What is a business phone plan?

Is it worth getting a business mobile plan, how do i compare business phone plans, what is the best business mobile plan in australia, telstra business mobile plans, optus business mobile plans, vodafone business phone plans.

Why compare mobile plans with Finder?

We don't charge extra. Prices shown on Finder are the same as those you get directly from mobile plan providers.

We regularly work with providers to deliver amazing exclusive offers you won't find anywhere else.

We have a team dedicated to monitoring mobile plan prices and keeping deals updated daily.

Business phone plans are designed for businesses to give to their employees, so they can keep in touch with clients and co-workers.

If you're running a business with multiple employees that need work numbers, it makes sense to look at getting a business mobile plan to make it easier for organisational or tax purposes.

They have different inclusions to personal mobile plans because people tend to use their phones differently for business than they would for recreation.

Business plans are also designed for lots of employees to share inclusions.

They also often have better access to support , because the consequences of a business phone being down are much harsher than that of a personal phone.

  • Keep in mind: SME's and larger enterprises reap the most rewards with a business mobile plan. Business phone plans won't really benefit sole traders (depending on how you handle tax).

Depending on the size of your business, a mobile plan specifically designed for work may or may not benefit your organisation.

  • Designed specifically for business. Many also allow you to tailor the plans specifically to suit your business needs. For example, if you need international call inclusions to keep in touch with international clients, or have multiple employees who can share a data pool.
  • Lots of options available. Businesses come in so many different flavours – a cheese factory and game development studio would have vastly different calling and data needs, so providers have plenty of options to make sure you get the right plan.
  • Extra value. Because most businesses are signing up for a bunch of mobile plans at once, providers will often kick in extra perks like international call inclusions, or discounts.
  • Cost and contracts. These plans tend to be more expensive than regular mobile plans and often have long contracts. Think carefully about whether a business plan or a regular account with multiple personal plans is better for you.

Note for sole traders:

You don't need to have a business phone plan to be able to claim your phone on tax . You can claim the portion you use for business on a regular, personal phone plan. This will be the most cost-effective choice for most sole traders who only have 1 phone.

There are a lot of options in the business mobile world, and your needs will be different from other businesses. Here are some things to consider besides the cost of your plan.

busines support icon

Business support

This is the main thing business plans offer over personal ones. If this is something that's important to you, make sure you're being offered tech support and personalised service in the way you prefer.

network coverage icon

Network coverage

Telstra covers the most places in Australia, so if your business will take your employees out into rural and regional areas, a plan on the Telstra network may be worth the extra dollars it costs.

flexibility icon

Flexibility

What you need this quarter might not be the same as what you need next quarter. In many businesses, being able to reduce costs quickly can be vital. While all providers will let you add plans and upgrade to more expensive ones with more inclusions, make sure the one you choose will also let you move down to a cheaper plan and even remove plans in case of tough times.

mobile device icon

Do you already have devices you can give to your employees? The major providers will often have device bundles available to sign up to which can be convenient, but could you get a better discount on bulk phones elsewhere?

mobile data icon

How much data do you really need? Consider whether a large data pool shared amongst employees is a good option, or if you'd rather each employee has their own set amount of data each month.

As each business is so wildly different from the next, it's impossible to pick a mobile plan that will best suit every business.

Many businesses may prefer to sign up to a larger, more established provider, but that's not to say you won't get excellent service and cheaper prices from smaller providers too.

We've broken down the main offerings from the 3 largest business mobile providers in Australia to give you a taste of what's on offer.

Norton

WORST provider ever of any kind!!! I ported my number from Moose three weeks ago, Telstra said it would take 24 hrs to complete. Now, three weeks have passed, where is my number??? Telstra’s customer service? Don’t be SILLY! Never talk about things that don’t exist.

Minni

Switched from Aussie Broadband. Very happy with this decision. No dropouts and stable speed even during peak hours. One year of free Disney Plus is very attractive for a family with children.

Moira

Telstra is the absolute worst provider! Charging expensive prices but providing the poorest service! My call never got through no matter at daytime or nighttime. Very hard to cancel. I have switched to a new provider for three months but they kept sending billing emails to me. Do not choose Telstra, you will regret your choice.

Susie

I ordered a post-paid SIM online, waited a week to arrive and four days to activate. I called them for the reason why these processes took that long, but they could not give me an explanation. Not recommend.

Nat

A painful experience to upgrade my Internet package by using Telstra’s “Message Telstra” service. The process was extremely slow. Waited for a long time to talk with staff and told them what happened. But just feel like talking with a robot. They only gave you a canned response without answering your question. DO NOT CHOOSE TELSTRA. You deserve better.

