A girl trying to find something

There are 2 ways you can find a 2-minute speech topic that would suit perfectly for your next speech.

First is when you go about doing your research and then ideating or selecting a topic that is more in line with your purpose of giving the speech.

The second and the most popular way to find a 2-minute speech topic is to go on to google and type 2-minute speech topics. You shouldn’t be shocked at the number of topics the internet has to offer to you. You might not even have to go anywhere else, jump on to the speech topics section if you want to get straight into selecting a 2-minute speech topic for yourself.

Researching for your 2-minute speech topic

So, you chose not to select one of the many topics available on the internet? That’s great! Want to know why?

1. It would help you come up with a topic that is more personalized and less common.

When you come up with the topic yourself, you move from the very broad topics available online and can find a topic that caters more to your area of interest or understanding.

2. You would be able to narrow down on a topic of your choice or area of interest.

3. it would help you gain an understanding of the topic from various points of view.

In the initial ideation stage, as you try to research the topic and find a topic for your 2-minute speech, you would be exposed to various political, environmental, or social perspectives of the same topic which would further help you to not only narrow down your topic but also understand your topic from various points of view, thus helping you ace a question-and-answer round.

Process of Finding a topic

Before beginning straight up by researching your topic, there are a couple of things that you might have to take a look into which will help you navigate through the next step (that is researching for your topic). These include:

1. Understanding the event for which you’d be giving the speech

Understanding the event or occasion where you will be giving the speech is important as it would give you a brief idea of what is expected in terms of the content and tone of your speech .

So, for instance, if you are giving a speech at a conference, it would have a more formal tonality to it as compared to a speech that you might present at your best friend’s wedding which would usually be filled with a lot of slang, humor, and casual tone.

2. Understanding your audience

The next thing you should try to find a little more clarity on is your possible audience. Understanding who the majority of your audience will comprise will help you in finding a topic that would be more in line with their broad interest, thus attracting them to listen to your speech right from the very beginning .

3. Your interests and knowledge

Yet another thing that you must take into consideration besides what the event and audience expect from you is your interest in the topic. Having a tad bit of understanding of the speech topic you would want to dive into can also help you in navigating through your research better.

4. Your purpose for giving the speech

Establish your purpose for giving the speech even before you start researching. The reason is very simple, you’d be able to understand which kind of a topic you should focus on depending on the purpose of your speech.

Do you plan on providing the audience with detailed information on the topic? Or are you trying to sell your view or product to the audience within these 2 minutes?

In both cases, your topic, as well as the structure of speech, would be very different.

Once you have an idea of your audience, your interests, and your knowledge areas, you can then move on to researching your topic.

A simple google search can be a good starting point.

Take the help of news articles, journals, blogs, and much more to narrow down and come up with a 2-minute speech topic that you feel most excited about!

Once you have decided on your topic for the speech, the next step is to come up with the speech itself or the script.

For this, you’ll have to understand the approx number of words you will be comfortable adding to your speech so as to not exceed the time limit of 2-minutes.

Next, you can go about the usual “ introduction, main body, and conclusion ” structure for structuring your script.

It isn’t necessary for you to frame the entire speech word for word, you can also frame it in a pointer format if that is more convenient for you.

Person giving speech

How do you start a 2-minute speech?

As there isn’t much time in your hand, presenting detailed opening lines for a 2-minute speech would mean that you would have to cut down on your main content.

Instead, you can start by giving a very quick introduction like “Hi I am Nisha and I will be talking about the adverse effects of sleep deprivation today with you.”

You can also use other more fun and engaging ways to begin your speech and there are tons of ways you can do it. Check out the list below to find examples of a few:

1. Rhetorical questions

Rhetorical questions are questions wherein you want to provoke the audience to think and not to come up with any specific answer . An example of the same is given below.

So from a glance, do I look like marriage material? Nina Donovan

Jokes and humor are almost always appreciated by the audience provided it isn’t even slightly derogatory or demeaning to anyone. Opening your 2-minute speech with a joke can in fact be a good attention grabber that would also not take up a lot of your speech time .

Example of a joke used as an opening line:

Do you know when brown kids get slapped? Every brown birthday party. Hasan Minhaj

3. Statistics or figures

What is the best way to make someone understand the reality of any situation you ask? Figures, numbers, or stats!

Because when the audience sees the number in front of them, they can no longer be in denial or in their own world of assumptions. Hence, using statistics in your opening lines would definitely help you reach your goal of spreading awareness (if that is what your purpose is).

Suicide happens to be one of the leading causes of death in United states with approximately one indivdiual dying to suicide every 11 minutes. The question is why are we still overlooking this grave issue?

To know more about effective opening lines, check out our post on 50 speech opening lines .

Following your brief introduction, as you dive into your topic, there are a couple of things that you must keep in your mind, they are:

  • Stick to only one takeaway . Having many takeaways might not help you effectively reach the audience.
  • Try to add short stories only if you plan on adding a story to your speech. Make sure that it isn’t taking up a huge chunk of your speech time.

How do you end your 2-minute speech?

In short speeches, your ending or conclusion is very important. It needs to be impactful. You can either summarize your speech in a couple of seconds or you can re-establish your takeaway at this point in your speech. You can try to end with a powerful quote or try to motivate your audience to take some action .

An example of asking the audience to take an action is,

“So as we reach the end of the speech on effects of sleep deprivation, I’d want you to go back home and think to yourself, is browsing for  a couple of more minutes really necessary over your precious sleep?”

2-minute speech on Brain Drain

Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadela, Leena Nair, and Paraag Agarwal what do they all have in common?

You probably guessed it right! They are the CEOs of some of the biggest companies in the world but there is yet another commonality that they have. They are all Indian Origin CEOs who gained their initial education from some of the top colleges in India to hold such exceptional positions in world-renowned companies now.

If this isn’t a good example of brain drain, I’m not sure what is. Brain drains, a concept that is very common to Indians when we lose some of the smartest people of our country to better opportunities abroad. These companies not only offer the individuals with better work ethos and environment but also provide them with a handsome paycheck and add to that the amount of appreciation they receive for the work they chip in. Something that is either too rare or alien to the Indian work environment.

But the scenario in India is changing. With the coming of start-up culture in India where the employees are given just as much priority as the company’s clients If the companies encourage such open and collaborative culture where there is a fair opportunity for growth provided to all the employees, we might be able to see some considerable fall in the problem of brain drain in India.

Importance of education 2-minute speech

Do you remember how in school they asked us to prove whether the two figures were triangles when you could easily have concluded that they indeed were triangles just by looking at them?

