Pre-primer sight word sentences
I’ve already designed several different pre-primer sight word worksheets for your little readers .
Now it’s time to start reading sentences.
The words used in this printable book are all from the Dolch pre-primer list accompanied by pictures. Children will read the sentences while adding the picture words where appropriate.
For instance, the “sun” is not one of the Dolch sight words. So I used a picture of the sun to make a sentence.
This is fun and engaging for young children. They can also color the pictures to make the book their own.
And for more advanced readers, you can even try these reading sentences for kindergarten or my beginning reader booklets for free ! If you have a gifted child or a really advanced reader at home, these will be fun to try, too!

I’ve just found this website and it is an absolute lifesaver for an English tutor just starting out. Thank you so much for putting together such a wonderful resource!

Sooo it’s really fun but I only have a iPad and I can’t play it! Please make it to that we can play it on ALL ELECTRONICS!! Thanks! Love Rebecca flower (the most beautiful girl in the whole world!) 🙂
Play what? I think it should work on an iPad. Let me know if it doesn’t.
Thank you so much for sharing these materials. I love that your have editable versions so that I can make changes or templates for scaffolded notes for my students without having to start from scratch. Huge time saver that helps me provide more effective lessons and continued practice.
One thing, I’m sure I saw something a while back about how to make donations, but I can’t seem to find it again… Couldn’t donate what it’s worth, but I’d love to contribute something.
Thank you for thinking of me, but this site is supported by ads. Thank you for visiting!

I want to try again
Hello, My son just started your writing assignments workshop. He is in 6th grade and so far he likes it a lot. I love it!!! I am wondering if you provide any examples or various answers for the writing workshop. Thank you! Al
Yeah, I prefer to keep the writing stuff open-ended, but if you ever need some feedback, I can offer you some.
Mr. Morton, thank you for your work on these pages! I would like to make a suggestion on the understanding syntax – sentence types PP. On the “simple sentences” slide, your current wording says “simple sentences have just one clause” whereas it should indicate one INDEPENDENT clause.

its such an amazing site that proved extremely resourceful it solved all my issues of finding passages, constructing a question in fact a variety of passages that are interesting yet challenging thanks.

Your worksheets are just the best. I use them here in Nigeria.
Tonda Farrior
My students are completing the assignments online and emailing them to me. However, I am not receiving the emails. Can you help?
Usually, this problem is caused by the IT department blocking emails from my server. You can ask them to whitelist ereadingworksheets.com. I think it’s easier for most people just to bypass them with a personal email address, like a gmail account. Try having your students send the results to a personal email address and see if it works any better.
Best wishes!
Alysha Sudduth
I have a student who was doing work on the Parts of Speech app. I can provide specific information. He needs his progress scores from his account, but his internet will not let him log into the account he was using. Can you help access his work?
All data for that application is stored locally, in the browser window. If using a different machine, or even a different browser, the data will not be available.

Mr.Morton, STOP MAKING MORE WORKSHEETS!

so I did stuff… I do hate the way that the writer in the trampoline article stated that you shouldn’t teach your self how to flip with out gymnastics/parkour experts monitoring and spotting you. and this is dearly untrue as I taught my self to flip with out a spot. oh and how come there are hundreds maybe even thousands of self taught gymnastics/parkour journeys growing viral on YouTube.
Celeste McKenzie
When my kids try to save it just spins and doesn’t save. If they go to print it does come up with a page with their score but they cannot send it to me. We are working on iPads, BTW.
Have them press the PRINT button and then take a screenshot. That would be a good way to produce a record.
Is there a way to see students’ work and how they scored on an activity?
No, only if they report their scores to you using the email feature or printing.
Hi – how do I send to Google Classroom? And how do kids type on them??? Thanks!
Google Classroom integration is only available on the online worksheets: https://www.ereadingworksheets.com/e-reading-worksheets/online-reading-tests/
You click the black square button with the people on it on the starting slide when you are logged into your classroom account. I could take a screenshot if that explanation is confusing. Students go to the links and complete the assignments within the browser window, typing their responses in the textboxes that appear as they progress. When they are done, they should save all their results and responses. No data is ever stored, so I can’t recover it if they lose it. Then they can mail that PDF to you or use the built in emailing function at the end of the test.
Try one out and see if that makes sense: https://www.ereadingworksheets.com/reading-comprehension-worksheets/google/