Jessi

Best coverage but poorest customer service! I have got enough with them! I called them many times for one issue and got a different answer each time. They never care about customers’ complaints.

Daphne

Customer service equals to ZERO!!!It is very hard to talk to real person, just keeping texting and texting!!!Absolutely joke!!!

Mona

Have been trying to activate my Sim for 3 days, and they still can’t activate it for me. Very poor online customer service. I talked with 4 peole but none of them can activate my Sim. Anyway, I just want a refund and sign with another one provider.

Belinda B

Spent many hours waiting for the messaging robot to respond, I just want my phone connected. Plz tell me how to talk with a real person????????

Stephen

Telstra’s network coverage is the best but you pay a bit more for that. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Telstra’s air service is easy to connect with the android and iPhone app and there are plenty of hot spots.

starise

Telstra\'s eir network coverage is the best but you pay a bit more for that. Where it really counts is their customer service. I would recommend Telstra to other people from my positive experiences.

Albert

I have in Telstra for nearly 1 year and I did not meet any issues about speed of cable internet. I get in excess of 90mb/s during peak hours. Telstra has also improved their customer service by relying more on 24/7 online chat support which is way quicker than waiting in a queue on the phone.

Cheap plans on the Telstra network: stay connected for less

Telstra’s prices have gone up – is it time to switch?

A cropped close up of young people holding mobile phones.

  • Best plan overall
  • Best high data plan
  • Telstra’s network
  • Telstra MVNOs

Telstra has the largest mobile network in Australia, and it’s also the telco with the widest-reaching 5G network. Its coverage comes at a high cost though, with prices starting at AU$62 a month. We think that’s incredibly expensive, but this has been the case since Telstra increased the price of its mobile plans by as much as AU$6p/m on July 4, 2023.

Luckily, there’s a way you can get Telstra’s coverage for a cheaper price, and that’s by signing up to a Telstra mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). An MVNO is a mobile provider that doesn’t own the infrastructure it uses to provide mobile services to its customers. Instead, it leases the network of one of the major players and resells it to you – at a much cheaper price. Here, we’ll delve into the other Telstra network providers that can get you the same (or very similar) Telstra mobile coverage for less.

Best SIM-only plan on the Telstra network

Mate22GB dataNo lock-in contractAU$1 for first month (then AU$25p/m)

Mate | 22GB data | No lock-in contract | AU$1 for first month (then AU$25p/m)

Mate is our recommendation for the best SIM-only plan on the Telstra network. Thanks to an excellent introductory offer, you’ll get your first month on this plan for just AU$1, before it increases to AU$25 a month ongoing. You’ll get 22GB a month, and any unused data will automatically roll over into the next month (up to 500GB). Use the promo code MATE1 .

Total minimum cost is AU$1 | Total cost for first year: AU$276 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$300

Best high data SIM-only plan on the Telstra network

Mate240GB dataNo lock-in contractAU$1 for first month (then AU$45p/m)

Mate | 240GB data | No lock-in contract | AU$1 for first month (then AU$45p/m)

Mate is also our choice for a high data SIM-only plan using the Telstra network. This plan usually comes with 120GB a month, but you can currently get double data for your first six months. You’ll also pay just AU$1 for your first month on this plan, before the price reverts back to the standard AU$45 a month.

Total minimum cost is AU$1 | Total cost for first year: AU$496 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$540

Telstra’s mobile network

  • Basic plan : 50GB for AU$62p/m
  • Essential plan : 180GB for AU$72p/m
  • Premium plan : 300GB for AU$95p/m

Telstra’s mobile plans are the most expensive in Australia, and as we’ve mentioned, its prices increased by up to AU$6p/m from July 4, 2023. Still, Telstra can be an appealing choice for many, and for some living in regional and rural areas of Australia, it may be the only choice that’ll provide them the coverage they need.

Other Telstra network providers

There’s at least 10 other providers which also offer full (or partial) access to Telstra’s mobile network, and most of them do so for a much cheaper price than Telstra. Here’s a breakdown of your alternatives for Telstra network mobile plans:

Boost Mobile

Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

  • Uses full Telstra network

Boost Mobile is the only provider to offer full Telstra network coverage, and it’s a much cheaper alternative than going with Telstra directly. This provider, however, only offers prepaid mobile plans – some coming with a 28-day expiry while others have a 12-month expiry.

Most of Boost Mobile’s plans include full access to Telstra’s 5G network, but depending on your plan, you might have to contend with a download speed cap. The cheaper options tend to cap download speeds at 150Mbps, while a mid-range plan has capped download speeds at 250Mbps. On the most expensive plan, there’s no cap at all.