So then why do we say that education is important?

For starters, to be able to live a decent life, the basic requirement for any job is for you to possess at least a diploma or degree. Apart from the theoretical learning that we get through education, there are plenty of other skills and experiences we are exposed to like broadening our perspective by interacting with peers, enhancing public speaking skills, understanding the basics of how the world functions are it the laws and rights that the individual possesses or the understanding of geographical division and economic conditions in the society. Education helps in enhancing the capacities, attitudes, interests, urges, and needs of the individual. And hence when the student or individual is deprived of education, it isn’t just the theoretical knowledge that they miss out on but they also miss out on having a holistic development of themselves. This is what makes education very important in everyone’s life.

Interesting Public Speaking Topics

Public speaking provides a unique opportunity for speakers to share their opinions, experiences, and knowledge in an interesting way. Interesting public speaking topics can range from controversial to informative, from historical to present day, from fun to serious. When selecting a topic , it’s important to consider the interests of your audience as well as what you can provide appropriate supporting information on. Controversial or opinion-based topics can be engaging, but it’s important that all sides of the argument are presented fairly and no one in the audience is disparaged or excluded. Additionally, providing both sides of an argument here helps inform your audience and may even expose them to different perspectives. Informative topics are great for teaching audiences about specific subjects or movements, while delivering the information in an entertaining and interesting way. Explain how each piece fits into the bigger picture and build suspense throughout your talk. Additionally, if you have personal stories associated with the topic, by all means include them; these stories help make your presentation more memorable and engaging for your audience. Historical topics provide excellent fodder for a public speaking engagement; beyond teaching about specific events that occurred in our past, you can also shed light on important dates in history or major events of the past century. Providing context helps bring to life lessons from those points in time that still influence us today. Current events are also great platforms for public speaking – highlighting what is happening now provides a powerful connection between speaker and audience as everyone is probably equally (or almost equally) knowledgeable about it—and if not? You get to teach them! When presenting current events as your topic, make sure you use up-to-date sources and highlight any compliance changes or other political matters that could affect your audience directly. Now let’s move on to discuss current events as an interesting public speaking topic…

Current Events

When it comes to public speaking, current events make for a highly engaging topics. Depending on the agenda and purpose of the speech, current events can be used either to inform and educate the audience or to galvanize support and motivate action. When dealing with current events, speakers should strive to remain impartial while bringing forth both sides of the argument. For example, if the event is to discuss international trade policy in light of recent tariffs disputes between major trading partners, speakers should present both advantages and disadvantages of increased tariffs. Understanding the core issue at hand without commenting on the efficacy of each side’s policies is key in order to maintain an impartial outlook. Similarly, when addressing a complex social issue like discrimination against minority groups or income equality, it is important to provide a sober and nuanced overview of the issue while ensuring that all sides are properly represented. Naturally, as certain issues become particularly salient in the public debate , more detailed analysis may be necessary in order to provide a full account of the situation. With that said, presenters must always exercise caution when discussing hot-button topics so as not to alienate any portion of their audience. Finally, speakers may choose to conclude their discussion by proposing a plan for action or connecting their topic with wider implications for society. As such, choosing current events as one’s topic allows for an opportunity to create real change that can have tangible benefits for members of their audience. With this potential impact in mind, let us now explore creative ideas that are just as interesting but offer a different approach.

The 2-Minute Speaking Practice: Recording Myself to Stop Saying “Like” All the Time

I am a Chinese teacher and a life-long language learner. I enjoy exploring various ways of acquiring a new language as an aid to know myself better, and then applying new techniques to facilitate my students’ learning.

I was so hesitant to kick off my French learning but the 2-minutes speaking practice of the  Fluent in 3 Months Challenge  came to my rescue. It’s a strategy that has effectively boosted my confidence.

Emily is my student. She enjoys challenging herself using the language whether it’s practicing pronouncing the character or correcting her grammar. To tackle Emily’s struggle with filler words and Chinglish, I’ve encouraged her to give the 2-minutes speaking practice a try.

We had fun practicing together as a teacher and a student, as well as friends to support and inspire each other.

This is our story.

Table of contents

Emily: “i was trapped by chinglish”, ty: “french can be impossible if you don’t know what you possibly want”, quick response, when you don’t know a word…, learn to get out of being stuck and feel more confident, phase 1: fun yet terrifying, phase 2: i am on fire, stage 3: inviting others to join the practice, some tips for those who would love to give it a try:.

My parents sent me to a Chinese immersion school when I was just 2. When I first started learning Chinese, I felt so forced to do it,  “Why couldn’t I just learn English?”  It felt difficult, and I had no confidence in myself.

But after a few years, I got used to it and slowly began enjoying it and gaining more confidence in my ability to speak Chinese.

However, there were errors that I just kept repeating, and never knew how to correct them. I used Chinglish when I was having trouble with simple Chinese words because I felt dumb to not know easy expressions. Also, I just couldn’t stop saying the catchphrase  “like” .

At the time, I felt hopeless,  “I tried” , I would say,  “Why can’t I just give up.”  But to my realization, I just had to practice, and pay more attention to what I was saying.

There were so many things about French that have long terrified me, such as listening and conjugations. I didn’t know which one to start with but I did know that the structured textbook-based courses didn’t seem engaging enough to me.

My confusion soon escalated to the fear and anxiety of “I can’t make any progress” till one day I figured out my two very motivations to learn French.

Firstly, I am so keen to communicate with my in-laws who could barely speak any English. Secondly, I simply enjoy exploring what works for me in terms of language learning.

Yes, that is it! I need to experiment with what is fast and intuitive to keep track of my progress. I want to practice speaking French.

That was when all the other fog cleared out.

Why Did We Start This 2-Minute Speaking Practice?

Shannon, the coach from the  Fluent in 3 Months Challenge , encouraged every participant to start an extra oral practice besides the ultimate 15-minute conversation in our target language.

This is how we were advised to go about it:

  • Choose a topic.
  • Prepare for 1 minute.
  • Turn on the camera.
  • Record yourself speaking for 2 minutes.
  • No pause, no redo.

It is a great strategy to simulate real-life conversations or speeches:

As you only have 1 minute to prepare, you are most likely improvising throughout the recording. You need to quickly react to a given topic, to organize your thoughts, to find proper words, etc….

Yes, you can look up the words during the preparation stage but once you click the “record” button, you are on your own.

For language learners, it is just so natural to run out of words and recording forces us to describe the word with simple words that we know. Does it sound familiar to you?