I used an eReading online activity for a virtual Friday assignment and told the students to email me their results afterward. In the past I had gotten a cool email with a large grade on it but this time, I got nothing…NO emails despite a bunch of kids in google classroom showing that they had turned it in. Why did I get no emails this time? Also, above in your comment you said the students have to save their responses. Where do they save them? HOW do they save them for me to see their scores?
The most common reason why people do not receive the emails is because they are using school address with restrictions. In other words, the IT department is stopping you from getting emails from my server.
One way to solve this problem is to ask the IT people to whitelist emails from ereadingworksheets.com. This will allow you to receive the emails. The other work around is to have your students send their results to a personal email account (such as Gmail) that your IT department does not control. Then there will be no restrictions.
As for saving their results, at the end of each activity there are buttons. One is a letter (used for email). Another is a disk (used for saving). A third is a printer (used for printing). I recommend that they either save the PDF to their computers using the SAVE button or print their results and store the print out. Either works I guess.

I really love your works here. Thanks for this wonderful site. I am a mother and at the same time an educator. God bless you

I wanted to let you know my 7th graders are getting fiercely competitive about Poetry Cat. Today I am introducing them to Context Clue Climber!
Next week we tackle non-fiction text structure, and I’ll assign each kid one of your many, many, many text structure worksheet passages to create a graphic organizer/visualization for. We put them up and the walls look great and have TONs of interesting information!
Thank you so much for being such a reliable and interesting source for middle schoolers!
Awesome. I’m glad that my work has been helpful for you and your students. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

It’s ridiculous how great this site is. I can’t believe you do this! Amazing!
Vinita Rathi
Feeling very lucky to have stumbled on this resource. Fantastic worksheets. I second Mr.Morton.
I love this resource. When we as professionals are asked to do ridiculous things that are beyond our capabilities in the classroom by our administrative staff, this website is helpful!
They love doing that, don’t they? Thanks for visiting!
Absolutely agree with the utility of this website, especially with respect to preparing summer school curriculum with very little prior warning as a novice teacher.
Thanks Mr. Morton!

18 Consonant Blends Sentences with Free Worksheets
This post may contain affiliate links. Please see our disclosure policy.

Get 18 decodable sentences organized by S-blends, L-blends, and R-blends for focused phonics practice. Included are 3 FREE printable read-and-match PDF worksheets, each with 6 decodable sentences and matching pictures.

Table of Contents
Initial Consonant Blends
Initial consonant blends are sometimes called beginning blends. They come at the beginning of a word and include two or more consonants next to one another, with no vowels between.
With consonant blends, you will hear each consonant sound, blended together quickly. Use an anchor chart for examples to reference when explaining this concept.
📑 Blends Sentences
All 18 consonant blends sentences below are decodable, and most of the words with blends include initial consonant blends.
There are a few ending blends for practice, too, because it’s important that students recognize blends at the beginning and end of words.
The sentences also include words with short vowels, digraphs , and high-frequency words .
S Blends Sentences
- Do not st ep on the sm all sl ug!
- The s l ick sk unk sl ipped out of the trap.
- Mom said to st op jumping and be st ill.
- St an had a fi st full of sn acks.
- The sl ed sl id down the hill fa st .
- Sn ip the bees ne st out of the tree without getting st ung.
L Blends Sentences
- Gl en left his fl ip- fl op on the bl ack top.
- Bl anch fl icked the bl ack gl ob.
- Fl o did not bl ink when she hit the gl ass with a bat.
- Don’t sl ip on the sl ick path.
- The pl ant was fl at, not pl ump.
- He had a cl ash and fl ed from Fred.
R Blends Sentences
- Tr ish dr ove on the gr ass with her tr uck.
- Fr ed fell out of his cr ib with a cr ash.
- The fr og hid under br icks.
- Br et and Br ad find a big cr ab.
- Do not fr et and dr op the tr ash.