All of Boost Mobile’s 28-day expiry plans come with data rollover, provided you recharge before the expiry date. Boost Mobile’s plans include the basics of unlimited calls and texts to standard numbers in Australia, while some add inclusions such as unlimited calls to select countries, or included international minutes.

See more: Boost Mobile’s plans

  • Uses parts of the Telstra network

Belong is owned by Telstra, but it’s a much cheaper alternative. Belong markets itself as Australia’s first carbon neutral telco, and it received certification by Climate Active in 2019. If you’re looking for a sustainable mobile provider, Belong is a good choice.

Each of Belong’s plans come with unlimited calls and texts to standard numbers in Australia, as well as 5G network access. Your download speeds are capped at 100Mbps on most plans, but the most expensive option caps speeds at 250Mbps.

We like that Belong’s mobile plans all come with unlimited data banking, which sets it apart from most other Telstra MVNOs that typically offer data banking up to 500GB.

See more: Belong’s plans

Woolworths Mobile

Unlike most other mobile providers on the Telstra network, Woolworths Mobile gives you the option of getting a new phone with your plan, though it currently only offers the Samsung Galaxy S23 .

If you don’t need a new phone, Woolworths Mobile offers SIM-only plans and prepaid plans, too. All plans come with unlimited calls and texts, and you can bank any of your unused data up to a maximum of 500GB. 5G access isn’t included as standard with Woolworths Mobile, but a free 5G trial is currently available on select plans.

An excellent perk of Woolworths Mobile is that it includes 10% off a grocery shop in store every month. That means if you were to get the cheapest plan at AU$25 a month, and you spend AU$250 on groceries in a month, the plan would essentially be free.

Numobile takes a fresh approach to mobile plans – along with SIM-only plans, it also offers refurbished mobiles on a plan, as well as subscriptions to brand-new devices such as the iPhone 14 . Currently, only iPhones are available from Numobile.

Numobile’s subscription plans are essentially akin to renting the phone, and the lease period can last for 24 or 36 months. They’re SIM-free, so you’ve got the option of leasing the phone and getting your SIM plan from Numobile, or going with another telco entirely. After your subscription period has finished, you can choose to upgrade to a newer device.

If your main motivation to join Numbile is to save money, we recommend comparing the cost of Numobile’s subscription plans to those of other telcos such as Optus and Vodafone before signing up. While Numobile is almost always going to be cheaper than Telstra, you can sometimes find cheaper deals with Vodafone if it’s discounted its handsets.

See more: Numobile’s plans

You might know Superloop for its NBN plans, but the provider also offers mobile plans on the Telstra network. All of Superloop’s mobile plans are prepaid and renew every 30 days, which we consider much better than a 28-day cycle offered by some telcos.

You’ve got the option of bundling your internet with Superloop’s mobile plans, which will give you a AU$5 discount if you bundle your broadband with one mobile service. Before bundling your mobile and internet with any provider, we strongly recommend comparing the best NBN plans with the best SIM-only plans , to ensure you’re getting a genuinely good deal.

Like most other Telstra MVNOs, Superloop offers unlimited national calls and texts to standard numbers, and unused data banking up to 500GB.

See more: Superloop’s plans

Exetel is owned by Superloop, and their mobile plans are fairly similar. Like Superloop, all of Exetel’s mobile plans are prepaid and come with a 30-day expiry, with the option of auto-recharges available.

We rate Exetel as one of the best NBN providers on the market, and it gives you the option of bundling your mobile and internet plans together. Before doing so, though, we recommend comparing plans to ensure you’re getting the best deal possible.

We’ve spotted Exetel offering double data deals on select mobile plans, so keep an eye out for these offers if you want to get more value for money out of an Exetel mobile plan.

Aldi Mobile offers prepaid plans that come with a 30-day expiry. Its mobile plans come with unlimited data rollover, and in order to keep any of your unused data, you just need to recharge within 24 hours of expiry and choose a plan of equal or higher value.

Aldi Mobile is unique in that it also offers family mobile plans. These plans offer shared data, and can include up to six different services on the same plan. So, if you’ve got a phone you’re happy with and you’re looking to save some money, it could be a great option using the Telstra network.

Mate offers mobile plans with parts of Telstra’s 4G and 5G network coverage, and thanks to its current offer, you can trial any plan for just AU$1 . That makes it a really appealing option if you’re looking to test out a cheaper plan on the Telstra network for the first time.

As with most other Telstra MVNOs, Mate has all your basics covered including unlimited talk and text to standard numbers in Australia, and data banking up to 500GB. Mate also offers NBN plans, and bundling your mobile and internet together will knock AU$10 off your monthly bill. As always, compare your options before bundling together services.

