Smarty PAC Code: Keep Your Number When Changing Networks
Whether you're joining Smarty or leaving for another network, it's a straightforward process to keep your existing phone number.
All you'll need to do is to request a PAC Code . It's totally free and the entire process of transferring your phone number should normally take no longer than one working day.
For detailed instructions, please choose the option that best applies to you:
- I'm leaving Smarty and joining another network Transfer your Smarty phone number onto a different mobile network.
- I'm joining Smarty from another network Transfer your phone number from another mobile network to Smarty.
- I'm upgrading my Smarty phone or SIM card Transfer your phone number from one Smarty account to another Smarty account.
Leaving Smarty For Another Network
If you're leaving Smarty to join another mobile network, you can take your phone number with you using a PAC Code from Smarty.
There are two ways to request a Smarty PAC Code:
- Online: You can get a PAC Code from Smarty by logging in to the Smarty Account website . Once you've logged in, go to Account Settings > Leave SMARTY > Leave now .
- By Text Message: You can get a Smarty PAC Code sent to you via SMS text message. Text PAC followed by your date of birth in DDMMYY format to 65075 to receive a PAC Code from Smarty.
It's always free to get a PAC Code from Smarty, and it's your legal entitlement to be able to recieve one.
The PAC Code you recieve from Smarty should begin with LCS and should be 9 digits long (e.g. LCS 123 456 ).
Once you have your Smarty PAC Code, you'll need to provide it to your new mobile network operator. For detailed instructions, please select your new mobile network from the following dropdown menu:

Don’t want to keep your Smarty phone number? You can request a STAC Code from Smarty instead .
Smarty STAC Code (Leave Smarty Without Keeping Your Number)
If you’d like to leave Smarty without keeping your current phone number, you’ll need to request a Smarty STAC Code rather than a PAC Code. There are two ways to get a STAC Code from Smarty:
- Online: You can get a STAC Code from Smarty by logging in to the Smarty Account website . After logging in, go to Account Settings > Leave SMARTY > Leave now .
- By Text Message: You can get a Smarty STAC Code sent to you via SMS text message. Text STAC followed by your date of birth in DDMMYY format to 75075 to receive a STAC Code from Smarty.
Once you’ve gotten your STAC Code, the rest of the process for joining your new mobile network remains the same. You can choose your new provider from the dropdown menu above for instructions on how to use your Smarty STAC Code.
Joining Smarty From Another Network
If you're joining Smarty from a different mobile network, you should ask your old mobile network to provide you with a PAC Code. The PAC Code will allow you to transfer your phone number to Smarty.
After getting a PAC Code from your old network, you should order your new phone or SIM card directly from Smarty's website . For more information, please select the type of tariff you're wanting to move to:

When Your New Phone Arrives...
Once your new phone or SIM card arrives from Smarty, switch it on and make sure everything's working correctly. If, for whatever reason, you need to return or change your handset or SIM card, it's best to do this before transferring your phone number.
Once you're happy to continue with the transfer, your PAC Code should be submitted through Smarty's online form .
Once you've provided your PAC code to Smarty, your phone number transfer will normally be scheduled for the next working day (Monday to Friday only, excluding English bank holidays ).
Sometimes, you’ll be given the option to provide a PAC Code at the same time as when you order your new phone or SIM card. We’d typically recommend against providing your PAC Code at this stage. Instead, waiting for the new phone or SIM card to arrive from Smarty first will allow you to make sure it’s working correctly and will make the process of cancelling or returning much easier.
Upgrading Your Plan On Smarty
If you're simply upgrading to a newer handset or tariff, it's not necessary to get a Smarty PAC Code. You can simply upgrade via Smarty's website . For more information, please select the type of Smarty price plan you're planning to move to:

This is such a fantastic web site. Thank you for all the effort you’ve put in.
Just a quick question to clarify something. We can’t transfer a number within the same network, but does ‘network’ in this instance refer to the underlying provider, or are MVNOs considered separate networks as far as the PAC process is concerned?
What I would like to do is transfer my number from Three PAYG (now that they’ve killed their 3-2-1 tariff for existing users) to Smarty.
However, Smarty’s MVNO runs on Three. So can I just use the PAC process to transfer directly from Three to Smarty? Or would I have to request a first PAC and squat temporarily on a Vodafone/EE/O2 PAYG SIM, then request a second PAC to move from Vodafone/EE/O2 to Smarty running on Three?
Ken replied:
Hi Sean, Thank you for the comment and for the kind feedback as well! In this case, MVNOs are considered to be separate networks so you can just follow the normal PAC Code process for moving from Three to SMARTY 🙂 Hope this helps, Ken
Gerry replied:
Ive been on the 3 321 tariff for donkeys and with its demise and the huge increase in rates plus binning my Virgin broadband I was attracted to the cheap big data deals on Smarty. The porting of my 3 number to my new Smarty sim was quick and easy, no different than any other provider, just get the PAC from 3 and sub. It to Smarty using your dashboard.

Hi. I’m trying to change from O2 (sim only), to Smarty (sim only). I’ve received a PAC code from O2. I’ve received 2! Sim cards (in 1 envelope), from Smarty. When I put either of the Smarty sim cards in my phone, it says that the network is locked. As such, I cannot get onto the internet to upload my PAC nr. Can I upload my PAC nr with my old sim in the phone ? Please help.
Hi Lloyd, Sadly, it sounds like your mobile phone is locked to a network so you’ll need to unlock it before you can use a SIM card from SMARTY. If you like, you can put the SIM card in your old phone to input the PAC number (or you could use a Wi-Fi connection instead). However, I’d strongly recommend completing the unlock first before you transferring your phone number so you don’t end up having the phone number on a SIM card you can’t use! Hope this helps, Ken

What happens if I have more than one number with O2 but am only transferring one (the other is a sim card in a motorised gate) ?
Hi Siobhan, Many thanks for your comment. It’s no problem at all doing this – you can transfer the two numbers independently of each other. Hope this helps, Ken
SiobhanHenry replied:
Thank you! Thanks also for the amazing information. I am delighted to have just switched over to SMARTY at a fraction of the price I was paying for a lot less( and non refundable) data.

Step by step process guide
Smarty recommend using a PAC code to transfer your number to your new sim.
What is a PAC?
A Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) allows your old provider to facilitate your transfer and notifies your previous provider to close your old account. A PAC code is valid for 30 days from the day it is requested (this is the same for all providers).
How can I get my PAC code?
All you need to do is text 'PAC' to 65075 (for free).
- Make sure you're texting from the SIM that currently holds the phone number you'd like to keep, in other words, not your new Smarty sim.
- You'll be sent a PAC within 60 seconds.
- Your provider's reply should also include important information about any early termination charges or pay-as-you-go credit balances.
Once you've got the code, you can activate your SIM. Put your new SIM into your phone.
- Login to your SMARTY account online and click “ Activate SIM ” to begin your billing month and start using your data, calls & texts.
- Activation should happen in just a few minutes , but could take up to 2 hours.
- You can then click on “ Show me how to transfer my number ” under “Your phone number” on your dashboard, and follow the easy steps to enter your PAC and the phone number you want to keep.
Transfers should happen within 1-2 business days .
Submit within a business day ( Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM ) for your transfer to complete by 5PM the next business day . Outside of that, it might take an extra business day, or longer if it's a Bank Holiday.
- You get an email and a text to your SMARTY SIM when your number transfer has gone through.
- You can continue using your previous SIM until your previous provider cancels your services with them or wait until you receive an email from Smarty confirming the transfer.
Once this is all finished, you can slide your SMARTY SIM in, restart your device and you're ready to go!
What does Smarty offer?
Smarty offers flexible monthly rolling contracts, with unlimited calls, texts and tethering in the UK.There is no credit check and no speed caps. They offer 4G and 3G data with their plans. Take a look at our in depth review of Smarty for more information.