It feels like when traveling to a foreign country, you need to use up every possible vocabulary, in addition to the dramatic body language to make yourself understood.

We need to turn on the camera, no pauses within these two minutes, and no redo.

That means we’ve had to see ourselves get stuck, face our blankness in the middle of a sentence, speak out of it, and eventually feel comfortable thinking and speaking at the same time.

In real life, there is no redo button after all.

Besides mimicking real-life conversation, recording gives us a chance to reflect on what we did well and what we could do better. It is an important chance to recognize our efforts and hard work, as well as our progress!

public speaking topics 2 minutes

At the time of writing this post, I have recorded 45 practice videos and posted them on  my YouTube channel .

How Did It Go?

If you are like me, kind of finished up with the pronunciation stage and have some basic idea of how to conjugate a regular verb into its present tense, trust me, this stage is going to be fun and terrifying.

I didn’t feel confident in talking about my day at this stage because there are so many things happening in one day. There are many emotions, decision-making moments, and descriptions to make. In other words, a lot of things are beyond my capacity, both vocabulary-wise and grammar-wise.

Therefore, the first fun part is that I spent two weeks talking about my favorite colors and animals, my hometown, and the countries that I have been to.

Basically, I chose the topics with a cluster of words that I was familiar with and that didn’t require using sophisticated grammar patterns or sentence structures.

Preparation

Sixty seconds tick away extremely fast. One day, I only managed to compose two sentences, and the other day my brain got stuck at how to conjugate “you are” ( vous êtes ).

In hindsight, what I enjoyed most is to take several deep breaths, then jot down several nouns or verbs that served as hints. If I got lucky, I was able to prepare the first line so perfectly that all my following pauses and “um” would seem clumsy in contrast.

Indeed, it was torture to even think about preparing for this practice.

Before quitting, I tried to explore why I felt uneasy, and what this concerning unmet need was. It turned out that I wanted to be certain about the exact sentences to articulate as opposed to a flickering word.

Also, I was afraid that I couldn’t make any progress compared to yesterday.

My trick to the latter concern is to create a starting line and an ending line, which was inspired by the script FI3M provided in the  Mini Challenge #1 .

In all my 45 videos, I started with “ Coucou tout le monde, c’est ma …… vidéo. ” (“Hello everyone, this is my ……video”).

At least I could tell I got really fluent with that line.

  • It is okay to pause, to be blank, to roll up your eyes for 20 seconds, and it is totally fine to listen to yourself “um” most of the time! I realized that I “um” a lot when speaking both in Chinese (my mother tongue) and English. Also, it is simply so French to  um  and  et .
  • It is such an important phase to cultivate confidence. Before this practice, I would stop after finishing saying “ Bonjour, je m’appelle TY et je suis Chinoise. J’habite en Chine ” (“Hi, my name is TY and I am Chinese. I live in China.”)

a. There is definitely more that I could say but I didn’t feel fluent enough to verbalize anything else. However, I had no choice but to go beyond my catch phrases during this designated 2 minutes.

b. It is a magical feeling to see myself complete these 2 minutes. Even though I must have repeated “I like dogs” at least 10 times, I remember telling myself “probably I could do 5 more seconds tomorrow? Or I can try saying I don’t like snakes?”

  • Recording myself 5 days in a row helps me build up a habit to do more. “Hey, you have already made a one-week streak, why not keep it up next week?”

I love this stage because I was somehow able to connect with my inner self via this practice. Becoming fluent didn’t seem my priority any more, instead, I captured some pure and heart warming happiness that made my days.

Moving to phase 2 was not at my will. I simply ran out of daily topics and talking about my day didn’t seem stimulating. Mini Challenge #2 in our  Fluent in 3 Months Challenge  came right on time! During this mini challenge, I needed to collect as many building blocks as possible e.g. patterns, expressions, etc., and make sentences out of them.

I would paraphrase the French story that I listened to, and at the same time try to use the building blocks I noted from the story. Also, since my main focus was the French Conditional Tense, I encouraged myself to pay attention to it in the video.

Having the story structure in mind helped get rid of my anxiety of not knowing what to say. Therefore, naturally, I used most of my prep time organizing the storyline. I went over the story and reviewed how to contextualize the building blocks.

Later, I iterated my strategy by grouping the story around the key building blocks so that ignoring part of the story would not get in the way of my goal of using those essential expressions.

  • Knowing what to say cleared out all the doubt of “What if I make so many mistakes that nobody understands me?”

As what I wanted to say gets more complicated, I must have made thousands of mistakes. Surprisingly, I was so occupied sorting out the next sentence that my brain didn’t have space to whine about my mistakes.

“Did I conjugate the past tense in the right way? Should I use “en” or “à”? Is it a feminine or a musculin word?” Those doubts came, but got rushed away in the snap of fingers, then another group of worries ebbed, then quickly flew away…

  • Set up a goal and prioritize the relevance. One goal at a time. My goal was to hone my skill in the French conditional tense, then I tried not to blame myself for messing up the future tense or so. I celebrated it when I made a conditional sentence in an almost correct form!

When I started to feel bored and felt stuck at a bottleneck, I invited my student Emily to join me. Here is her story of practicing speaking Chinese:

“During the first week of my 4 week practice, I still repeated my habit of saying ‘like’ and using Chinglish. During the session, TY and I discussed the issue, and decided to record 2 minute videos in Chinese, talking about my day. One minute would be used to prepare, and the other would be used to speak.

The first time I recorded the video was surprisingly awkward, and ended up taking 10 minutes instead of 2. I noticed I said ‘like’ only once, and didn’t use any English at all, which made the video extremely long and choppy.

The second video was generally better. I used 4 minutes instead of ten, and had an easier time speaking compared to the first video. In the second video, I noticed I didn’t say ‘like’, or use any Chinglish which gave me a boost of confidence.

The third video was even better than the second one. I used a total of 2 minutes, and did not use ‘like’ or any Chinglish throughout the video. The last video was the same as the third video.

After recording all the videos, I felt like my fluency had improved immensely in a very short period of time. A strategy that helped me a lot was speaking slowly. While I was recording, I realized speaking slowly helped me focus on what I was saying, and prevented me from saying “‘ike’ or using Chinglish.”

public speaking topics 2 minutes

(We made a list of connector words in Chinese.)

Set a goal: how many times a week? How many weeks do you plan to do it? How many sentences do you want to speak? What’s your priority? etc… Find a good time to record: It is definitely a will-consuming exercising and it is nothing as chill as binge watching tv. If you still find it hard and challenging, please don’t make it the last thing before sleep. You can do it right after your study when the vibe is still up! Speaking slowly will help make sentences more fluent, and consistent. Find a group/partner to share your daily progress Don’t forget to recognize your sparks and celebrate your progress!