Aside from its excellent introductory offer, we love that Mate is Australian owned and offers an Australian-based support team. It’s also got a largely positive rating on Product Review , which is quite an impressive feat.

More is an Australian-owned telco that’s part-owned by Commonwealth Bank. In fact, CommBank customers can get access to exclusive offers from More, such as discounted mobile and NBN plans.

It’s worth noting that most of More’s mobile plans cap your 4G download speeds at 100Mbps, while its most expensive plan caps speeds at 250Mbps for both 4G and 5G usage. Some of the telco’s mobile plans include a free 5G network trial.

You can bank up to 500GB of unused data on More’s mobile plans, and get the usual unlimited calls and texts to standard numbers in Australia. Some plans also include calls to selected countries.

Tangerine is an Australian-owned telco offering much the same proposition as other providers on the Telstra network: unlimited standard calls and texts within Australia, data banking up to 500GB and a 5G network trial included with select plans.

Tangerine also caps the download speed on its 4G mobile plans at 100Mbps, while its most premium plan, which includes 5G network coverage, has downloads capped at 250Mbps.

How trade-in works

Coverage details.

Mobile device coverage depends on where you are, the device you are using and whether it has an external antenna attached.

5G coverage

The 5G symbol appearing on the device represents that 5G is available on the network in the vicinity of the device. Speed and performance, and whether a 5G device uses the available 5G depends on prevailing radio conditions at your location and whether the device is actively downloading or uploading data. Outside of 5G coverage, 5G devices will continue to use our fastest available 4G, or 3G where 4G is unavailable.

Outdoor coverage

The Telstra mobile coverage checks have been created using tools that predict the likely areas of outdoor coverage. We have not individually tested every particular location within the identified outdoor coverage areas for coverage. This means that while the footprint of outdoor coverage for a particular location is generally accurate, there may be some areas described as being within the outdoor coverage area proximate to locations searched where your device will not work. This is a common characteristic of wireless systems. For example, actual outdoor coverage could be degraded or not existent in specific locations due to certain geographic features or as a result of the device used. Geographic features that may reduce or block outdoor coverage could include formations, such as hills and mountains or even trees.

Indoor coverage

The Telstra mobile coverage checks also provide an indication of the availability of indoor coverage at locations searched, where this is predicted. This is as accurate as we can make it based on what we know. Indoor coverage is highly variable and there may be locations where indoor coverage is indicated, but your device will not work due to local building density, physical structures and building materials. For example, the following things may reduce or block indoor coverage: basements, lifts, underground car parks, concrete buildings, tunnels and road cuttings, steel framing and metallic window film. Devices such as the Telstra Mobile Smart Antenna may assist to improve indoor coverage where it would otherwise not occur.

Offshore coverage

Factors beyond Telstra's control such as the weather, tides, sea conditions and your antenna installation (type and height of antenna above sea level) can significantly influence the actual user experience of coverage, data speed and performance in offshore locations. Public mobile networks must not be relied upon as a primary method of emergency communication at sea.

Calls to standard Australian numbers are at a pay-as-you-go rate of $1 per minute, charged in 1 minute blocks or part thereof. SMS/MMS to standard Australian numbers are charged at a pay-as-you-go rate of 25c for SMS and 55c for MMS per message sent, per recipient.

No excess data charges in Australia

Once you exceed your included data allowance, your speed will be capped at 1.5Mbps, and slowed further in busy periods. This means it is not suitable for HD video or high speed applications and means that some webpages, videos, social media content and files may take longer to load, but you can still stream video in standard definition, listen to music, browse the web and access social media, even if the experience is slower sometimes.

No Excess Data Charges – Existing Services

Any existing shareable services on your account with Extra Data will be automatically migrated to No Excess Data Charges when you take up this plan.

International Roaming

To use your service overseas, you can purchase an International Day Pass at $5 per day in New Zealand, or $10 per day in more than 70 eligible countries. Day Pass includes 200MB of data to use per day as well as unlimited talk and text. Usage expires daily based on AEST. If you go over your 200MB, we'll add an additional 500MB for $10 for use within 31 days. A Day Pass is triggered whenever a call is made or received, an SMS is sent or if any mobile data is used in an eligible country.

If you’re travelling to a country where our International Day Pass isn’t available, you can still use your device at pay-as-you-go rates.

For more info  View eligible destinations .

Annual Price Review

Our mobile and data plans include an annual price review and may increase in line with CPI in July each year. CPI measures household inflation and is released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. We'll use the CPI for full year to March quarter and any increase will be rounded to the nearest dollar and occurs within your July billing cycle. We'll let you know before any changes take effect.

