Do Symmetry Pages Count as Learning Worksheets?

Symmetry pages are a unique kind of activity that has been proven to benefit children in a variety of ways. While symmetry pages may be slightly different from traditional learning worksheets, that doesn’t mean they don’t count as learning how to learn!

In fact, symmetry pages can be an excellent way for kids to challenge their minds and provide them with a different way to look at problems and how to solve them.

This is especially important for children who may not be as motivated to complete traditional learning assignments, but still need that challenge in order to unlock their true potential.

While symmetry pages can be a lot of fun, they are just one small aspect of the curriculum you use with your child. Therefore, we recommend using our free printable symmetry worksheets as a supportive aid to your current math curriculum.

How do Symmetry Worksheets Work?

When you download these geometry worksheets, your kids will be presented with various images that have been chopped in half. They will have half of an image and will be expected to complete the other half.

The goal is to come up with a mirror image of the half image you have in front of you. Complete lines of symmetry and see how many symmetrical shapes you can find in the mirror image you are creating! Coming up with the solution to these 2d shapes can be fun, challenging, and highly entertaining.

These worksheets are ideal for children who are in 4th grade, but older and younger students are welcome to enjoy these pages as well. Most of my kids get a kick out of these worksheets and many of my readers enjoy them too. Really, they are appropriate for anybody between the ages of 3 (prek) and 13.

What is the Benefit of Printable Symmetry Worksheets?

One of the greatest benefits of symmetry pages is that they are not bound by any rules or constraints. Of course, symmetry worksheets will still be logical and problem-solving components that your children must complete, but your child can use their creativity to fill in the blanks with a little bit of creative liberty.

This can be a great way to encourage some of those problem-solving skills that are vital for your child’s success later on in life!

At the same time, it is important not to let your child use imagination too much with their symmetry worksheets. You don’t want them to get lost or distracted while completing an image. Save that extra dose of creativity for the coloring process at, so be sure to keep an eye on your child and guide their creative process.

Kids who have some creative liberty while also being exposed to logical problem-solving will have a much more well-rounded education.

While many kids grow up with creative parents who encourage them to just follow their dreams, symmetry worksheets are an excellent way to teach kids how it feels when things don’t go as planned and they must adjust accordingly, so be sure that your child is always challenged with symmetry math pages that will benefit them in the long run!

But what else can your kids gain from these kids of math worksheets ? Why fine motor skills of course! Learning how to manipulate a pencil in a way that is very detailed and precise, rather than just random and willy-nilly, can certainly increase fine motor skills.

Learn symmetry art, the understanding of symmetry, and more with these free printable symmetry activities! Not to mention graphing and how to recognize symmetrical objects.

Completing the missing half of these symmetrical pictures is so much better than boring workbooks and online word problems, wouldn’t you agree?

What Can Be Learned from Symmety Pages Such as These?

When it comes to symmetry pages, your child can learn a lot about how shapes work together and how balance is key in many aspects of life. A symmetrical image will naturally feel balanced to us, even if there are subtle differences that our brains don’t immediately pick up on.

Learning symmetry patterns is an excellent way for kids to dive into the world of shapes and how they work together. Even if your child is having a particularly difficult time recognizing shapes that are similar, symmetry pages will provide them with an excellent way to hone those skills as well as introduce some basic geometry concepts as your child begins working on their symmetry worksheets!

In addition to learning geometric shapes, kids can also increase their logic skills. They will be more able to spot solutions that pop up in their everyday lives when these logic skills are honed.

The best part is that all of this will happen naturally since symmetry worksheets are so fun and creative. If you want your child to learn these skills without them feeling like they’re just doing school work, then printable symmetry worksheets can be a perfect way to allow their creativity and logical thinking both shine!

Symmetry: Finish the Picture Pages {Drawing Mirror Images}

One beautiful math concept that is seen all over the natural world, as well as in art, music and more is symmetry . And what I love about symmetry is that even very young kids can learn about and see symmetry in the world around them , making this a great topic to explore with mixed ages. I would encourage you to start with a hands on introduction or a fun math art project when teaching symmetry. But another fun activity for kids is this set of “finish the picture” pages .

Looking for some extra symmetry practice? These finish the drawing pages are fun for kids of all ages and help deepen their understanding of symmetry. They also include grid lines to help kids be more precise.

What is Symmetry?

First, we need to understand a mathematical definition of symmetry. One way to think of line symmetry is as a mirror image.

In other words, one side of the line of symmetry is an exact mirror image, or reflection, of the other side.

Mathematically, this means that every point on one side of the line is equidistant from the line of symmetry as it’s corresponding point on the other side of the line .

So if a point is 5 units from the line of symmetry, it’s reflected point is also 5 units away, in the opposite direction.

Thus, if you were to fold the image in half, one half would line up exactly with the other half.

There are other types of symmetry as well, such as rotational symmetry, but line symmetry is the easiest, most natural place to begin with children .

Finish the Picture: Symmetrical Pictures for Kids

This set of drawing pages for kids will help them to see symmetry and practice creating a mirror image with the help of grid lines .

Looking for some extra symmetry practice? These finish the drawing pages are fun for kids of all ages and help deepen their understanding of symmetry. They also include grid lines to help kids be more precise.

Some of the images are easier than others, so you may want to begin with the simpler practice pages (although they are not in any specific order in the download).

For young kids, you might want to begin by folding the paper down the center to show them the line of symmetry .