If you want to upgrade or downgrade to a different plan, you're in the right place
We've made changing your plan really easy - you just need to have auto-renew enabled to make a change. 🚀
Head to your Dashboard and go into Account settings > Manage plan
Click Change your plan
Select the plan you'd like to switch to
Confirm the plan change and hit Pay (no payment will be taken at this point)
Done! Your new plan will come into effect from your next renewal date. If you've manually renewed, you can enjoy your new plan right away.
When will my plan change come into effect? 📅
If you are changing your plan during your current month, your new plan will take effect from your next renewal date.
Do I have to pay to make a plan change? 💴
No - you just have to ensure auto-renew is enabled. Before your plan change is confirmed, some banks will require you to authorise the payment in advance.
What’ll happen to my data discount or other promotions if I change plans? ✨
If you have a promotion or offer on your current plan , you will lose this promotion and it will not be carried over.
If you’re currently on a plan that is no longer available, you can stay on this plan for as long as you like, but you will not be able to change back to it once you change to a different plan.
If you’re on a data discount plan and want to move to a smaller data discount plan , you can still receive a discount, but only up to the amount allowed on that plan. All of our data discount plans benefit from the same discount which is £1 per 1GB of unused data, however if you were on the 3GB plan and saved £3 of unused data discount, then decided to change to the 1GB plan, you’ll only get £1 off your next month as that’s the maximum for the 1GB plan.
If you’re on a data discount plan and want to upgrade to one of our plan types, any unused data discount will not be carried over.
I don’t see the “Change Plan” button on my dashboard 👀
You can’t change plans until you turn on auto-renew from your account settings . If you don’t wish to turn on auto-renewing payments, once your current plan expires, you’ll have the option to renew onto a different plan.
Can I change plans if my plan has expired or is on pause? 🙅♂️
If you didn’t have auto-renew turned on and your plan expired, you’ll still have the option to renew onto a different plan.
However, if your plan has been paused due to a payment failure, you will not be able to request a plan change until you update your payment information and renew your current plan. Once you have done so, you’ll be able to request a plan change, which will come into effect on your next renewal.

- PAC Codes | How to keep and transfer your old number
Transferring your mobile number to a new phone
According to our own mobile phone statistics , a Uswitch survey from 2022 found that 38% of people change their phone every two years. However, changing your phone number can be a bit of a chore. The good news is you can avoid any hassle by moving your existing number to your new phone.
Here's a step-by-step guide to keeping your mobile number and how to use a PAC code.
Haven't chosen a handset yet? Compare mobile phone deals
Looking for a SIM only deal instead? Compare SIM only deals
How do I transfer my mobile number?
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to move your current phone number to a new phone.
1. Text your current provider to request a mobile PAC code
A PAC code should be given to you immediately over the phone or within two hours by text. This time frame is stipulated by the telecommunications regulator. So if you don't get it, you've got cause to complain.
To prevent someone from stealing your number, networks will want to verify your identity. So expect to be asked some questions and have the relevant information to hand that’ll help you to answer quickly.
PAC codes are normally made up of nine digits and will be valid for 30 days. If time runs out before you've had a chance to use the code you were supplied with, you’ll need to request a new PAC from your existing mobile provider.
Calls to networks to get your PAC code are charged at standard rates.
If the above seems like a bit of a hassle and you just want a clean switch without having to speak to your existing provider, new government regulations have made the whole process a lot easier.
Text to Switch is simple. All you need to do is text PAC to 65075 and you’ll get your code straight away, you don’t even have to make a phone call.
Want to find out more? Check out our handy Text to Switch guide .
2. Contact your new network and give them the PAC code
When you provide your PAC code to a new network, the cancellation process will begin automatically with your old network.
Once your new network has the code, it will get in touch with the network you're leaving to tell them about the number transfer and will schedule the switch.
This will normally be for the next working day. In the interim, keep your old SIM card in your phone so you can continue to use it to make calls and send texts.
If a weekend gets in the way, the process of porting your number may take longer.
But by and large, if you supply a carrier with a PAC Code on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you can expect the number transfer to be completed on the following Tuesday.
3. Check the SIM works in your phone and the new number has ported across
To do this, just place the SIM in your handset and make a call. Or ask someone to give you a ring.
Alternatively, if you’re not fussed about keeping your phone number and want to switch with a fresh start, text 75075, and you’ll get your Service Termination Authorisation Code (STAC). This ends your contract and leaves you free to switch to a new provider.
Contact numbers to get your PAC code from your network
Text to switch isn’t for everyone. So if you’d rather speak to your provider on the phone, you can always give them a call. We've included a range of options, depending on whether you're ringing from a landline, your mobile phone or from overseas.
You can also get information about switching networks, and Text to Switch, by texting 85075.