How much storage do I need?

Consider your usage.

How much storage you’ll need depends on how you use your phone or tablet. If you mainly use it for web browsing and checking social media, you may only need up to 64GB of storage.

If you’re a casual user who likes to take a few photos, you might need a bit more storage – say up to 128GB.

But if you take a lot of photos and videos, or play lots of graphic-intensive games with your phone or tablet, you’re more likely to need a larger amount of storage – say 256GB or more.

Here’s an example

As a rough guide, a 128GB phone or tablet on average can store approximately:

  • 1 hour of Ultra HD video
  • 1,000 songs
  • 100 apps and games

Again, this is a rough guide only and will vary depending on the size of the files, apps and games being stored.

It’s worth noting that if you max out your storage, your phone or tablet is likely to run a bit slower. For that reason, many people prefer to opt for more storage.

This isn’t suitable for HD video or high-speed applications and means that some webpages, videos, social media content and files may take longer to load. However, you can still stream video in standard definition, listen to music, browse the web and access social media, even if the experience is slower sometimes. Heavy data users (users in the top 1% of all data users) may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods.

Bundle Plans

What are bundle plans.

Bundle plans are a great way to save money and get everyone in your business connected. From August, there will be two kinds of Bundle Plans available: Mobile Bundle Plans and Data Bundle Plans.

You’ll need to have at least one service on your account on an Essential and Premium plan to take up a Bundle Plan.

How many Bundle Plans can I add to my account?

If you’re an Upfront plan customer, you can add up to 5 Bundle Plans in total, regardless of the number of Essential and Premium Plans you have active on your account. If you’re not an Upfront plan customer, you can add 5 Bundle Plans to each Essential and Premium mobile or data plan you have active on your account.

Mobile Bundle Plans

Mobile Bundle Plans let you add employees’ phones to your account so you can all share data and enjoy access to a data allowance with uncapped download speeds on Australia’s best network. They’re a great value alternative to Pre-Paid plans.

Data Bundle Plans

Data Bundle Plans let you add data to employees’ business tablets or mobile broadband devices at a great price, and manage them on your business account. They’re great for businesses who work on the go or across multiple within Australia’s largest network.

What is Consumer Price Index (CPI)?

CPI is the rate of inflation and is calculated annually by collecting prices for goods and services that households buy. It is measured as the rate of change of those prices, which typically rise over time.

How does Telstra determine what the CPI rate will be?

Telstra doesn't determine CPI. We take the annual result as determined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

We’ll use the CPI rate released by ABS for the 12 months to the March quarter and any increase will be rounded to the nearest dollar.

Eligible destinations

Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, USA and UK.

No lock-in plan

No lock-in means our plans can change.

Our month-to-month mobile plans with no lock-in contracts give you the flexibility to change your plan size once a month, to suit your data needs.

Because these plans aren’t locked in, it also means that from time to time we may make changes to your plan price and/or inclusions (such as data allowance), or we may move you to a new plan (which may cost more).

However, if we reasonably think that a change is likely to have a more than minor detrimental impact on you, we'll tell you at least 30 days before making it. If you don't like the change, you can change your plan size or cancel your plan at any time. If you cancel, you’ll just need to pay out your device, accessories and add-ons as a one-off payment when you cancel.

Speed slowed to a maximum of 1.5Mbps

When you exceed your data allowance in Australia, you can continue to access data, but your speed will be slowed to a maximum of 1.5Mbps. This isn’t suitable for HD video or high-speed applications, and some web pages, social media content and files may take longer to load.

Your speed will depend on a range of factors including your device, location, user numbers and download sources, and may be slowed further during busy periods. Heavy data users (users in the top 1% of all data users) may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods. For personal use on a smartphone in Australia only and the FairPlay Policy applies.

Share mobile data amongst your team.

Enjoy the flexibility of data that’s shareable with other eligible services on the same account.

Telstra business NBN plans review

Telstra NBN business plans come at a premium price but include some great features and a full suite of support options.

Telstra

We may earn money when you click our links.

Anyone familiar with Telstra plans—business or residential, mobile or internet—likely knows that they tend to attract a premium monthly price. Telstra business NBN is no exception to this rule with the most expensive comparable plans in our database. Still, that extra monthly cost comes with great perks, including a static IP address and a modem-router with 4G backup . It’ll take a couple of years of connection to avoid the modem-router repayment fee, though, and some of the other features cost extra, too.

Opt for a Telstra business NBN plan if you don’t mind paying more for perks and a wide range of support options, but there are better value alternatives out there if your main concern is price and speed.

