things like this, they’ve traditionally been based on static rules designed for the most common scenarios, but lack the flexibility to deal with the relatively unpredictable world of 5G networks and the people who use them. Qualcomm’s 5G AI Suite promises to help a new generation of smartphones adapt to this ever-changing 5G landscape.

“Leveraging AI is critical to the future of connectivity,” said Durga Malladi, Qualcomm’s senior vice president and general manager of technology planning and edge solutions, adding that “this latest milestone underscores Qualcomm Technologies’ leadership at the intersection of cutting-edge AI and advanced modem-RF technology.”

Speeds on 5G networks have hit something of a plateau , forcing network engineers to devise new and creative ways of getting the best speed over the longest range. While many once believed that extremely high-frequency mmWave networks would be the solution, those turned out to be cost-prohibitive due to the disappointingly limited range of those frequencies and the staggering number of transceivers that would need to be deployed to provide adequate coverage over a large area.

The result is that most carriers have now set up camp in the midband frequencies , and while those deliver an excellent range-to-speed ratio, they still have their limits. Hence, companies like T-Mobile have been turning to 5G Carrier Aggregation (5G CA) , which combines multiple 5G frequencies to boost speeds into the gigabit-per-second ranges.

Of course, 5G CA on the carrier side is useless unless client devices support it, and that’s where Qualcomm’s latest 5G Advanced chips come in. Last year’s Snapdragon X75 already offered five-carrier aggregation on sub-6GHz frequencies, meaning T-Mobile customers with a Samsung Galaxy S24 should already be experiencing faster speeds.

The Snapdragon X80 will now push that to new heights with 6X downlink carrier aggregation and a six-antenna architecture. This means smartphones equipped with that chip will be capable of receiving data on six separate 5G frequencies simultaneously at maximum speeds. While T-Mobile isn’t quite there yet — it only has four-carrier aggregation right now — it could very well expand that by the time the first X80-powered devices land in North America early next year.

Oddly, the Snapdragon X80 also still supports Snapdragon Satellite , which may lead some to believe that the reports of its demise  have been exaggerated. However, Qualcomm isn’t talking about it much this year other than to say that the X80 is the first 5G modem to get fully integrated support for Narrowband Non-Terrestrial Network (NB-NTN) satellite communications, suggesting that Qualcomm may be preparing to take another kick at the can with a more open standard. The original Snapdragon Satellite was a proprietary Qualcomm technology, but after its agreement with satellite provider Iridium fell apart last year , it promised to focus its efforts on standards-based solutions.

Alongside the Snapdragon X80 Modem-RF system, Qualcomm has also unveiled the FastConnect 7900, a new Wi-Fi 7 processor that integrates not only Bluetooth, but also Ultra Wideband technologies on a single chip while also leveraging new AI technologies to maximize performance and reduce latency and power consumption.

Like the X80, the FastConnect 7900 uses machine learning AI to optimize performance by helping it adapt to the way you’re using your device and the environment you’re in. This reduces power consumption and promises to deliver extremely low latency on Wi-Fi networks and new High Band Simultaneous technology that can provide seamless and near-instantaneous movement of whatever you’re watching or working on from your phone to your TV to your PC.

The integrated Ultra Wideband adds proximity to the mix, taking Snapdragon Seamless  and Qualcomm’s Expanded Personal Area Network (XPAN) to a whole new level.

“FastConnect 7900 is a technological feat, leveraging AI to raise the bar and deliver leading Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth capabilities while integrating Ultra Wideband all on a single 6nm chip,” said Javier del Prado, Qualcomm’s vice president and general manager for mobile connectivity. “The system brings next-level capabilities across AI, proximity, and multi-device experiences into the devices we love most.”

The Snapdragon X80 Modem-RF System and FastConnect 7900 are both expected to launch commercially in the second half of 2024, with the first smartphones and other devices featuring them likely to arrive toward the end of the year.

After spending over $1,000 on a flagship 5G phone, you might think you're getting the fastest network speeds possible. After all, isn't that what you're paying for? But our recent network testing shows that may very well not be the case, with 5G performance on flagship phones being minimally better than budget phones, and in some cases, actually worse.

To give you some context, earlier this year, we put the 5G-capable MediaTek Dimensity 700 against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 in a test to see which processor delivered the best 5G performance and had the best daily user experience. Six months on, we’re going to take a look at four new 5G phones with different chips to see how they compare to answer this question: Does paying more for a smartphone with a flagship processor inside give you the fastest network connection, or is it all pumped-up marketing? Understanding 5G Before going into the details, we received some very interesting feedback from MediaTek after our last test, which is also relevant to this one. MediaTek contacted Digital Trends to discuss the 5G speed test results, as the Dimensity 700-powered Realme 8 5G couldn’t match the Oppo A54 5G with a Qualcomm chip inside. The company then took its own test equipment to the area where I had tested the phones, and in conversations afterwards, it gave plenty of insight into how 5G varies across phones, networks, and location.

If you buy a reasonably priced 5G smartphone in the near future, it will probably be powered by either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 or the MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor. Should you be choosing your new phone based on which chip it uses, or simply not worry and just get the phone that takes your fancy?

To find out if there is any real difference between a 5G phone with the Dimensity 700 or Snapdragon 480 inside, we’ve put two of the latest phones with each chip against each other. In MediaTek’s corner is the Realme 8 5G, and fighting for Qualcomm is the Oppo A54 5G. Is this going to be a draw, or is one going to deliver a surprise knockout blow? The phones and the chips While the U.S. waits for more truly low-cost 5G phones, the trend is well underway in the U.K., where the Realme 8 5G costs 200 pounds/$278, and the Oppo A54 5G costs 220 pounds/$306. Both were announced in April this year, and are extremely similar to each other technically, aside from the chip and part of the camera.

Qualcomm is making 5G even more accessible. 2020 was the year that most phones started coming with 5G, and now it looks like 2021 will be the year it comes to the low end. That’s thanks to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 480, which has Qualcomm’s X51 5G modem, and will likely feature in phones in the sub-$300 range.

In 2020, Qualcomm released a few different 7-series chips that support 5G, which powered some of our favorite phones, as well as the Snapdragon 690 with 5G another tier down the line. Bringing the support to the 4-series means that phones across almost all price ranges will soon support 5G, except for, perhaps, the cheapest of the cheap phones that come with 2-series chips.