-200 first-rate impromptu speech topics

By:  Susan Dugdale  | Last modified: 09-26-2023

  • 50 impromptu topics
  • Yet another 50 random speech topics
  • Then 50 more good impromptu speech topics
  • And finally, 50 funny impromptu speech topics.
  • Plus links to more impromptu speech topics and activities.

The topics cover a broad cross section of subject matter. Use them for table topics at your Toastmaster's Club, with your high school public speaking class as practice for debate competitions or, by yourself.

Some of them are quirky and funny.

Many are deliberately provocative to stimulate a response from both you, the speaker and, your audience!

Others are open-ended or neutral to allow whatever occurs in your mind to fit the topic. You could use those ones to tell a true story; a personal experience, share your personal bloopers, or talk about the meaning of life!

Any one of the 200 will make a good subject for an excellent impromptu speech.

These types of speeches, off the cuff and without much time to prepare, are a great way to polish communication skills. And, most importantly, they're fun!

Are you in a hurry & needing impromptu speech topics ready for use now?

Solve your problem in 5 minutes. Get the first list of 50 impromptu speech topics on this page plus 48 more in an instantly available print-and-go pdf. 50 + 48 = 98 impromptu speech topics!

Quick tips for practicing by yourself:

  • Choose a good topic, one that appeals to you from any one of the lists below.
  • Give yourself a strictly monitored preparation time of no more than one minute in which to note an opening, a couple of main points with examples and, a conclusion.
  • Deliver your speech while timing and, if possible, recording it. Aim to speak for a couple of minutes.
  • When you play the recording back, listen for speech structure, (Is there one?), content and fluency. Each of these combine to create the overall impact of your speech.

If you're using these impromptu speaking topics with a friend or in front of an audience in a classroom, use the same method but skip the recording.

Be sure though to allow enough time to give and receive feedback. Along with regular practice, it's a vital part of improving!

Ideally once you or your class has become more confident, you'll allow less preparation time.

The ultimate goal is to be given a speech topic, do some quick thinking and to begin speaking on the subject coherently and easily, almost immediately.

6 Public Speaking Tips for the First 2 Minutes of Any Presentation

avatar

By   Steve Goldstein

public speaking topics 2 minutes

Some skills intersect with almost all professions. Writing, for instance. Concise, clear, useful writing can take a person far in almost any working environment. Another skill that can lead to either advancement or stasis in a multitude of professions: public speaking.

Whatever you do for a living, there's a professional conference tailored just for you. Speaking—and speaking well—at a conference can create more value for your employer and more value for you in the job market. And let's put internal group meetings, media interviews, client and investor pitches and meetings with boards of directors in the same public speaking bucket with professional conferences. If you're speaking in a room of any size that seems short on chairs, you're speaking in public.

Some of us—make that most of us—who've spoken at conferences and in boardrooms consider ourselves to be passable speakers at best. We might feel that being a strong, effective presence in front of an audience isn't in our genetic makeup or that we're essentially behind-the-scenes people. We are who we are, and we have to work with that.

Andy Gilman, president and CEO of CommCore Consulting Group and one of the canniest media trainers you could hope to meet, won't argue that point. You can’t change your basic character and erase years of habits and phobias overnight, but you can create a mental toolkit that can slowly transform you from a tic-plagued live speaker into a true performer who’s always in sync with an audience.

A fully stocked public speaking toolkit can take years to compile. You have to start somewhere, though, so let’s start with the most important part of any public speech—the opening. If you can get the first one or two minutes of a speech or presentation right, you’re practically home free, unless you fall off a stage (and even then, things are salvageable).

Assume the audience is already on your side—they want to see you succeed. Nobody wants to squirm and cringe empathetically for a flailing public speaker. Your job in the first couple of minutes is to keep the audience on your side and give it little choice but to listen to you.

Here are some of Gilman’s tips, tools and recommendations you can add to your public speaking toolkit, to be used specifically for the first few minutes of any live presentation. These recommendations naturally play into each other—adopting one of them makes adopting the rest easier.

Smile! It seems so obvious, but often you’ll see public speakers grimly delivering their content, despite their intellectual and emotional closeness to it. “People are more likely to receive information from someone who’s happy to deliver it,” says Gilman. Think of something—anything—that makes you smile, even if it has nothing to do with the reason why you’ve found yourself in front of an audience. Draw a smiley face on your notes if you have to, just to remind yourself. When you smile your whole body relaxes. Your shoulders go down, your defensiveness fades, your breath slows and deepens. The audience will see this and feel it, and be grateful for it.

Pause. A rush of words drives audience members back to their work emails and social media feeds. If you build in pauses, you build in anticipation.

Use hand gestures when speaking. Resting both of your hands on a lectern or keeping them stiffly at your side communicates unease, and the audience may lose faith in your ability to tell them something that matters to them. Using hand gestures connects you to your own material. If you’re connected to your material, others will want to plug into that connection.

Instead of reading from notes, express your expertise with an anecdote, specific insight or ask for a show of hands, and make it relate to the audience, not to you. Notes have their important place, and in many cases you have to work from a script. It’s best to start your speech without reading from notes. Obviously you need to know your stuff if you're going to speak without looking at notes. Let’s assume that you do know your stuff. Showcase it by sharing a provocative anecdote that relates directly to the topic at hand. Don’t waste that first minute telling people your name or regurgitating the name of the session at hand. Grab them with a nugget of knowledge, or lead into that nugget of knowledge by doing a quick poll of the audience. Steal an insight from a fellow speaker if you have to—you can apologize later. Two things to keep in mind: Practice this seemingly off-the-cuff opener in front of a mirror, and don't become over-reliant on any one technique over a span of months and years.

Divide a room mentally into several sectors and make eye contact with one person in each sector. Figure on making eye contact with at least four people in the room. Those four people will feel special, as long as you don’t hold your gaze for too long. That’s just a side benefit, though. What you’ll gain is a true connection with the audience and with the moment.

Leave the jokes to the professional comedians. Gilman is unequivocal in this recommendation. Based on my own experience as a public speaker, I have to agree with him. If I could I would take back every joke I’ve ever uttered on a podium. Chances are your jokes will fall flat, and even the ones that land well are guaranteed to offend somebody in the room. Audiences expect both lame and offensive jokes when they’re paying to attend a comedy club. They’re happy to do without them in professional settings. If you want jokes in your panel discussion or boardroom meeting, bring a comedian with you.