Telstra business NBN plans value for money

Telstra has made a name for itself by offering speedy residential NBN plans with unlimited data , albeit at a premium price, and that trend is no different for the provider’s NBN business plans. Interestingly, the cheapest Telstra business internet plan isn’t an NBN offering; instead, it’s a rare ADSL2+ plan.

Graphic of a woman comparing NBN plans

Whether you want more speed, better customer service, or just a better deal on your home internet , you can find everything you need to know about NBN plans by following the link below.

In terms of our database, the Telstra Unlimited Business Internet plan was the only business ADSL2+ offering at the time of writing, and one of only two in our comparison engine across business and residential plans.

For not a whole lot more per month, you can get the Telstra Business NBN Unlimited Data plan, though, which is typically priced at $110 per month and comes with 50Mbps typical download speeds during business hours.

While those download speeds are great, the pricing is less desirable and beaten by every other business NBN provider in our database for typical monthly pricing. The only proviso there is that Aussie Broadband offers ever-so-slightly slower download speeds (49Mbps), while iiNet and TPG offer some data-capped plans (although they also have cheaper unlimited offerings, too). You’re better off looking at the Optus Internet Everyday – NBN plan, the iiNet Business NBN 50 Value plan or the TPG NBN 50 L Business Bundle if you’re after a cheaper plan with the same speeds and similar inclusions.

For comparison, below is a daily updating list of popular business NBN 50 plans with unlimited data from our comparison engine.

Illustration of Laptop and Modem

Want to know which NBN providers scored top marks in our analysis? Follow the link below to find the best providers for value, speed and support in Australia.

The only other business NBN alternative Telstra currently offers is the Business NBN Unlimited Data + Premium Speed plan, which typically costs $140 per month for 100Mbps typical business-hours speeds.

It’s an identical story for Telstra’s business NBN 100 plan as it is for its NBN 50 plan above: you’ll have to scroll to the bottom of our comparison engine to find this plan with typical monthly pricing. Optus and Exetel offer the same 100Mbps business-hours download speeds for a noticeably cheaper monthly fee, with Aussie Broadband also cheaper and just behind at 99Mbps. Taking the full package into account, we’d advise going with the Optus Internet Everyday Fast – NBN plan over Telstra’s NBN 100 alternative.

For comparison, check out the daily list of popular business 100 plans below from our comparison engine (all of which have unlimited data).

Telstra business NBN features and perks

If you’re a business that’s purely concerned with dollars-to-data value, there are more cost-effective alternatives to a Telstra business NBN plan. That said, if you fancy a business NBN plan with some great inclusions, Telstra puts big ticks in the core boxes on the perks front. All of Telstra’s business internet plans come with included phone line rental as well as local and national calls but, strangely, you have to pay extra for the actual landline phone.

As is the trend with business NBN plans, all of Telstra’s business NBN plans come with a static IP address, which makes it easier to configure remote access, more reliable communication, server hosting and virtual private network (VPN) connections .

Additionally, Telstra also bundles a preconfigured, self-installed Telstra Business Smart Modem with 4G mobile backup. While this modem-router has a $0 upfront cost, you’ll have to pay a $216 fee if you cancel after the first month. This device fee diminishes the longer you stay connected. Stick around for 24 months, and you don’t have to pay anything extra for the Telstra Business Smart Modem.

One of the other things we like about the Telstra business NBN plans is transparency around speeds. This starts with expected download and upload speeds (the latter is rare), but you’ll also be offered maximum speed estimates based on the NBN technology servicing your business address, too.

Telstra business NBN customer support

After you’ve first signed up, Telstra also offers a dedicated connection manager to assist with any questions or issues while you get connected. Once you’re up and running, there are self-guided support steps on the Telstra website for troubleshooting issues. There’s also a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Telstra offers a full range of support options, so you can pick your preference. Get in touch digitally via Twitter, Facebook or online chat service. Alternatively, visit a Telstra store for in-person support (you can also book an appointment) or call 132 000 for phone support 9:00am to 7:00pm AEST Monday to Friday.

If you have connection issues, you can contact Telstra for basic tech support or pay extra for Telstra Business Tech Services. Telstra describes this optional support service as a tailored concierge experience, and while it includes 24/7 support for Telstra and non-Telstra tech, it does cost an additional $60 per month.

How to sign up for Telstra business NBN plans

Click ‘Go’ next to the Telstra business NBN plan you like the look of below to be taken to the Telstra website. Enter your address to confirm eligibility and check out the maximum speeds available to your business address. Click ‘Buy now’ on the plan to confirm your selection, then follow the sign-up steps.