Transferring your mobile phone number - myths busted
Still got some queries or concerns about keeping your phone number? We field some of the most frequently asked questions in this section.
Will I lose service?
The porting process is designed to minimise the time you'll be without a service.
After you've supplied your new network with the PAC code, your old number will remain active. That means you'll still receive calls and texts.
When the number transfer is actually being done, however, your service may go down for a very short time.
When that happens, it should simply be a case of turning off and restarting your handset for full service to return.
Can I transfer a disconnected number?
You cannot transfer disconnected numbers, so do not cancel your existing contract if you wish to port your mobile number.
What happens if my PAC code expires?
In the event that you don't get around to using your PAC code within the 30-day deadline for usage, there's nothing to worry about.
But you will have to contact the network you're leaving to request another PAC code, which you can then use to transfer your number.
How do I transfer my apps, music and games to my new phone?
If you've read the walkthrough above, you'll now know what you've got to do to port your existing number to the network you're joining.
But, of course, when buying a new phone, you're probably going to transfer all your apps, games, movies, music and settings from your old phone too.
That'll mean making a backup of your current phone, and then setting up your new phone using the backup.
To help you, we talk you through the process with our one-stop guides:
Backing up data from an iPhone
Backing up data from an Android phone
How do I transfer my contacts to my new phone?
Inputting hundreds of contact details into a new phone is no one's idea of fun.
To make sure that's not a plight that affects you, it's critical that you back up your contacts that are on your old SIM before you start using your new one.
The first step is to check whether your contacts are saved on your SIM or on your phone.
The surefire way to do this is to simply take your SIM out. If you can still see your contacts, it means they're saved on your phone. Can't see them? That means they're on the SIM.
Assuming they're saved on the phone that you'll no longer be using, you'll need to back them up. We'd recommend using a cloud storage service. Or, if you've got an Android phone , you might be able to use a microSD card.
In the event that they're stored on the phone and you're keeping your old phone and just switching to a new SIM only deal on a new network, you don't need to do anything. Simply input the new SIM in your phone and your contacts will be there.
If they're stored on your SIM, you'll need to transfer them so they're stored on your phone.
This is easy enough to do. Just head to the settings section of your handset and you should find an option to 'copy contacts' or 'import contacts'.
I've heard I can request my PAC code by text message. Is that correct?
It is. As we mentioned earlier, as of 1st July 2019, you can request your PAC code just by sending a text message to 65075.
The telecoms regulator has introduced the 'Text to Switch' system with the intention of streamlining the switching process.
The key advantage is that you'll no longer have to phone your provider and speak to a sales rep from the network you're leaving, whose job it is to persuade you to stay.

Porting your mobile number when buying online
If you are buying your new mobile online, you should still be able to port your mobile number using the following simple steps:
Request your PAC code from your existing network and make a note of it.
Select a mobile handset and network tariff combination that suits you and order online.
You will be sent your phone once you have passed any necessary credit checks.
Get connected by following the instructions that come with your new mobile.
Once connected, you will have a temporary mobile number.
Contact your new network or service provider quoting your temporary number, the number you wish to Port and the PAC provided by your old network.
Your existing number will then be transferred within a few working days, sometimes even the next working day.
"I've used uswitch twice to renew BT broadband and internet and twice to renew my phone contract and extremely happy on all 4 occasions. "The mobile renew on both occasions I've placed my order. From placing my order to changing networks and collecting my phone has been less than 24 hours and again it's been cheaper for the exact same service offered from Three and Vodafone do themselves. Highly recommend never had a problem and it's very quick, cheaper and hassle free." Trustpilot review .

Create a form in Word that users can complete or print
In Word, you can create a form that others can fill out and save or print. To do this, you will start with baseline content in a document, potentially via a form template. Then you can add content controls for elements such as check boxes, text boxes, date pickers, and drop-down lists. Optionally, these content controls can be linked to database information. Following are the recommended action steps in sequence.
Show the Developer tab
In Word, be sure you have the Developer tab displayed in the ribbon. (See how here: Show the developer tab .)
Open a template or a blank document on which to base the form
You can start with a template or just start from scratch with a blank document.
Start with a form template
Go to File > New .
In the Search for online templates field, type Forms or the kind of form you want. Then press Enter .
In the displayed results, right-click any item, then select Create.
Start with a blank document
Select Blank document .
Add content to the form
Go to the Developer tab Controls section where you can choose controls to add to your document or form. Hover over any icon therein to see what control type it represents. The various control types are described below. You can set properties on a control once it has been inserted.
To delete a content control, right-click it, then select Remove content control in the pop-up menu.
Note: You can print a form that was created via content controls. However, the boxes around the content controls will not print.
Insert a text control
The rich text content control enables users to format text (e.g., bold, italic) and type multiple paragraphs. To limit these capabilities, use the plain text content control .
Click or tap where you want to insert the control.
To learn about setting specific properties on these controls, see Set or change properties for content controls .
Insert a picture control
A picture control is most often used for templates, but you can also add a picture control to a form.
Insert a building block control
Use a building block control when you want users to choose a specific block of text. These are helpful when you need to add different boilerplate text depending on the document's specific purpose. You can create rich text content controls for each version of the boilerplate text, and then use a building block control as the container for the rich text content controls.
Select Developer and content controls for the building block.
Insert a combo box or a drop-down list
In a combo box, users can select from a list of choices that you provide or they can type in their own information. In a drop-down list, users can only select from the list of choices.
Select the content control, and then select Properties .
To create a list of choices, select Add under Drop-Down List Properties .
Type a choice in Display Name , such as Yes , No , or Maybe .
Repeat this step until all of the choices are in the drop-down list.
Fill in any other properties that you want.
Note: If you select the Contents cannot be edited check box, users won’t be able to click a choice.
Insert a date picker
Click or tap where you want to insert the date picker control.
Insert a check box
Click or tap where you want to insert the check box control.
Use the legacy form controls
Legacy form controls are for compatibility with older versions of Word and consist of legacy form and Active X controls.
Click or tap where you want to insert a legacy control.
Select the Legacy Form control or Active X Control that you want to include.
Set or change properties for content controls
Each content control has properties that you can set or change. For example, the Date Picker control offers options for the format you want to use to display the date.
Select the content control that you want to change.
Go to Developer > Properties .
Change the properties that you want.
Add protection to a form
If you want to limit how much others can edit or format a form, use the Restrict Editing command:
Open the form that you want to lock or protect.
Select Developer > Restrict Editing .
After selecting restrictions, select Yes, Start Enforcing Protection .
Advanced Tip:
If you want to protect only parts of the document, separate the document into sections and only protect the sections you want.
To do this, choose Select Sections in the Restrict Editing panel. For more info on sections, see Insert a section break .
If the developer tab isn't displayed in the ribbon, see Show the Developer tab .
Open a template or use a blank document
To create a form in Word that others can fill out, start with a template or document and add content controls. Content controls include things like check boxes, text boxes, and drop-down lists. If you’re familiar with databases, these content controls can even be linked to data.
Go to File > New from Template .
In Search, type form .
Double-click the template you want to use.
Select File > Save As , and pick a location to save the form.
In Save As , type a file name and then select Save .
Start with a blank document