While exploring persuasive English speech topics, you must make sure that they are stimulating, engaging, concise and clear. There are three main types of Persuasive Speech topics which are:

1. Factual Persuasive Speech : These topics include facts, figures and statistics to thoroughly analyse the given topic and assess whether it’s true or false.

2. Policy Persuasive Speech : Discussing policies, laws and reforms, these speech topics critically examine the advantages and disadvantages of the given policy or law and suggest the improvements that can be made.

3. Value Persuasive Speech : Mainly focusing on social or political issues, these speech topics present the critique and argument of whether certain actions are morally right or not.

While speaking on a particular topic, there are certain things that you must keep in mind to make your speech expressive and effective. Let’s take a look at some useful topics that help you in acing any topic you are speaking on.

tips for writing and speaking

  • Always research the topic. If you are participating in an extempore, then make sure to go through the common and popular topics as well as the unconventional ones that you might get. Preparation is the key to delivering an impressive speech.
  • Whether you are given a topic on the spot or you are prepared for the speech, it is always pivotal that you seem interested in speaking about it. Relate the given issues to your own life and this will help you in giving it your twist.
  • Pay extra attention to your body language and enunciation. While a gesticulative approach will make you seem outward, having timid body language can cause a wrong impression.
  • Ponder upon the different viewpoints on a topic . Try to present a holistic view of the given topic but don’t forget to present your opinion on it as well. Along with this, don’t try to take sides unless the topic demands you to.
  • Involve your audience, if possible. This way, you will be able to interact with the people and it will also be useful in fighting the fear of public speaking.
  • Don’t mug up a speech. It becomes evident when someone just speaks on a topic continuously and the audience might realise that you have memorized it or you might forget a certain part which will let the whole speech fade away from your brain.
  • Instead, make notes about the topic in your mind, remember certain keywords and try to maintain a particular flow in your speech.
  • Incorporate humour in your speech in a way that you do not offend anyone or overdo it but get a positive reaction from the audience. Humour is a great way of lightening the mood as well as ensuring the whole speech is interactive and engaging.
  • When you need more specialized assistance, a  US essay writing service  can be a valuable resource for crafting your speech.

Juvenile delinquency is acceptable. Prostitution should be legal. Underage driving should be punishable by law. Beauty pageants for children should be banned. Prisoner’s right to vote. Voting rights should not be universal. Guns should be banned from college campuses.

A three-minute speech is undoubtedly a wonderful starting point for public speaking. This is because you need to communicate with your audience more effectively when you just have a short amount of time. In addition, the speech ought to be concise, pertinent, and clear.

Life is the gift of God in the form of trust that we will make it meaningful in whatever we can. We are all unique individuals. No one is born like you and no one will ever be, so cherish your individuality. Many times, I come across people accusing God of things that they don’t have. They always cursing their lives.

2-minute speeches are  short and crisp speeches of about 260-350 words .

1. my best friend.

A friend in need is a friend indeed ( सच्चा दोस्त वहीं जो वक्त पर काम आए ). The work looks dark without a friend. Happy are those who have a true friend. I am lucky to have Zain Ali as my best friend. He belongs to a noble (प्रशंसनीय / बहुत अच्छा ) family. He is my classmate. We work, play and study together.

He is good at studies. He always comes first in the class.  He is very active and cheerful (प्रसन्न) . He is easy-going ( शांत मिज़ाज) and humorous (हॅंसमुख) . He is in the school football team .   He often helps me in English and maths because I am weak in these two subjects.

On holidays we go for a long rides on our motorcycles. Recently ( हाल ही में) when I fell, he proved to be a friend in need by visiting me daily and helping me to complete my notes. His friendship means a lot to me.

2. My hobby

Every man has got some hobby. Some people are interested in reading novels and short stories books. Some take the pleasure (खुशी) of gardening. My hobby is to read religious books.

I read the Qur’an, the Gita, the Bible and others. I get inspiration (प्रेरणा) from these books. I am very fond of reading such books.

This types of books are full of arts, science, philosophy and what not (और क्या-क्या नहीं)  These books contain (में होना) lots of moral values. These books teach us how to live a better life.

It makes a man spritual (रुहानी) and mental strong.

3. Demerits (खामी/खराबी) of Television

Television has now become, almost very important part of household thing (घरेलू सामान). Everyone seems (नज़र आता) to enjoy watching it. The youngsters enjoy it more than others.

It is quite useful too for young people if they watch a few selected programmes . However what happens is that the young boys and girls watch mostly the light entertainment programmes from morning till evening.

This is a misuses (दुर्पयोग) of telivision and should be avoided. It can cause multifarious harms to body and mind. First of all, it affects the eyes. Secondly, many programmes are such that they do not have a desirable (मनचाहा) influence (प्राभाव) on the young mind.

Last but not least, the studies suffer. Students pay no attention to their homework. So television should be preferablely watched for not more than (से ज्यादा नहीं) two to three hours a day.

4. Pollution (प्रदुषण)

Today the nature is highly polluted. Smoke from homes, factories, and vehicles is polluting the air, water is being polluted with industries and city wastes.

Loudspeakers, horns and noises made by companies are causing (कारण होता है) sound pollution. Pollution causes many life taking diseases (बीमारी) . Petrol or diesel burnt in vehicles emit poisonous (ज़हरीली) gases into the air.

It is full of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Water is polluted in several ways and so is the cause with sound pollution. If sound pollution exceeds (बढ़ता) a certain level one may become even deaf (बहरा).

Gradually ( धीरे-धीरे)  trees have vanished ( गायब) , which contributed to pollution. Due to pollution people are the victim (शीकार) of various diseases like heart attack, bronchitis, asthma etc.

5. My favourite game

I like football very much. It is a very popular game all over the world. I like it for many reasons. It is very interesting game. We get a plenty ( बहुत) of physical exercise in this game.

It gives us mental exercise too, we have to be active and watchful (सतर्क) all the time. We need intelligence and imagination for scoring goal. We develop fellow feeling (भाईचारा) a sense of co-operation ( सहयोग) and team spirit through this game.

We develop good habits and manners also. This game does not cost much. Its rules are very simple. We like to play this game. So that’s the reason this game is my favourite sport.

6. Importance of a newspaper

A newspaper is a means of getting news, enhancing (बढ़ाना) knowledge and getting pleasure. It publishes (छापता) various items of news for all classes men: it keeps us informed of what is happening in and around the different parts of the country and the world.

It gives us information about the latest invention ( आविष्कार) discoveries, Bollywood, sports and political news etc. And new ideas. It serves as a link between people and the government.

All kinds of information can be spread like a fire by the newspaper. It renders (देता) a great service to the people.

7. The festival I like most

India is a religious country. People of different religions castes (जाता) and creed (वंश)   live here. So different types of festivals are celebrated here in India.

Holi, Durga Puja, Basant Panchami and Chatha are some of the important festivals of Hindus. Id and Muharram are important festivals of the Muslims, and Easter and Christmas of the Christians.

Thus, India is rightly called a land of festivals. All the festivals have their own charms (आकर्षण) . But I like Durga Puja the most.

8. Discipline (अनुशासन)

Discipline is necessary in every walks of life. In fact, discipline contributes to our success. Without it our social life we be disordered. Discipline is the most important factor behind the progress of any nation.

It is necessary in school, students must be disciplined because they are the future citizens of the country. If the drivers do not obey the rules of the road, it may be dangerous to move on the road. Can a family be happy if all members refuses to be the head of the family ?

If the soldiers have lack (कमी) of discipline, they will lose the battle field. So discipline is absolutely essential (आवश्यक) in life.

9. Disadvantages (नुकसान) of Indian cinema

Indian movies here a lot of drawbacks (कमी/खामी) . First of all the movies are long. A movie runs for almost three hours or so. Thus to watch a movie a person has to spend more than 2-3 hours.

Moreover the movie made in our country are mostly stereotyped. Either they are too melodramatic or are full with vulgarity and violence.

The movies are mostly watched by young people. The vulgarity shown in most of the films have a negative impact (प्रभाव) on the mind of the viewers.

The actors and actresses who are shown to engage in vulgarity (अश्लीलता) and violence in the movies are often copied by the young men and women. As a result sometimes movies make entire generation involved into unproductive work.

10. Information technology

Information technology or IT is called the latest wonder. Just a few decades before, no one could believe such a thing. Mobiles phones are the most popular product.

Have a laptop, computer and all information is at your fingers. It has resulted in the outsourcing if jobs. Many Indians now work for the foreign companies sitting in India. A crippled (अपंग) person with brain is crippled no longer.

11. The postman

The postman is a government employee (कर्मचारी) . But he a public servant.

He is the best messenger. We anxiously ( व्यकुलता से) wait for his arrival ( पहुंचने) everyday. He brings happy news for some and sad news for others.

He is not responsible (जि़म्मेदार) for any types of news. He spends (गुजारता) his life in serving ( सेवा करने में) the public from door to door to deliver letters.  He also gives us money orders.

He performs his duty honestly. He works throughout (सारा) the year. His work is really very hard.

12. The Barber (नाई)

The barbar is very close to us ( हमारे बहुत करीब) . He makes us active, handsome and smart. He cuts our nails. He bobs (काटकर छोटा करना) our hair. He trims our beard and shaves us.

He helps us to live neat and clean. Generally in village side, you might have see him (आपने उसे शायद देखा होगा) . He has a wooden box. He keeps all the things of his profession (पेशा) inside it..

The Barber of the village is different from the barber of the town. In town, he has a tip-top saloon or beauty parlour where (जहां) he serves his customers.

13. The dog

The dog is a faithful animal. He has four feet, two ears, and a curved (घुमा हुआ) tail (दुम). He is of diverse ( अलग-अलग) colour. People hallo a dog and he comes to them. He wags (हिलाना) his tail when he comes closer to his master. He helps his master in various ways. He forwarns (पहले से चेतावनी देना) him of danger.

He master sleeps at night, he keeps awake (जगे रहना). He helps us in protecting our home at night. He barks (भौंकना)   at stranger (अजनबी) and new comers. He chases (दौड़ाना) the thieves and catches them.

There are many festivals in India. But I like Eid the most. It’s actually the festival of Muslims.

After passing the month of Ramadan (fasting), Eid comes. Muslims are very happy this day. They put on new dresses. They go to Eidgha to perform Namaz. They They embrace and wish each other happy Eid.

They also donate Zaqaat (Islamic tax) to the poor not to the government. The children of the family get Eiddy (money) from their elders.

They go to their friends and relatives houese this day. They say them ‘happy Eid’. Eid is no doubt, a good festival.

15. The Ganga River

The Ganga is one of the most important rivers in India. It has occupied a central place in our heart. Most of the Indians rivers are connected with it.

The Gangotri glacier of the Himalayas in Uttar Pradesh is the source of the river Ganga. Kashi or Benaras; the most sacred (पवित्र) city of all, is on the Ganges.

The annual Kumbha fair (मेला) takes place at Haridwar and prayag on its bank (नदी का किनारा) .

The devout Hindus bathe at dawn (सुबह) and perform devotions ( भक्ति) . Some of them have a dip (डुबकी ) in the Ganga to be holy (पवित्र होने के लिए ).

A man is called healthy who is free from physical and mental ailments ( बीमारी/पीड़ा). Indeed, health is a precious (कीमती) asset (संपत्ति) . It is a treasure (खज़ाना) of pleasures (खुशी).

Life, without good health, is dull and tasteless. It is then like a lemon without juice or a diamond without lustre (चमक).

People say that a healthy farmer can enjoy life more truly than a sick (बीमार)   prince.

Undoubtedly (इस में कोई शोक नहीं) true happiness, without good health, is nothing but a dream.

To stay healthy, we must do physical exercises which are restoric tonic for health.

Health is greater blessing (वरदान) than fame (शोहरत), wealth and power. That’s why I can say, health is wealth.

17. DR. Rajendra Prasad

Dr. Rajendra Prasad is my favourite president. He was the first President of India. He is popularly known as ‘Deshratna’. He was really one of the gems of India.

He was born in a small village at Jiradei is Saran district of Bihar on 3rd of December, 1884. He was a true devotee (भक्त) of Mahatma Gandhi. He was also imprisoned (क़ैद किया गया) and put in captivity (जेल) for a number of years like all others freedom fighters (आज़ादी में लड़ने वाले) .

He had to face so many difficulties (परेशानियों) during his study. He is also a great example for every student. He was one of the greatest international personality.

18. Journey by Bus

A bus journey is usually not comfortable. It is tiresome (थका देनेवाला) and boring. I made a journey to Ranchi by bus. The bus was not over-crowded. Fortunately I had booked my seat just near the window. So, I did not feel much inconvenience.

I comfortably leaned (झुका) against the window. It was very hot. But as soon as (जैसे ही) the bus started moving we had some relief. It was my first journey. I had to pass through Jamshedpur, Bundu, Rangamati, Namkum and many other small towns.

I had a very pleasant experience when the bus passed through the dense forest. The scene of the hills was enchanting. I enjoyed this journey very much.

19. Do one thing at a time

If we do too many stuffs (चीज़े) at once,we become less focused and effective. We also won’t enjoy the activity. Whether we have to talk on the phone, play with friends, wash dishes, clean the house, or read a book, we should decide to do a particular time and take up  just one thing at a time.

This will help us to have the right focus and concentration. The advantages in such an activity will be two times better. Since (चुंकी) we are fully focused on the task, we will get absorbed (लीन हो गया) and interested in it. So we will enjoy in whatever we do.

The second advantage is that we will do the task quickly and efficiently (निपुणता से) . Our skills will increase generally in all areas of out life_ writing, reading, cleaning the house, and speaking on the phone. All that we need to do is to decide on our choice and focus our attention on one thing at a time.

20. Our country : India

India is a big country. It is unique in the world. New Delhi is its capital. Its population is still more than hundred crore. It is next to Chaina in terms of population. There are approx twenty nine states in the country. It has three names_ English name is India. Urdu it’s called Hindustan and Bharat in Hindi.

Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are biggest States. It has many tribes, religions and languages. There are a lot of beautiful hill stations, Darjeeling, Shimla, Mansoori, Ooty and Kashmir.

Kashmir is considered as a paradise of India. There are many big cities such as Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Banglore. We love our country very much. Hindi is our national language but unfortunately it’s not spoken all over India.

21. The best way of spending holidays

Holidays are liked by all age groups people. Whether you are a student or professional person. Everyone loves to have holidays. I am not talking about the one or two days of holidays, rather, I mean to say summer vacations. It is the longest holidays of the year.

It generally begins in the first week of May month and goes upto June last week. Many of the people simply spend this long periods by just sleeping or watching movies. But I think it’s a total waste of time and energy.

I really want to utilise my vacation time in some useful and productive ways. I can learn something short term technical skills, English fluency development course or any fruitful computer course which can be very helpful and handy.

I don’t want to waste my time because time is something once gone, never come back again.

22. The person I like most on this planet are my parents

Two greatest persons in this planet are my parents, why ? Because I can give not only 5-6 reasons but hundreds of reasons for this.

First, I would like to thanks my lovely and wonderful parents who have given me birth. Because of them, I have been able to see such a beautiful world.

They have given me everything whatever I needed when I was a baby and till now they try to fulfill all my dreams whatsoever.

They have done a great favour to me by educating me and bringing me up in a good environment. They have taught me what’s right or wrong.

They are my guide, mentors, coach, friends, teachers who always sacrifices something or the other just for the sake of me.

They are the great source of inspiration and motivation for me. They never let me down under any circumstances. I am lucky to have such nice parents.

23. Why game should be compulsory in modern world ?

As we know that in modern world, not only young boys and girls are addicted to mobile and television but also our majority of school going children are being victimized. As our science and technology are advancing, new gadgets are coming up.

Physical exercise or activities are being ignored by our kids. They love spending their time either on TV or mobile. They don’t want to go out to play outdoor games.

In this case, our parents and teachers have a great role to play. Our school authorities or guardian can motivate our children to take part in different activities or force them to participate in sports.

Games or sports must be included in school on a daily basis so that our children’s overall personality can improve.

Spending more and more time on modern gadgets or devices can make our kids lazy, dull, inactive or slow in their studies.

Engaging in TV or mobile internet over the long periods can slow their physical or mental growth. Sports is something that can give them a plenty of opportunities to excel in their life. It can remove their mental tiredness and energize their minds. It fills a sense of responsibility or discipline which are the assets of life.

24. Good and bad impact of computer on us

As we all know that the computer is an electronic machine which does thousands of our work in few minutes.

1) Good things about it

We can do time-taking calculations quickly. We use computers almost everywhere, be it a school, college, office, banking, railway, research centre or science laboratory.

It is also being used as a household object such as personal computer (PC), laptop or in the form of tablet. Not only we do calculation from it, but also is used for online shopping, business, education, training or entertainment purposes.

2) bad impact of it

Everything has merit and demerit, a computer aslo has. Because of computer many people have lost their jobs. Working with a computer for longer hours makes a man dull and lazy, it has changed our sitting posture, it affects our backbone, eye sight and mental health.

Hacker have become very active, it has become a headache for cyber crime department. Due to internet, many pornography websites are common among the young generation. Surfing internet over the computer is a total waste of money, energy as well as time.

I am sure it will help young learners to speak theses 2 minutes speech topics to enhance their speaking skills up to some extent.

School Speech Topics Checklists

School speech topics tips for verification and 1-2-3 step checking at the secondary middle, high and elementary public speaking homework assignments on teaching skills. In a nutshell: they are easy to answer questions to make a better choice for creating the best result.

Also on this page, you will discover tips to concrete communication issues and education resources. They lead you in the right direction; you only have to use your fantasy.

Let the imaginary juices flow in your brains!

Can We Write Your Speech?

Get your audience blown away with help from a professional speechwriter. Free proofreading and copy-editing included.

More aggravated lists of themes and valuable information regarding different subjects for future generations education are below. As well as a summary of the implications and / or requirements of what you have found, and school speech topics you could analyze in class.

You can sort out any ideas you like to talk about in oral lessons, scan the possible suggestions and think about what your audience like to hear you talking about: cite short passages and quotation excerpts from well-known experts in the field of research, or refer to good knowledge illustrations and sustainable proof.

Learn to gather material from outside sources about your thread for grades 9 through 12 learning, and deliver your opinion strongly and concisely. Give plain reasons for something you believe. Foster support for your solution, theory or device.

This is principally beneficial for achieving higher education institute assertiveness when you are on stage and put two or more views together, and provide a reason for putting them together by logical reasoning. Another method is approaching the subject matter in both positive and negative lights.

Tracing how something has induced artificially from an earlier state to its current form could welcomed by higher pedagogic instructors.

Next tip: workout extensive information on indoor and outdoor recreation activities to tempt your public to explore other activities than dating, dancing and drinking in a local bar.

Sports is a candidate for finding senior graded school speech topics. E.g. sport as profession to earn a living. With a scientific twist you make it more sophisticated, and because you’re highly qualified and have an actively learning attitude you are able to get their thesis commitment.