Looking for some extra symmetry practice? These finish the drawing pages are fun for kids of all ages and help deepen their understanding of symmetry. They also include grid lines to help kids be more precise.

Then explain that after drawing the other side, the picture should line up when they fold it again.

Older kids, who are ready and able to be more precise with their drawing (and also able to understand a more exact definition of symmetry), might use a ruler to measure some of the points of the drawing .

Looking for some extra symmetry practice? These finish the drawing pages are fun for kids of all ages and help deepen their understanding of symmetry. They also include grid lines to help kids be more precise.

They can then measure the points on the other side to ensure it is symmetrical.

Obviously, they don’t need to measure every single point on the drawing, but measuring a few key points will help them create a more exact mirror image.

And of course, no matter how exact their drawings are, or how deep their understanding of symmetry, I hope your kids enjoy these finish the picture pages !

Flower Symmetry Art for Kids (with Free Flower Template)

Looking for a fun Flower Craft for spring? This Flower Symmetry Art for Kids is perfect! The free Flower Template printable makes a super simple spring craft idea for kids.

Spring has arrived and it’s the perfect time to pull out all of those flower crafts for kids!

We’ve been big into the symmetry for kids art projects lately!

We’ve made Symmetry Butterflies and Symmetry Easter Eggs as well!

As a teacher, symmetry crafts were always a favorite in my classroom.

Flower Symmetry art for kids - a fun flower craft for kids that is perfect for a spring craft preschool - shown: a flower painted partially along with a finished symmetry printed flower

The kindergarten and preschool age kids loved this art project because of the big reveal at the end. Little ones loved to open their pages and discover the surprise symmetry print.

I remember their eyes getting so WIDE with excitement!

To make this preschool symmetry flower craft for kids super easy, I’ve created four free printable flower templates.

You can choose from 2 different flower shapes both with and without the line of symmetry drawn on them.

There’s a total of 4 different flower templates for this flower symmetry art, so that you can find the perfect one for your craft.

Or you can print them all….because symmetry art is really fun!

Flower symmetry for kids - simple spring flower craft idea for preschool

What is symmetry?

According to  Hands On as We Grow , symmetry is like a mirror image.

It’s when two parts of a whole are exactly identical mirror images of each other.

Something is symmetrical if you can draw a line down it and each side looks the same.

The line down the middle is called the Line of Symmetry. A heart is an example of symmetry, because it has two sides that are exactly alike.

This flower symmetry for kids activity is a great way to introduce the concept of symmetry to preschoolers and kindergarteners.

Kids will have fun making their own symmetry flowers by painting the flower petals on one side and then folding on the lines of symmetry to print a symmetrical pattern on the right side of the piece of paper.

Supplies for Flower Symmetry Painting for preschoolers

For this Flower Painting Symmetry project, you will need the following items:

  • Free Symmetry Flower Template Printable – You can download it at the end of this article.
  • Kids Washable Paint  – This paint by Crayola is perfect.
  • Paper Plates
  • Q-Tips  (or paint brushes)

How to make Flower Symmetry Art for Kids

First, print out the symmetry flower template of your choice. (We printed out all 4 because we love doing symmetry art!)

Next, fold the paper at the line of symmetry. Now, flatten the page back to normal. (Folding the page in advance will make it easier to fold over later after it’s painted).

Provide a variety of paint on the paper plate for your child. We chose to use all of the bright colors that work well for brightly colored flowers and I skipped colors like black, brown, and white.

We chose to paint with Q-Tips, but paint brushes work as well.

Point out the line of symmetry to your child. Show them how to paint the left side of the flower.

Child painting flower - symmertry art for kids

(We are only painting half of the flower so that we can print the symmetrical flower image on the other side of the paper.)

For this to work, the paint needs to be thick enough and wet enough to make a print on the other side. Encourage your child to paint a  thick layer  and to  paint quickly .

If they take too long, the paint will dry before they get to make their symmetry flower print.

symmetry art for kids - paper folded over to make a symmetry print

Once they have painted the left side of the flower, help them to fold the right side over the left side.

Press the paper together, then assist them in opening the flower printable.

Little ones will be amazed to see that their painting has been replicated onto the right side of the flower!

finished painted flower - symmerty art for kids

And… that’s it! You’ve made the Flower Symmetry Art for kids!!

My kids loved this so much, we made several symmetry flowers! (I might have made a few too!)

Just click on the black download button below to get the free symmetry preschool flower template set.

There’s a flower symmetry worksheet both with the symmetry line printed and a plain flower template without the line. In addition, there are 2 different shapes of flowers as well!

Choose the flower symmetry printable you think will work best for your kids. Or, print them all!

Flower Symmetry art for kids - completed

Each flower is perfectly centered on the page to make folding for the line of symmetry super easy.

My youngest child preferred using the papers with the line of symmetry drawn on them. She like the visual of where to stop painting.

Poster Design

Layout - symmetry.

The more visually appealing your poster is, the more likely that your audience will be attracted to it and will read it. Symmetrical designs are visually pleasing and will give your poster a sense of balance.

Keep in mind that when designing a poster, symmetry of the title or horizontal top area does not necessarily need to be symmetrical with the content. Also, perfect symmetry is not always required to ensure a sense of balance, but the largest elements or the majority of elements should be symmetrical.

Horizontal Symmetry - when the poster content is divided on a horizontal line, the top and bottom mirror each other:
