Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables can help ensure you get the recommended amounts of these vital nutrients. Fruits and vegetables are packed with fiber, which can help lower cholesterol and keep you feeling full longer. They also provide antioxidants, which can help protect your cells from damage, and they are naturally low in calories and fat. Eating more fruits and vegetables can also help reduce your risk of developing certain chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Additionally, fruits and vegetables are great sources of vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium and folate. All of these nutrients are essential for healthy growth and development.

Fruits and Vegetables Worksheets for K and 1st Revised

Fruit and Vegetable Worksheets for Kindergarten and First Grade

If you’ve browsed here at Mama’s Learning Corner the past week, you know that my kiddos and I worked on a Fruit and Vegetable Unit Study .

We’ve had a great time learning how fruits and vegetables are categorized, how they grow, ways they give us nutrients, and more.

It’s been a treat!

Note: This post was originally written in April 2016. I have left the post mainly intact, but updated the pictures and completely overhauled the Fruit and Vegetable worksheet packet. If you have purchased it in the past, please re-download the packet and enjoy it again!

In fact, we didn’t get to all of the books I planned because we spent a lot of time poring over our spine books.  Even though I only planned one week for this particular unit study, I’m going to extend it another few days.

My kids aren’t ready to move on from the topic either, so it works out perfectly!

For the past few days, my Kindergartner and First Grader have been working on several sheets from this packet of fruit and vegetable worksheets.

My children always love themed printables, so of course they loved each one of these!

➡ Unit Studies are such a fun way to learn in the early (or later!) years. Browse through all of my unit study helps if you need some fresh ideas or want to get started with simple unit studies full of learning!

Vegetables, Berries & Fruit Activities for Preschool

Educational game is one of the key tools for early child development. While playing, your child develops memory, thinking skills , learns new words and gains new knowledge about the world around. To make learning more effective, you can use printable games that are tailored to your child's age, abilities and interests. For example, the simplest educational game about fruits and vegetables will introduce children with the world of plants and teach them to distinguish fruits from vegetables by their characteristics.

Apple Math Busy Book for Toddler

The benefits of educational games for kindergarten

The play-and-learn method is the most effective way for children to learn. Dice, printed cards, coloring books, puzzles, rebuses and lotto games are used as teaching tools.

Through play, children learn to interact with each other and the world around and develop their social skills. Besides this, educational games develop:

Number Tracing Worksheet

  • cognitive skills;
  • analytical thinking;
  • hand-eye coordination ;
  • speaking skills;
  • imagination and creativity;
  • fine motor skills;

On WUNDERKIDDY you can print educational games for children from 1 year and up, to develop their skills and abilities, mentioned above.

Educational Games On The Topic Vegetables, Fruits and Berries

One of the most popular didactic games for children is sorting cards of fruits and vegetables. By sorting the pictures, children learn about plants, where they grow, what color they have and how they are eaten.

Cherry Tree Addition Worksheet

The games about vegetables , fruits and berries are a simple, but very effective. These are coloring books, cut out templates, matching worksheets, etc. You can find them to download and print free on WUNDERKIDDY.

Printable educational materials WUNDERKIDDY will help your child to:

Fruit Slices File Folder Game for Kids

Games about fruits and berries will help to quick memorize their names and develop memory in general. These games get children acquainted to such concepts as «one» and «many». Pick the Color Vegetables Matching Activity

Popular games for preschoolers to learn about fruits and vegetables:

  • The " Place on the Plate " game. Give the child several paper plates and cards with fruits, berries and vegetables. The child's task is to correctly categorize the cards and place them on the empty plates. The game stimulates the preschooler's fine motor skills and logical thinking.
  • Sorting games. Fruit and vegetable sorting games are not only fun, but also develop logic and attention of toddlers and preschoolers. A child can sort fruits by color, shape, type, or size. With printable sorting games children learn to identify the common features of a group of objects and develop analytical thinking.
  • Match by Shadow game. Print out colored cards with fruits, berries and vegetables, as well as the cards with their shadows or silhouettes. The children task is to find matching pairs. This activity develops attention to details and memory.
  • Games with clothespins. The simplest clothespin games can be used with children of 1-year-old and up. Fast in any game you can use clothespins to indicate the answer: color of vegetables or fruits, their size, shape, etc. Such games with clothespins improves very well fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Vegetable puzzles for toddlers. Invite your toddler to assemble the picture from the pieces. For toddlers we recommend to print out cut pictures of 2-4 fragments, for the elder students you can print out puzzles from more pieces.
  • The game «Find The Odd One Out». Take 4 pictures that have common features and add an extra picture that differs from them. For example, give the child pictures of a carrot, a cucumber, a potato, an apple and a tomato. Then ask him/her to remove the odd one. Make the task more difficult by asking your child to identify the vegetables that grow underground . Explaining him/her choice, the child develops reasoning skill and vocabulary.
  • Role Play. Create a fruit & vegetable market game in which children can sell fruits, berries and vegetables. Role-playing games are useful for developing children's social and communication skills.
  • Drawing and coloring activities. Children love drawing, so they will enjoy coloring books. Coloring helps develop spatial thinking, fine motor skills, and creativity. Chop off the top of the carrot, place it in a shallow dish, and add enough water to cover the base of the carrot stump. Instruct the class to water daily and observe it grows.

Extend learnings from this activity by teaching them about gardening. Have them monitor the water in the dish and check if the carrot receives enough light and warmth during the day.

You can also tell the class to start a simple nature journal where they can draw the carrot as it grows. Or let them take pictures as the carrot grows and paste them on their journals.

  • A shallow dish
  • About an inch of the top of a carrot

10. Plant a Garden

kindergarten worksheets fruits and vegetables

This activity takes weeks or months but will be worth it once the class sees all the fruits and vegetables they’ve grown. It also offers tons of benefits for the little ones!

To teach the class how to garden, begin by choosing what to plant. Carrots, green beans, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and peas are easy to grow, so consider planting them.

Next, show the children how to dig the soil and fertilize the garden. Teach them how to water the fruits and vegetables properly and the amount of water they need to use.

If you don’t have a big plot of land outside the classroom, use containers or hanging pots. Strawberries, radishes, and tomatoes thrive well in containers and pots as long as they receive sufficient sunlight and water.

  • A plot of land
  • Various seeds
  • Containers/hanging pots (optional)