Some moves that matter in lower classes are the so-called critize teaching skills, often described as asking and wondering through critical inquiry:

You can help your teacher and fill her or him with enthusiasm by going extracurricular in proposing a particular judgment on a certain top topicality and examen the validity of the arguments by criticizing. This has been in practice in the late seventies – when things went the old-fashioned and more severe way 🙂 – but this technique has made a terrific comeback and is now used in grades 5 through 8 homework assignments.

Many of my visitors look for sixth grade inspiration, or class 6 if you live in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan, Primary 5 or 6 in Singapore, and 6ГЁme in France for example. Anyway, in what country you are right now does not matter; all school speech topics are created for children in the range of eleven and twelve years old.

The same holds good for class conversations of (usually) thirteen to fourteen years old who try to cover explanations of various objects and their meaning in the accustomed world of the eight grade population.

Children speak the truth, is often said 🙂 And that saying is more than true. Give them something to chew on in public – from colouring plates to planting and caring for trees – and it is so easy, a younger persons can do it 🙂

More for girls and boys – although it depends on the specific age or progress of the pupils – can be found at this index number two. Help them to be able to get to know the material, and to make the first steps on the path of learning the rudimentary public speaking skills (that are valuable for their whole life).

I have shaped a list that also contains some reference information for nursery and primary and kindergarten material.

Sora: OpenAI launches tool that instantly creates video from text

Model from ChatGPT maker ‘simulates physical world in motion’ up to a minute long based on users’ subject and style instructions

OpenAI revealed a tool on Thursday that can generate videos from text prompts.

The new model, nicknamed Sora after the Japanese word for “sky”, can produce realistic footage up to a minute long that adheres to a user’s instructions on both subject matter and style. According to a company blogpost, the model is also able to create a video based on a still image or extend existing footage with new material.

“We’re teaching AI to understand and simulate the physical world in motion, with the goal of training models that help people solve problems that require real-world interaction,” the blogpost reads.

One video included among several initial examples from the company was based on the prompt: “A movie trailer featuring the adventures of the 30-year-old space man wearing a red wool knitted motorcycle helmet, blue sky, salt desert, cinematic style, shot on 35mm film, vivid colors.”

The company announced it had opened access to Sora to a few researchers and video creators. The experts would “red team” the product – test it for susceptibility to skirt OpenAI’s terms of service, which prohibit “extreme violence, sexual content, hateful imagery, celebrity likeness, or the IP of others”, per the company’s blogpost. The company is only allowing limited access to researchers, visual artists and film-makers, though CEO Sam Altman responded to users’ prompts on Twitter after the announcement with video clips he said were made by Sora. The videos bear a watermark to show they were made by AI.

The company debuted the still image generator Dall-E in 2021 and generative AI chatbot ChatGPT in November 2022, which quickly accrued 100 million users. Other AI companies have debuted video generation tools, though those models have only been able to produce a few seconds of footage that often bears little relation to their prompts. Google and Meta have said they are in the process of developing generative video tools, though they have not released them to the public. On Wednesday, it announced an experiment with adding deeper memory to ChatGPT so that it could remember more of its users’ chats.

OpenAI did not disclose how much footage was used to train Sora or where the training videos may have originated, other than telling the New York Times that the corpus contained videos that were both publicly available and licensed from copyright owners. The company has been sued multiple times for alleged copyright infringement in the training of its generative AI tools, which digest gargantuan amounts of material scraped from the internet and imitate the images or text contained in those datasets.

Nvidia posts revenue up 265% on booming AI business

thumbnail

  • Nvidia reported earnings after the bell that beat Wall Street expectations for earnings and sales, and said revenue during the current quarter would be better than expected.

Nvidia has been the primary beneficiary of the recent technology industry obsession with large artificial intelligence models, which are developed on the company's pricey graphics processors for servers.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang addressed investor fears that the company may not be able to keep up this growth or level of sales for the whole year on a call with analysts.

In this article

Nvidia reported fourth fiscal quarter earnings that beat Wall Street's forecast for earnings and sales, and said revenue during the current quarter would be better than expected, even against elevated expectations for massive growth.

Nvidia shares rose about 10% in extended trading.

Here's what the company reported compared with what Wall Street was expecting for the quarter ending in January, based on a survey of analysts by LSEG, formerly known as Refinitiv:

  • Earnings per share: $5.16 adjusted vs. $4.64 expected
  • Revenue: $22.10 billion vs. $20.62 billion expected

Nvidia said it expected $24.0 billion in sales in the current quarter. Analysts polled by LSEG were looking for $5.00 per share on $22.17 billion in sales.

"Fundamentally, the conditions are excellent for continued growth" in 2025 and beyond, Huang told analysts. He says demand for the company's GPUs will remain high due to generative AI and an industry-wide shift away from central processors to the accelerators that Nvidia makes.

Nvidia reported $12.29 billion in net income during the quarter, or $4.93 per share, up 769% versus last year’s $1.41 billion or 57 cents per share.

Nvidia's total revenue rose 265% from a year ago, based on strong sales for AI chips for servers, particularly the company's "Hopper" chips such as the H100, it said.

"Strong demand was driven by enterprise software and consumer internet applications, and multiple industry verticals including automotive, financial services and health care," the company said in commentary provided to investors.

Nvidia posts Q4 beat on revenue and earnings

Those sales are reported in the company's Data Center business, which now comprises the majority of Nvidia's revenue. Data center sales were up 409% to $18.40 billion. Over half the company's data center sales went to large cloud providers.

Nvidia said its data center revenue was hurt by recent U.S. restrictions on exporting advanced AI semiconductors to China.

"We understood what the restrictions are, reconfigured our products in a way that is not software hackable in any way, and that took some time so we reset our product offering to China," Huang said. "Now we're sampling to customers in China."

Nvidia Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress said that while the company had improved supply of its AI GPUs, it still expected them to be in short supply, especially the next-generation chip, called B100, expected to ship later this year.

"We are delighted that supply of Hopper architecture products is improving," Kress said on a call with analysts. "Demand for Hopper remains very strong. We can expect our next-generation products to be supply constrained as demand far exceeds supply."

"Whenever we have new products, as you know, it ramps from zero to a very large number and you can't do that overnight," Huang said.

The company's gaming business, which includes graphics cards for laptops and PCs, was merely up 56% year over year to $2.87 billion. Graphics cards for gaming used to be Nvidia's primary business before its AI chips started taking off, and some of Nvidia's graphics cards can be used for AI.

Nvidia's smaller businesses did not show the same meteoric growth. Its automotive business declined 4% to $281 million in sales, and its OEM and other business, which includes crypto chips, rose 7% to $90 million. Nvidia's business making graphics hardware for professional applications rose 105% to $463 million.