Using the Worksheets
- The S blends worksheet features words with blends that begin with s: sc, sl, st, sp, sm, sn, sw.
- The L blends worksheet features words with l as the second letter in the blend: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl.
- The R blends worksheets feature words with r as the second consonant in the blend: br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr.
These worksheets can be used independently or for small group instruction. Students should always read the sentences first and then find the matching pictures to confirm meaning.
We suggest beginning this activity by folding the pictures under so that only the sentences are visible. After the first reading, kids can then use the pictures to confirm what the words tell them.
🤷♀️ If they can’t find a picture that matches the sentence, then students should re-read the sentences. The pictures are meant to support the sentences, not the other way around!
If the worksheets are given as independent work, then the pictures make it very easy to check to see if the children read the sentences for meaning.
If the pictures match, then you’ll know that students read the sentences with accuracy. Comprehension is, of course, the whole point of reading!
The only things your students will need to complete this consonant blend activity are scissors and glue.
If you can’t print in color, then allow students to color the small pictures. In that case, you’ll also need crayons or colored pencils.
Tips & Info
- These worksheets are great for 1st-grade students who are learning to read consonant blends.
- Extend the activity further and have kids search for words within the sentences that include s blends, r blends, and l blends. Kids can highlight them on the worksheet, and then copy them into a chart in their notebook.
- Allow kids to re-read the sentences for fluency practice.
More Decodable Sentences!
Get 62 pages of decodable sentences practice to use with your students during your structured literacy lessons! They help students apply knowledge of phonics skills to reading words within context to support comprehension.
Whatever specific phonics skills you’re working on, this one resource can support the needs of all of your students!

20 Free Building Sentences Worksheets
Finding the right Building Sentences worksheets for your kids doesn’t have to be difficult. Today, I’m going to share nearly 30 themed sentence building worksheets great for young learners.
Throughout the post, you will find the important skills learned, how to do the building sentences worksheets, a list of themed worksheets, and a freebie. Yes, it’s true. At the bottom of the post, you will find a section to try out a complete set of 20 Building Sentences worksheets for free. This is a great way to help your kids practice sentence building.

Skills Covered in Sentence Building Activities
There are many sentence building activities that help kids, but I’m going to focus on the Building Sentences I created to share with parents and teachers.
When kids complete Little Learning Corner’s Building Sentences, they cut and paste word tiles to build, write, and illustrate basic sentences.

Having a solid understanding of concepts of print is one of the building blocks for strong readers. I will link a post at the end to better explain concepts of print. For now, know that concepts of print covers directionality, knowing words are separated by spaces, sentence types, and much more.
A variety of skills, such as the ones below, are covered:
- Concepts of print
- Fine motor skills
- Building complete sentences
- Sentence writing
- Sight Words
- Illustrating to represent print
- Parts of Speech: punctuation
- Reading comprehension
As you can see, there isn’t just one important skill being covered with these sentence worksheets. Now, let’s take a look at how kids, on multiple reading levels, complete Building Sentences worksheets.
How to do Building Sentences Worksheets
Instead of a typical kindergarten worksheet, these activities engage the kids on multiple levels. There are 2 levels with every Building Sentences resource mentioned below.
I will further explain each level in a moment. First, here’s a look at each step the kids will complete with the pdf worksheet.
- Cut and paste word tiles
- Build the sentence in the correct order
- Write the sentence
- Draw a picture to match the sentence
On level 1 worksheets, the sentence is printed at the top . This is for emergent readers to decode and read on their own. Then, they use the word tiles to build the sentence just as it’s shown above the “build” space.
Having the sentence at the top is a visual reference for kids who cannot form their own sentences when given a group of words.
The focus on this level is building concepts of print, writing sentences on a ruled line, and using early reading skills.

The level 2 worksheets still provide practice with building simple sentences, but do not have the sentence printed for reference . In other words, the kids use their own ideas to form what they believe are the correct sentences.
Typically, I find level 2 worksheets to work best with first grade students, or kindergartners that need a challenge.
Sometimes, the kids will discover multiple ways to construct a sentence. As they are building, and trying to make sense of the group of words, they often produce a whole new sentence.