Telstra price rise delivers bumper profit

T elco giant Telstra has reaped the benefits of rising prices, posting a bumper profit and strong growth in its mobile business with chief executive Vicki Brady not ruling out a further price hike this year.

The Sydney-based company on Thursday posted a $1 billion net profit for the six months to December 31, up 11.5 per cent year-on-year, while underlying earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) were up 3.1 per cent to $4 billion. Total revenue edged up 1.2 per cent to $11.7 billion.

The company cut its profit forecast however after its usually lucrative enterprise unit fell flat.

Announcing a “detailed review” of the underperforming enterprise business, the telco said it now expects between $8.2 billion and $8.3 billion in underlying earnings for the 2024 financial year, down from its guidance of as much as $8.4 billion previously.

Brady lauded the telco’s mobile performance, which she said was driven by more customers, higher revenues per customer and cost discipline.

“We know the external environment is putting pressure on consumers and businesses, and we will continue to invest to deliver connectivity that is reliable, resilient and secure, and offer plans that are simple and deliver the services and choices our customers need,” Brady said on Thursday.

The company attracted some criticism last May when it raised the prices of its postpaid mobile plans by 7 per cent, in line with inflation but above analyst expectations, while lifting prepaid prices by 20 per cent.

The changes didn’t put a dent in its customer numbers, however, with Telstra growing its mobile revenue by 13 per cent for the half.

Telstra reviews its plan pricing annually and Brady did not rule out another rise this year.

“It’s obviously not appropriate for me to talk bout future pricing decisions on mobile,” she said. “We’re very pleased with the business, and I am really pleased to see more customers choosing Telstra.”

The company’s network applications and services [NAS] business disappointed, seeing its sales fall across its calling applications and professional services.

Revenues at the division, which includes network security, cloud services, unified communications and industry services, were hit by competition and technology change, and Brady said the unit “is clearly a long way from where we need it to be”.

“We are undertaking a full review of the products and services we provide within our enterprise business, and particularly our NAS portfolio, to make sure they both meet the current and future needs of our customers, and create shareholder value,” said Brady.

Jarden analyst Tom Beadle said that the results were strong overall particularly for Telstra’s mobile unit.

“While the lowering of the range may disappoint, we highlight that the weakness in NAS and 1H (first half) miss means the market could be underestimating the momentum in Telstra’s key mobile and InfraCo fixed businesses... And highlight the decision to lift the dividend appears to show confidence that momentum in these businesses can continue”.

Brady added that Telstra gained tens of thousands of new customers as a result of November’s Optus outage, which impacted some 10 million Optus customers and felled rail networks, small businesses and hospital communications.

Telstra added 63,000 net new postpaid customers across the six-month period.

“In terms of the Optus outage, I would characterise its impact as similar to prior events,” Brady said referencing the Optus data breach in late 2022.

“We would estimate that impact to be maybe in the tens of thousands [of customers]. To be honest, we had a very good December quarter… And in terms of the competitive dynamic, it’s brought front of mind for customers that it’s all about resilience and reliability, whether in our personal lives or in our businesses.”

Telstra will pay a fully franked dividend of 9 cents per share, up 5.9 per cent year-on-year, to be paid March 28.

Telstra shares dropped slightly, last trading at $3.93, giving the company a market valuation of about $45.4 billion.

Moscow's High Rise Bohemia: The International Business District With No Business

business premium mobile plan telstra

  • Written by Dario Goodwin
  • Published on March 17, 2015

The Moscow International Business Center (Also known as Moskva-City ) was meant to be Russia ’s ticket into the Western world. First conceived in 1992, the district at the edge of Moscow’s city center is intended to contain up to 300,000 inhabitants, employees and visitors at any given moment and, when completed, will house over 4 million square meters of prime retail, hotel and office space to create what the Russian government desired most from this project: an enormous financial district that could dwarf London’s Canary Wharf and challenge Manhattan . Twenty three years later though, Moscow-based real estate company Blackwood estimates that as much as 45% of this new space is entirely vacant and rents have plummeted far below the average for the rest of Moscow. The only press Moskva-City is attracting is for tenants like the High Level Hostel , a hostel catering to backpackers and other asset-poor tourists on the 43rd floor of the Imperia Tower , with prices starting at $25.50 for a bed in a six-person room. This is not the glittering world of western high finance that was envisioned back in the post-Soviet 90s; but what has it become instead?

business premium mobile plan telstra

As one might expect from a project of this sheer ambition, Moskva-City has a troubled past. The economic crash in 2008 hit Russia hard enough to evict the previous Mayor of Moscow , Yuri Luzhkov, who had been a cheerleader for the district, and replace him with the considerably more austere Sergei Sobyanin, who famously declared that the whole idea was an “urban planning mistake.” But as recently as 2013, the Wall Street Journal was triumphantly claiming that Moskva-City had risen from the dead, citing 80% occupancy rates and glowing quotes from industry insiders claiming that Moskva-City was the "place to be." Driven by record highs in oil prices, Moscow looked poised to become the next Dubai .

Instead, Moscow is now in the grip of an economic winter prompted by western sanctions and drops in the price of oil. The large financial groupings that Moskva-City was meant to shelter have been warned off by their inability to issue credit to international markets, for example - but Moskva-City isn’t just an Empire State Building left empty by the Great Depression.

A fundamental problem that is holding Moskva back compared to the rest of Moscow is the simple fact that currently, getting to Moskva-City is nigh-on impossible at peak hours. Moscow has long been plagued with transport problems, ever since the government failed to match the dramatic expansion of the city with a dramatic expansion of the transport system after the Second World War. Despite being only 2.5 miles from the Kremlin , Moskva-City is only just inside the ring road that bounds the city center and which acts as the only real transport link to it (and as a result, is clogged by construction vehicles.) A railway and metro hub has been finished, but so far only runs a one-stop shuttle service to the closest Metro station that is actually integrated with the rest of Moscow Metro. The isolation of the outer districts is a large, negative part of the Moscow psyche, and it’s not surprising that this is driving away the globetrotting financial elite this project was meant to attract.

business premium mobile plan telstra

The project is managed by architectural practice No.6, which is a constituent part of the large Moscow based practice Mosproject-2 , which is itself a public corporation headed up by Mikhail Vasilyevich Posokhin, who is apparently the “People’s Architect of Russia.” Despite all this state involvement, the project has still managed to become bogged down in bureaucratic infighting - each lot is managed and developed individually, which has led to developers competing for occupants by slashing rates.

Much has been written about the way modern financial districts and towers that inhabit them can be unwelcoming, forbidding or even hostile by design, but the skyscrapers of Moskva-City seem even less friendly than usual. The site - a former stone quarry, chosen out of necessity as the only place in the city center where a new district could be plausibly constructed - is isolated both physically and visually, leaving the cluster a stark anomaly on the city skyline. Even the names seem more imposing than optimistic now: Imperia, City of Capitals , Steel Peak.

The Mercury City Tower , so far the tallest completed building on the site, is officially “a strong reference to Russian constructivism, [which] gives the tower a strong vertical thrust similar to the one found in New York's Chrysler building .” It would be easy to criticize the Mercury City Tower for picking ‘inspirations’ that are so totally opposed to each other - The Chrysler building the defining emblem of American pre-crash confidence and Constructivism created with the express purpose (especially architecturally) of extending the Bolshevik revolution into a social revolution - but the way they smash those two inspirations together is almost beautifully ironic.

business premium mobile plan telstra

Even though the High Level Hostel is less an asset to a financial district than it is a PR problem, it’s been a huge success since opening in September, already ranked 27th out of 766 hostels in Moscow by TripAdvisor. According to the management agency for Moskva-City , 58% of the new occupant signings this year have been non-financial, including a number of small to medium size businesses. Other areas of office space have been occupied by a restaurant and a culinary school, while another space has been redeveloped into a 6,000 seat theater.

While Moskva-City is failing to be a financial district that could take on the world, it’s inadvertently becoming a humanized space catering to the very groups that the Russian economic miracle left behind. Taking advantage of rents lower than the rest of Moscow , the world class facilities and the sheer desperation of the developers, the humanization of Moskva-City could well create the world’s first high-rise bohemia.

Of course, these are not spaces designed for a community, or even for people: these are spaces designed for money, and there’s little scope for changing something that seems so baked into the design of Moskva-City . The High Level Hostel is trading off of the irony of being a hostel in a banking tower, but it’s perfectly possible that at some point people will no longer find this joke funny (especially in a building that seems hostile to the very idea of humor). The isolation of Moskva, even though it allowed this community to spring up in the first place, is just as detrimental to a humanized district as it is to a financial one: even bohemians need to move around the city, or the district risks becoming a black-spot instead of a hot-spot.

Moskva-City’s isolation won’t last forever. The end of construction will open the roads up to traffic, and plans to properly integrate the spur lines of the Metro in this area into the wider system are well under way. The integration of the district will inevitably push up rents, and the Russian economy will eventually boom once again. When that happens, Moskva-City is prime territory to be reconquered by the giants of international finance, and it seems unlikely that the municipal or national governments would want to step in to protect this accidental district. For now, though, the towers capture perfectly this moment of Russia ’s schizophrenic understanding of its place in the world.
